Chapter 389: Pyramid Head Makes His Entrance

Not only was it visually offensive, it was also painfully cringe-inducing.

Despite this, York could sense the strength of this somewhat filthy monster.

The monster was naked, hanging upside down in a twisted position, leaving a trail of decay wherever it passed.

Blood vessels appeared incessantly, creeping up its arms.

Suddenly, York tilted his head, his voice unheard, as a thin wire abruptly appeared straight next to his head.

Then, with a 'puff', it sounded by his ear.

It turned out that the hanging monster had suddenly attacked while crawling, its wire wrapped around its body moving faster than sound, aiming straight for York.

Hence, there was this bizarre sensation of an attack moving faster than sound, indicating the speed of the wire was comparable to the speed of sound.

"Speed's pretty fast."

York glanced at the wire next to his head and muttered to himself, then slowly walked towards the approaching upside-down monster.

The next second, wires appeared from everywhere—above, in front, to the left, and to the right.

With their speed matching that of sound, a single wire could penetrate steel, let alone human flesh.

However, when these wires reached about half a meter from York, they struck an invisible wall and bent outwards, twisting in the air like snakes.

Puff puff puff puff!

It was only at this moment that the sound finally caught up, the density forming a true symphony.

Hiss!

The upside-down monster saw its attack easily blocked by York, and its dark pupils flashed with anger.

The blood vessels that had spread across the arena burst at this moment, and countless bugs trapped inside suddenly came to life, crawling out of the burst holes in droves.

Given their numbers, the sight was dense enough to make someone with trypophobia faint.

This was completely ignored by York, who stepped forward without any expression.

But from the holes in the blood vessels, bugs with sharp teeth burst into flames, regardless of their number, all igniting on the spot.

This caused a popping sound.

The power of controlling magical elements was perfectly demonstrated at this moment.

Every space was filled with magical elements drifting about; the fiery red fire elements combined into the perfect skill for clearing bugs.

Smoke began to envelop the entire arena.

York used telekinesis to wave away the smoke obscuring his vision.

He also blocked the thousands, tens of thousands of thin wires that were still stabbing at him.

This was the first time he used two abilities simultaneously, and it seemed to be working quite well.

The upside-down monster continued to roar, but could do nothing more.

Even the blood vessels beginning to spread under York's feet were retreating, avoiding his steps and the pristine footprints within them.

Until York, holding little Sharon in one arm, came face to face with the upside-down monster, the entire arena fell silent, entering a state akin to time stopping.

Of course, to be precise, this was the result of York using his telekinesis and mental strength.

While everything appeared to stop, time itself was actually unaffected and continued to flow.

Not just time, but the upside-down monster itself, including the blood vessels and the iron wires, still allowed their microscopic particles to flow freely within the confines of their forms.

Facing a still monster whose eyes couldn't even move, York still had some insights.

Once he could control the microscopic world, perhaps then the true cessation of time would be achieved.

This involved the concept of Planck time and the relevant particles.

Lastly, after giving the upside-down monster one final look, York's right hand materialized a glowing white knight's sword.

In essence, the power of sanctity could transform into anything, but he had learned knightly skills in the past and was familiar with the type of knight's sword that could be wielded with either one hand or two.

It wasn't for any specific reason, just that it was practical and aesthetically pleasing.

That's why he had the craftsmen at the church make him two knight's swords.

A jumble of thoughts passed through his mind as York, supporting little Sharon with his left hand, gripped the handle of the knight's sword with his right hand and slowly plunged it into the ground towards the upside-down monster.

Visible to the naked eye, wherever the tip of the sword reached, the entire arena turned white, and darkness retreated.

Until the sword's tip pierced the ground, the completely immobile upside-down monster had already turned to ash.

Along with it, countless iron wires hanging in the air and blood vessels around it.

They turned to ash, floated upward, and disappeared without a trace.

The arena returned to its original state, made up entirely of reddish-brown rooms.

"It seems to have used up quite a bit," York remarked, looking at his remaining half values of mental/sacred power and magical energy, thinking to himself.

"However, it's still within the estimated range."

York pondered for a moment, then continued forward.

Like clearing a game level, no need to deliberately head in any direction; as long as he kept moving forward, the old door would timely appear in front of him.

Facing the door that appeared before him, York maintained his usual approach—using telekinesis to forcibly break open the door and enter the next level.

This time, the environment that appeared before his eyes had somewhat improved.

A plaza constructed of steel unfolded before him, enveloping the vast reddish-brown plaza like a birdcage.

What caught York's attention was the monster standing in the middle of the plaza.

It was at least three meters tall.

Importantly, this monster took on a female humanoid form, holding a blood-stained baseball bat that matched its height. It wore tattered clothes with a sheer miniskirt on the lower body, its face grotesquely twisted with a high forehead, and the right side of its face shifted up to the forehead, displaying no facial features, only twisted skin.

Moreover, its skin was pale with blotchy bloodstains, and a large chunk had been gouged from its abdomen, exposing a grisly mess of flesh within.

"Roar!"

Just as York continued to observe, something seemed to trigger a waking mechanism.

The previously slumbering female monster suddenly woke and let out an ear-splitting roar.

The roar turned into a sound wave strong enough to shatter a human body.

For Sharon's sake, York had to intensify his efforts to block this sonic attack.

However, having done that, York's eyes revealed a hint of interest.

Because the information revealed by this monster suggested it was of the close-combat type.

Bang!

The female monster moved slightly, and just touching the ground with its giant baseball bat easily smashed a deep pit about one or two meters wide.

"Good, saves me some effort," York said with a slight smile, interest turning into a hint of combativeness in his eyes.

He had been a close-combat fanatic in the past, which is why he had turned over the church's order of temple knights.

Only later, as demons frequently possessed him, combined with the use of firearms and magic, had he put away his former fighting style.

York stretched out his hand, and a white hilt appeared automatically in his grasp, extending upwards to form a cross-guard and a long blade.

A knight's greatsword, about one and a half meters long, appeared out of thin air and was firmly held by York.

York swung the greatsword single-handedly, creating a dull sound of cutting through the air.

He looked towards the female monster, standing still in front of him and said calmly with a smile, "Come on."

The female monster, several times York's size, responded immediately, charging at him with incredible speed that did not match its bulky form.

As it moved, it caused a huge uproar, bellowing loudly and swinging its giant baseball bat fiercely at York.

The force of the swing was like an explosion.

York's smile remained unchanged, raising the knight's greatsword in his right hand to meet the trajectory of the swinging bat.

Boom!

The greatsword and baseball bat collided, unleashing a powerful shockwave that spread throughout the vast plaza, shattering layers of the steel cage.

The ground where York and the female monster stood also exploded into a pit.

"Haven't you eaten?" York looked at the female monster, which seemed somewhat dazed and lacked further action, and chuckled.

"Is that all the strength you have?"

At this moment, besides his physical strength, he had not used any abilities, just to conserve his energy.

Roar!

The female monster roared even louder, continuing to swing the baseball bat, determined to kill the little 'ant' before it.

Boom, boom, boom, boom!

The sounds of explosions continued to erupt across the large plaza like bomb blasts.

After some time, the steel cage constructed of iron had lost its previous form, collapsing into the now deeply pitted ground.

The arena returned to a deathly calm.

"Nice fight," York said sincerely as he looked at the female monster lying in the pit with only its head remaining.

"You did well."

The monster indeed specialized in close combat, with each strike packing at least several tens of tons of force. When enraged, its skin turning blood red, the monster's strength surged to several hundred tons.

Its speed and power combined meant that each of its attacks was like a violent storm, making it a very powerful adversary.

Moreover, it had a very fast healing rate, which was formidable.

Every time his blade struck its body, the monster would regenerate almost instantly.

Reluctantly, he had to increase the dose of sacred power to stop its regenerative ability, forcefully reducing the monster to this state.

Because the monster's regenerative ability wasn't due to its flesh but was powered by the dark energy within it, like the previous monsters, each possessing corresponding abilities linked to their dark energy.

The terrifying part was, even now, with only a head remaining, the monster was still alive. Its neck was still generating dark energy, which tangled with the residual holy power clinging to it.

"If possible, I'd love to fight you until we're both spent," York said as he lifted the knight's greatsword, somewhat apologetically.

"But my power has already returned to its peak state, so I'm pressed for time."

As York's apologetic voice fell, he swung his blade over a thousand times in an instant, his strikes reducing the head to dust.

Having done this, York threw away the knight's greatsword, letting it burst into fragments that scattered and fluttered, then fanned the air towards the trying-to-reconnect flesh pieces.

Holy power surged forth, the burst of holy light instantly turning these flesh remnants to ash, disappearing completely.

"It's over."

With the female monster's existence confirmed as erased, York exhaled lightly and continued forward, holding little Sharon.

The environment also changed at this moment.

On the way, York checked on Sharon's condition.

Realizing she had fallen asleep unknowingly, he felt relieved and focused on progressing through the levels, defeating monster after monster, clearing one level after another.

He encountered very peculiar monsters, one of which he referred to as the two-headed monster.

Its form resembled the upper half of a human, but the head was composed of two baby faces pressed together, eyes squinted, skin pale, dressed in a filthy robe that seemed feather-like. Two large hands emerged from the robe, serving as legs.

These encounters were sanity-draining.

He also encountered even stranger monsters, but at this moment, they were not at the forefront of York's mind, naturally forgotten as he looked back.

Now, York raised an eyebrow slightly as he faced the monster before him.

Because the monster in front of him was one he was familiar with.

It was a monster with a bit of fame among many in the monster world, the one referred to by netizens in his previous life as Pyramid Head had finally appeared.

Standing about three meters tall, its upper body bare, displaying muscles as solid as rock, its lower half wore a butcher-like apron, and it held a huge long sword, as tall as itself. Most iconic was the large triangular metal box covering its head.

It looked no different from its portrayal in the movies, but here, Pyramid Head was surrounded by a very noticeable dark aura, giving off a compelling sense of oppression that clearly indicated its extreme brutality.

"Truly imposing," York remarked, his eyes sparkling as if he had discovered a treasure upon seeing the familiar monster.

Roar!

Unfortunately, Pyramid Head responded with a roar upon waking.

Wave after wave of sound, emanating from it, overturned all the insects and miscellaneous objects spread around the area.

This display was even more intense than the previous female monster.

York was no longer sure about the extent of force Pyramid Head could exert with its swings—tens of tons or perhaps a hundred? And whether there might be a second form behind this.

But the situation didn't allow him to ponder much, as a massive wave of dark energy, like a tidal wave, surged towards him.

York thought for a moment and then extended his hand forward.

A massive burst of holy power erupted from his hand, slamming hard against the incoming wave of darkness.

Boom!

The dark wave shattered, but in that instant, a huge figure that seemed to tear through the heavens suddenly emerged from within and appeared above York.

The wind generated by the force, howling instantaneously, exploded in sound.

In York's pupils, a giant sword filled the view.

Somehow, Pyramid Head had appeared above him, both hands wielding the long sword, slashing down at him.

"Heh."

York's expression remained unchanged, simply letting out a light chuckle.

He allowed the sword, carrying a formidable momentum, to come crashing down.

Boom!

The long sword met an obstacle, stopping abruptly half a meter above York, the impact tearing apart the attacking insects around him.

"It seems this level is the essence of Dark Alesia."

York looked at Pyramid Head, who, frustrated by his blocked attack, disappeared and instantly reappeared to his right, continuing to swing the long sword.

"Just killing Pyramid Head might also deplete the remaining dark power within her."

Boom!

Again, the long sword halted at half a meter.

Pyramid Head vanished once more, reappearing in another direction, continuing its slashing, the giant sword whistling through the air with a sonic boom.

Boom!

For a time, Pyramid Head teleported dozens of times, slashing dozens of times, but still unable to break through York's protective barrier.
