12. Strangers

Yue Yan woke up again that evening but it wasn't dark yet. He drank the cup of water placed on a small table besides the bed with a bowl of porridge by it.

He didn't have an appetite so he did not eat the porridge yet. He was alone in the room. This room was way better than the one he had woken up in when he had first come here.

He doesn't know for how long that he was out so he could not tell how many days it has been since he had transmigrated into this world.

Now that he thinks about it, where is he and where is his family? Who are those people he saw in the room earlier? Why won't anyone tell him anything about the whereabouts of his family?

They seem to avoid answering him whenever he asked and that did not make him feel good at all.

He forced and managed to get up. He wanted to walk around and check his surroundings, maybe Wang Ting and the kids were in one of the rooms.

He may not be their actual father and husband, but they are his family now and his responsibility. He owes it to them and the host body too.

He had felt their love and dedications towards him in the short span of their lives together for only about two days before he had lost consciousness again.

Yan Yue does not remember all that had happened before he lost consciousness. He only remembered up to when he had picked Yuyu up in their room but not anything after that.

Using the wall for support, Yan Yue managed to step out of the room he was staying in and into the compound, but walked on the corridors in order to use the walls for support.

He saw some people that looked like merchants and the others looked like workers. They were busy going about their business and hardly paid him any mind.

He had taken only a few steps when bumped into someone because his focus was on the busy people going to and fro.

He turned and saw that it was the may he had seen earlier that day when he had woken up. The one that claimed that they knew each other.

"Yanyan, you should not be outside when you're this sick. What if you had bumped into something dangerous and hurt yourself again?" Prince Benyou said.

With his left hand on a pillar for support, Yue Yan held the may by the collar.

"Where's my family? Where's Tingting and my children? Why won't any body tell me anything? Huh?"

"Chen Yan?!", a voice shouted and rushed to separate them two, causing Yue Yan to stumble back.

"Are you out of your senses?!", Li Zicheng didn't seem happy with his attitude.

"It's okay. I'm ok.", Benyou assured his friend.

"I don't know who you people are and right now I don't care. Just take me to see my family and I'll be out of your hairs!", Yue Yan said with finality.

"Okay. It's late now so how about we take you to them tomorrow in the morning?" Li Yunfeng who had just joined them together with Xu Bao said.

"And why do I have to wait till tomorrow? It's not even that dark yet. I have to see them to be sure that they're all fine.", Yan said, a little less aggressive as compared to earlier.

"We wanted to tell you when you're better but it seems you do not trust us and I doubt you'd be patient enough to wait till you're better. So I will give you the answer you..." Zicheng gets cut off.

"Brother!", Li Yunfeng shouted at his older may brother.

"What?! If you were to be the one in his situation, tell me, how long did you think you could wait in a unknown place with a bunch of strangers refusing to tell you about where your family is?!", Li Zicheng retorted.

He understood his brother's intention but he also gets why Chen Yan is being apprehensive. And they cannot conrinue keep him in the dark for long. He has to know.

The crown Prince was silently standing beside Xu Bao in the back. He didn't know what he was supposed to do in this situation so he chose to remain silent.

He was hurt by how Yanyan had denied ever knowing him when he had visited him earlier. He has come all the way from the capital to see him but he has received nothing but looks filled with disdain.

It kind of made sense to him that perhaps that might have been the reason he had not reached out to him all those years. He didn't know how he should feel about that.

Finding outhat indeed his beloved had married someone else and they even had children is not something he should be happy about.

Anyway, this was not the time for him to be brooding over his heartaches. It's rather the time for him to support his Yanyan in anyway he can.

His poor friend and lover is about to receive such aggravating news. Prince Benyou didn't have the heart to watch and listen anymore.

He left the group unnoticed and went to one of the private rooms that he usually uses whenever he was able to sneak in here.

"Okay, fine. Let's not talk here. Let us all go inside." Li Yunfeng suggested and the group of four went into a different but larger room to talk.

The other three had realised that the crown Prince had left but right now it was Chen Yan that was of a priority to them.

"This may here found the almost lifeless bodies of you and your moon plus those of your two kids lying on the busy main travelling road." Li Yunfeng said as he pointed to Xu Bao.

The news was surprising to him but he still has to listen till the end anyway. He turned to look at Xu Bao with a small bowed ti show his gratitude.

Xu Bao returned it with a small bow too but he didn't look happy at all, he was rather worried for what was to come next.

"Chen Yan, your family did not make it. They had died before you were brought here. The physicians weren't sure if you would even make it but here you are in less than a day.", Li Zicheng explains to him.
