Part Two - New World - Chapter [038]

The Hill of Mitrel wasn't a hill, but more like a full-on mountain.

Arslan punched the gas and the bike revved up as he entered into the mountain itself, the gravel road gave out and instead was replaced with grass and dirt. It seemed like a lot of people used the dirt road daily or kept it clean and nice. Meanwhile, not a lot of people went into the mountain itself.

"Hold on tight!" He noted as the ground suddenly became much more inclined. We were on a bike, a bike that hovered over the ground, but still inclines and bikes are not well versed for one another, I should know.

I grabbed onto his waist as much as I could and prayed nothing bad would happen. The mountain was full of bumps twists and turns as the incline became even that much harder,

Arslan did his best to evade trees that were in our way, but the terrain became forest-like and that much harder to navigate.

Then just like that, we came into a clearing. Arslan slowed down and came to a full stop.

My heart was beating a thousand miles per hour, not that I didn't trust him. Just that I didn't know if he was full BMX or what.

City bikes are not made for all terrain and BMX bikes are not made for the city.

We came to a full stop.

I was shaking, and still holding onto his waist. He perched his arms up as he realized, and looked down.

"It's okay - you can let go now, we made it to the halfway point," he spoke. Patting my hands.

I opened my eyes and realized we weren't moving anymore.

I let go.

"Sorry - I wasn't sure if you're bike could handle an incline like that-" I observed. Arslan froze as he was getting off the bike.

"You mean this baby!?" He pointed towards the bike.

I nodded. Still holding onto the bike.

"The Skybreaker was made for all types of terrain!" He said proudly.

"Plus this one got the ZX-6R add-on, it's the best of the line!" He observed like a true fanboy.

I would have to take his word for it.

Arslan turned off the engine and the bike slowly made its way to the ground.

With me still on it, it was easier to get off it now. I wasn't used to bikes being off the ground.

But I was used to bikes at least.

Back home - was all I rode.

I finally looked around, we were inside a flat clearing in the middle of the mountain, and forest, and wildlife surrounded us. It was hard to imagine miasma had taken over this place.

Nature was intact here, once the revving of the engine stopped. I heard birds and the soft shuffle of animals around us. It seemed they looked at us with curiosity, but didn't dare approach us.

This was their habitat and we were invading it.

"So if the Skybreaker can do all-terrain, why are we stopping here?" I asked

Arslan looked up towards the rest of the mountain, suddenly the slope felt like an imposing giant.

"It's going to be real hard to climb that with the two of us - it's hard to climb even for me on the Skybreaker," he murmured.

My vertigo got the better of me, I looked down and we were already a ways off from the ground. The air did feel cleaner, but the clouds had done a great job of keeping me from feeling anything.

I couldn't help but collapse to the ground.

"Hey! You okay!?" he suddenly got worried for me.

"Yeah - sorry - I'm not good with heights," I observed.

He started rubbing my back.

"You should have told me - I was about to jump us to the top with my lighting boots," he said.

"You're lightning boots?" I asked still feeling a little queasy.

He pointed to the yellow boots on his feet.

"These bad boys can do a variety of things, including making us jump thousands of feet in the air," he noted proudly.

"So you would carry me?" I pestered.

"Mhhm-hmm," he remarked with a beautiful smile. Whenever Arslan smiled it was always filled with so much hope.

"But it's okay we can walk there, it's not that hard - you okay with a little bit of cardio?"

Cardio was my middle name.

Suddenly out of the blue, it started raining.

Not just raining, it started pouring.

We found refuge in a small clearing nearby, with a big green leaf and a small cave that was inlined in the rock formation.

We had no choice but to wait out the rain.
