Chapter 425: The Structure of the Rift Passage

Although unexpected, Higa Makoto was somewhat moved, instinctively thinking of that dependable figure.

"Sister Erin, are you saying all these were prepared by elder sister for me?" Higa Makoto asked for confirmation.

"Yes," Erin said, smiling at the somewhat moved Higa Makoto.

"The bishop did mention this during a casual conversation. It was indeed prepared specifically for you. Unlike Saint Koto's more forceful approach, he thought you could develop in the direction of using talismans."

Higa Makoto pursed her lips, stepped forward, and looked into the large box, silently pulling out a talisman to feel it.

Indeed, as Sister Erin had said, she could feel the powerful and formidable spiritual energy on the talisman.

Just this fact alone let her know that the talisman was effective and not just a useless or fake one.

"So this is how the Wind Chime Demon Repelling Talisman operates..." Observing the patterns on the talisman and the directions and circuits of the spiritual energy flow, Higa Makoto murmured.

In the island nation, regardless of their number, a true talisman is a treasured asset of a family, generally not passed outside of the family head and direct descendants.

Each talisman's patterns and incantations are unique, so the resulting magical techniques and their effects are also distinct.

The reason why talismans copied from these patterns and incantations turn out to be ineffective is due to the complex spiritual energy circuits involved in a talisman. If the flow of spiritual energy is incorrect, the talisman won't function, effectively preventing others from copying and learning them.

Thus, her surprise at seeing so many lost talismans; coming from the Higa family and having a sister who is a saint, she naturally had access to some talismans, but mostly protective ones and in limited numbers.

This wasn't just about a single family but included the entire island nation, meaning the few talismans she had represented a significant portion of the country's total.

Nowadays, talismans do not hold the same status as before and are not the main force in spirit driving; instead, in a world dominated by spells, they have become somewhat redundant.

"How about it, can they be used?" Erin looked at the entranced Higa Makoto, asking gently.

Higa Makoto suddenly came back to her senses and looked at Sister Erin, taking a deep breath before nodding.

"They can be used, they already have a lot of spiritual energy stored in them."

"Indeed." Erin said calmly.

"I knew the bishop wouldn't give me this box for no reason. I think he might have foreseen today."

Higa Makoto was silent for a moment, then pursed her lips and asked, "Sister Erin, can I ask you something?"

Erin raised an eyebrow: "Hmm? What is it."

"How did elder sister know so many talismans?" Higa Makoto looked at the box in front of her, "Many of these talismans have been lost."

"Have you forgotten who we are?" Erin smiled.

With that, Higa Makoto understood everything. If any organization would know so much about talismans, it would have to be the Church, because the Church's history has been continuous, spanning thousands of years. Higa Makoto slapped her forehead.

"That's true, I asked something unnecessary." Higa Makoto said relaxedly.

"After all, elder sister is the bishop of the Church. If she wanted to collect, indeed, she could collect so many talismans."

Erin nodded, looking towards the side path.

A figure emerged from the darkness: John Wick, carrying a large bag and a tactical belt filled with magazines and handguns, even a rifle slung over his other shoulder.

But what Erin didn't expect was another figure appearing behind John Wick.

It was Hilly, who had been engrossed in his research, and he was carrying a firearm that looked very heavy.

With her current vision, that was a heavy machine gun, the gun shimmering with a chilling gleam.

This left Erin somewhat speechless, glancing at Higa Makoto, who stood dumbfounded.

"Hilly, aren't you preparing a bit too much?" Erin looked at Hilly.

"If I'm not mistaken, the gun in your hands is probably an M2 Browning heavy machine gun, right?"

"The bishop said never to fight an unprepared battle," John Wick said calmly.

Knowing what they were going to do, Hilly grinned, patting the gun in his hands.

"Erin, with all these weapons I've modified, even the demon from before wouldn't be able to get near us."

Erin sighed, "But we are not fighting a demon this time, and Hilly, I hope you can stay in the church to prevent evil spirits from entering."

Hilly paused, ultimately conceding under Erin's gaze, shrugging.

"

Alright, you're in charge while the bishop is away."

Saying this, Hilly handed the heavy weapon to John Wick.

"John, it's yours now."

John Wick nodded, embracing the hefty weapon.

Hilly casually patted John Wick's shoulder.

Seeing this, Erin turned to Higa Makoto who had just snapped back to reality.

"Let's start preparing as well."

Higa Makoto hurriedly responded, "Ah, yes."

Soon, the contents of the box were fully distributed.

Most of the talismans and some holy water bottles were carried by Higa Makoto, while Erin carried a smaller number of talismans and the majority of the holy water bottles.

Ultimately, both were equipped with a backpack that seemed quite large for their frames.

Erin placed a Bible into her belt at her waist, took a deep breath, then looked at Higa Makoto and John Wick, nodding.

"We can go and take a look now, but we need to wait for Saint Koto."

The two nodded silently.

But just then, Higa Makoto felt her phone vibrate, she took it out and whispered after looking at it.

"Elder sister is almost here."

Erin calmly said, "Good, let's go out and wait."

Saying that, she nodded to Hilly, who was staying to guard the church, and headed towards the front door.

John Wick did the same, and Higa Makoto bowed slightly before quickly following Erin and the others.

Arriving at the front yard.

They could see a convoy from a distance.

Seeing this scene and thinking of her stern elder sister, Higa Makoto felt a bit nervous.

"Sister Erin, elder sister definitely won't let me follow," she whispered to Erin, her voice faltering.

"Can you speak for me?"

Erin looked towards the approaching convoy.

"Of course, after all, it's a valuable experience for you."

Hearing this, Higa Makoto felt encouraged, but when the convoy slowly drove up to them, and she saw the stern Higa Koto step out of the first car, she instinctively hid behind Erin.

"This girl"

Higa Koto noticed Higa Makoto hiding behind Sister Erin, saw her carrying that backpack, her eyebrows slightly furrowed, but she didn't immediately scold her sister upon getting out of the car; instead, she first greeted Erin.

"Sister Erin, thank you for offering your help."

"Saint Koto, there's no need for formalities, this is what I should do."

Erin nodded and looked at the clergymen getting out of the cars: "Have you made all the arrangements?"

During their prior communication, everything had been agreed upon.

"Yes," Higa Koto said earnestly. "The residents of that apartment complex have been completely evacuated."

"If that's the case, then we are also prepared," Erin replied.

Higa Koto glanced at John Wick, fully armed, and her mind flashed back to the fully armed York from that time; modern weaponry on John Wick didn't seem strange to her.

"Hmm, please get in the car with me."

Erin nodded and, following Higa Koto's gesture, walked towards the car in front.

Then there was Higa Makoto, who was silent, trying to lower her presence as much as possible. Before she could catch up with Erin's steps, her arm was seized by her elder sister.

"Makoto! Where do you think you're going?"

Facing her elder sister's icy gaze and the strength gripping her arm, Higa Makoto quickly looked towards Erin walking ahead.

"Sister Erin!" she called out.

"Saint Koto, Makoto is actually one of us," Erin turned back and smiled.

"Bishop York said that under permissible conditions, Makoto can follow."

"Is that Nissan's word?" Higa Koto's grip loosened slightly, though she did not let go of her sister's hand.

"Yes," Erin said. "He hopes that one day, Makoto can be of help to you."

"Yes! Elder sister!" Higa Makoto said. "I want to help you! I am your sister, and I can feel your weakness."

"You are too weak," Higa Koto was unmoved.

As she spoke, her voice trailed off.

Because Higa Makoto had, at some point, drawn a talisman that, to her perception, held immense power, the robust spiritual energy flowing through it surprised her.

"What is this?"

"A Phoenix Driving Evil Charm, summoning the fiery power of the phoenix god to burn all evil spirits to ashes, it's been lost."

Hearing her sister's tone soften, Higa Makoto said, "This was prepared by elder sister for me, she knew I was studying talismans, so she prepared many for me, and these talismans are already infused with enough spiritual energy to unleash their full power without using any of my own."

Saying this, Higa Makoto

earnestly continued, "Elder sister, we are sisters, we have a psychic connection, you can't hide your condition from me! I've grown up, and I want to help you! I don't want to see you so tired anymore, hiding in your room nursing wounds."

Higa Makoto looked at her sister's expressionless face, took a deep breath, "Don't think I don't know, you've been planning to sacrifice your own lifespan!"

With these words, aside from a thoughtful Erin and an apparently unreactive John Wick, everyone was shocked.

The space was silent for a moment; Higa Koto looked at her resolute sister and couldn't help but sigh, her icy facade breaking at that instant. She looked at Erin.

During their eye contact, Erin nodded.

"You've grown up, I can't control you anymore, follow Sister Erin, and don't go anywhere else."

Higa Koto looked at her sister, took the Phoenix Driving Evil Charm from her hand, and spoke each word seriously, then let go of her hand and walked towards the car by herself.

Higa Makoto breathed a sigh of relief, knowing too well what her seemingly cold sister was really like.

Thinking this, Higa Makoto then looked towards Sister Erin.

"Let's go," Erin said gently.

"Yes!"

Higa Makoto nodded vigorously, following Erin's steps, behind them was fully armed John Wick, but he did not follow Erin and her; instead, he watched them get into the car before turning and walking towards a building next to the church, actually the garage.

Everyone settled in the car, Higa Makoto glanced subconsciously at her sister's eyes, then looked at the departing John Wick.

"Brother John, where is he going?"

Erin explained, "He has his own car."

As these words fell, Higa Koto nodded to the driver.

"Let's go."

"Yes, Saint."

The car began to move slowly under this command.

After giving the instruction, Higa Koto ignored her sister, sitting dutifully in the middle, and turned to Erin.

"Sister Erin, has there been any news from Bishop York?"

Erin sighed, "The bishop has not shown signs of returning yet."

"Is that so." Higa Koto looked at the talisman in her hand again, feeling the very familiar power on it, her expression softening.

She was more familiar with this power than her sister; the energy constantly circulating on the talisman was not their practiced spiritual power but a unique power belonging to Nissan.

"Nissan, thank you," Higa Koto thought internally, probably understanding that Nissan had foreseen all this.

Sitting in the middle, Higa Makoto sat very upright, but her eyes, like black pearls, were restless, finally turning to the left.

She could sense the fluctuations in her sister's heart.

But she saw those icy eyes.

"Cough, cough!"

Higa Makoto couldn't help but cough, pulling her gaze back and sitting up straight, daring not to move further.
