Inaugural Departure

"Captain's Log, Stardate 87074.9

"All construction, preliminary tests, and protocols on the Nexus are complete, and this grand ship is ready to leave dock on her maiden voyage. One last thing to do is the inaugural speech and gala event I am hosting in the Melting Pot."

The Melting Pot was at full occupancy, and the 6 holodecks were also running simultaneous Melting Pot programs, all serving identical food and drink, from all over the galaxy, from all the representative factions and races.

This kind of thing was never really done by captains, but Anzyl wanted to make sure everyone was included.

In the main Melting Pot, in his full dress uniform, Captain Anzyl Praxas took the podium, streaming holographically to the holodecks as well. Every crew member, all 5000 watched in earnest.

"Attention, crew of the USS Nexus. As I stand before you, I'm acutely aware of the diverse tapestry that makes up our ship, a tapestry woven from the threads of countless races, backgrounds, and experiences. Each of you brings a unique perspective, skills, and history to our mission. We are not just a crew; we are a symphony of life, and together, we embark on a journey unlike any other.

Our ship is a beacon of unity, a testament to the strength that arises from our differences. We are not here by chance, but by design, chosen for the richness of our diversity. Today, as we prepare to leave Spacedock, I want to speak to you about the challenges that lie ahead and the power we wield when we stand shoulder to shoulder.

This vessel, the USS Nexus, is a microcosm of the galaxy. We represent the Galactic Alliance, the Federation, the Klingon Empire, the Romulus Republic, and the Dominion. Our mission is to explore, to seek out new life, new civilizations, and to boldly go where none have gone before. But with this noble mission comes the certainty of challenges, of hardships that will test the very core of our unity.

In our travels, we will encounter the unknown, face the unpredictable, and navigate uncharted territories. Our ship is not just a vessel of steel and technology; it is a living testament to the idea that cooperation knows no bounds. As we venture into the great unknown, remember this: the strength of our unity is our greatest asset.

We stand on the precipice of the unexplored, and it's easy to feel trepidation. But let that trepidation transform into determination, for it is in the face of the unknown that we find our true selves. Each one of you is a vital piece of this puzzle, a puzzle that, when complete, forms a picture of resilience, understanding, and collaboration.

Our diversity is not a hindrance; it is our greatest strength. It is a source of inspiration, innovation, and the driving force behind our shared mission. We must recognize the beauty in our differences and, instead of allowing them to divide us, let them bind us together in a harmonious chorus.

There will be moments of doubt, of uncertainty, and perhaps even fear. But in those moments, I urge you to look to your left and right, to the faces of your fellow crew members. We are a family, a family forged not by blood but by a common purpose. Together, we are unstoppable. Together, we will face the challenges that await us.

Remember, each of you has a story, a history that brought you here. Cherish that history, learn from it, and let it guide you as we chart a course into the unknown. We are not just explorers; we are pioneers of unity. Our ship is not just a vessel; it is a testament to the possibility of collaboration and understanding across the stars.

As we depart, let us leave behind the familiar and embrace the unknown with open hearts and open minds. We are the embodiment of cooperation, a living example of what can be achieved when different races and cultures work together. The galaxy is vast, and our potential is limitless.

In the face of adversity, we will stand united. In times of uncertainty, we will find strength in each other. Shoulder to shoulder, we will navigate the cosmos, leaving a legacy that echoes the power of unity. For on this ship, the USS Nexus, we are not just explorers; we are a testament to the triumph of collaboration over adversity.

May the stars guide us, and may our unity light the way into the great unknown. Godspeed, crew of the USS Nexus. Together, we boldly go where none have gone before."

As he concluded those words, the entire ship erupted in applause. Moved by his words, the mixture of faces, skin tones, heights, and voices all found resolve.

Anzyl appeared as a hologram on the Bridge and commanded, "Number 1, clear us for departure."

Neil called off a set of instructions to the departments. "Clear all mooring clamps, withdraw all bridges, initiate engine start. Communications, request permission for departure."

There was a loud rustling of mechanical devices releasing the ship from the mooring's grip.

"All mooring clamps and bridges withdrawn," Keten replied. "We are clear for departure," Heluna added.

"Captain, we are cleared for departure," Neil stated, turning to the Captain.

"Helm. Take us out. Heading, to the stars beyond, let us go to those stars, where no one has gone before," he declared.

"Course laid in, sir," Lusaalli replied.

"Do the Thing," Anzyl said, using his Captain's tagline.

The ship rocked as the massive vessel began to move forward. Emerging from the confines and construction cranes of spacedock, the USS Nexus appeared on its own, striking out, away and far from the spacedock. The behemoth vessel dwarfed the other ships still under construction.

Once it was far enough from the spacedock, the warp nacelles began to hum and glow radiantly. Pulled off into infinity, the ship vanished deep into the endless stars beyond.
