Pawns in the Game

The golden sunlight was shining down on the forest’s different shades of green. Though most of the light fell on the huge trees that spread their branches like a roof over the forest, some of it still managed to pass through layers of leaves and reached the small grasses that grew across the ground. With such little sunlight, the small plants had to lengthen their stems and leaves, fighting one another for the light necessary for their growth. Those that were not able to grow tall enough remained in the shade and eventually withered or were unable to reach their full-grown states. These plants were not different from human beings, fighting and competing to have everything to themselves. The big trees were like powerful mages who were at the top of society. The grasses were like the commonfolk, weak and only received what little benefits were left after the big trees had taken as much as they desired.
