It Doesn't Have To Be This Way

I blinked as I watched Cullen—no, Fergus —gaze at me with a predatory glint in his eyes. He wasn't even trying to hide it anymore. It was as if he was telling me that he knew... He knew that I was onto him.

But I would not let myself get intimidated.

My hands went to my jogger's pants pocket, clutching the lighter there tightly. I held my breath, anticipating his next action.

But just then, he placed a palm on the wall behind me, and it seemed like the predatory glint in his eyes had disappeared and was replaced with a more 'friendly' one.

"You needed some air?" Fergus chuckled softly, his eyes lingering on my neck for a few seconds before moving to my eyes. "Away from what?"

His hot breath pricked my skin, causing the hair on my neck to stand on end. I gulped, cursing my body for this weird reaction.
