Out Of The City

I listened half heartedly as my mouse continued to lecture Damien on the importance of always having a blanket on hand and that if he wasn't going to appreciate it, she would find another pocket to nap in.

'You know,' I interrupted her with a tired sigh. 'He probably doesn't understand a word that you are saying.'

She stopped in the middle of her tirade and turned to look at me. 'I don't care if he doesn't understand me or not. His wolf damn well should.'

'And if he doesn't?' I asked, a slight smirk on my face.

'Then you will finally be able to use that brain of yours for something useful and create a translator for me. I don't care what it takes, but my mates will understand the words coming out of my mouth.' Her chest rose and fell rapidly as she continued her rant, making sure Damien knew exactly how she was feeling.

But just as she was in the middle of explaining nap time and her needs, the door to Raphael's bedroom burst open without so much as a knock.

Startled, my mouse scurried behind Raphael's ear. She was so fast that when she moved, most people couldn't keep track of her. Gripping onto our mate's ear, she trembled. She was a take no nonsense type of creature when she felt safe and secure, but she was still a mouse at the end of the day.

"Get out," growled Raphael low, causing our small body to vibrate with his words. Just that alone was enough to calm her down.

"No, we need to talk, and we need to talk now," replied the smaller man. He was the same one who led the pack of wolves to the restaurant today. Now it was my turn to get pissed off. Was this some kind of ploy? Get me here only for this kid to rip into me?

Of course, it had completely slipped my mind that I went into the vanilla cupcake's pocket willingly, and he technically had no idea that I was even there until he reached into his pocket and grabbed me.

My mouse tried to soothe me, but I was frozen, needing to see where this was going.

'They are brothers,' groaned my mouse, giving me a sharp bite in my mind. 'It would make sense that they live in the same house. And neither one of them knows that you are the waitress, thanks to that spray you douse us with every morning. This is not a setup, stupid human. I swear, for someone so smart, you are dumber than insulation sometimes.'

I blinked, my rage completely gone. 'Did you just call me dumber than insulation?'

'Well, if the nest fits,' shrugged my mouse, no longer interested in the conversation. She turned her attention back to where the young pup was currently being surrounded by all four of my mates.

"You forget your place, Jamie, and you have been doing it a lot. Should I remind you? Should I show you the reason why I am the alpha and not you?" growled Raphael, and I could feel his wolf coming to the surface.

Right. He had just met me, and we hadn't finished any of the mating bonds. Any unknown man near me would be seen as a threat, even if they were family.

"Whatever," replied the kid, Jamie. Even I could see him rolling his eyes from my place so there was no way for Raphael to miss it. "We need to talk about the fucking waitress."

Well, now he had my undivided attention.

"What about her?" asked Damien, cocking his head to the side.

"She needs to be taught a lesson in respect," grunted the boy, clearly unable to read the room. Damien might not have officially connected me to the waitress, but I have spent a lot of time with him in that body. It made sense that he was protective, even if he didn't know why.

"You want to try that again?" Damien demanded, taking a threatening step toward Jamie.

"It is like she is obsessed with me. Whenever I go into the restaurant—"

"You mean the same restaurant that I have told you on numerous occasions not to go to?" interrupted Raphael, but Jamie just shook his shoulders.

"That's beside the point. Besides, it's not like she ever kicked us out. Like I said, I think she is obsessed with me. She is always staring at me, and she keeps getting my mate's order wrong. It is like she is trying to get me to notice her."

Both my mouse and I were vibrating with Jamie's words, and the only words going through her mind was 'death by a thousand bites'.

That might have been her plan, but there was no way I was letting our shared mouth anywhere near the skin of that wolf. I'd have to bathe in bleach or something just to get clean again.

"You do realize that she hates you, right?" pushed Damien, one of his eyebrows raised. He and I had a conversation where all of them were annoying me so he would know exactly how I felt about the pups.

"I'm telling you, she really doesn't. She is just playing hard to get, trying to get my attention, but it is just pathetic. I would never be interested in a waitress, let alone a human. She is embarrassing herself, upsetting my mate, and I want her out of the city."

Before any of the guys could react, and before I could even pull back my mouse, she had disappeared from behind Raphael's ear and launched herself across the distance between the two brothers and bit Jamie hard on the nose, taking out a chunk of flesh near the bridge.

Jamie screamed and brought his hand up to try and squash me, but my mouse was much too fast for the lumbering beast. As soon as she felt the shift in the wind, she was gone, her attention on the soft curve of his ear.

A loud smacking sound let me know that Jamie had managed to hit himself in the face just as my mouse took out yet another chunk from the top of his ear.

Yup, we were doing this. Death by a thousand bites. Good thing I had a bunch of bleach at home. And a lot of mouthwash.
