The wave (3)

"Your desires are orders!!"

When I heard Rakahn say these words, a satisfied look took over my face.

"he's so reliable"

I looked away and saw a swarm of creatures rushing towards us.

These strange creatures were humanoid in shape, their green skin and curved canines that protruded from their mouths helped not to confuse him with a chimpanzee given their small sizes.

These primates used rather primitive weapons, they were spears created from cut stones attached to wooden rods or sticks whose ends were heavy and thick.

"It's what we call a club, I think."

With my weapon drawn, I waited until the creatures were closer to attack, their strange howls disrupted my concentration, since I am more sensitive to noise and other vibrations due to my "echolocation" ability, I tended to be distracted and sometimes I felt a little lost when I kept this ability active a little longer.

I quickly poured my mana into my body, maintaining my strengthening skill active, I rushed at the swarm which was already within the range of my saber.

[You killed a monster: a Green Goblin]

[You received an Essence Stone]

The voice of the announcement echoed in my head, I ignored it, I was earlier directing my katana towards the chest of another "goblin" to impale him and then kick him to unblock my weapon in his sternum.

[You killed…]

[You received an Essence Stone…]

I crossed the swarm of creatures, slicing everything in my path, fortunately my weapon was sharp enough to clearly cut the parts where my katana had the misfortune to touch.

Everyone who was unlucky enough to find themselves in my path ended up with their heads cut off, their arms or their legs severed.

Quickly, I rushed towards the middle of the swarm where my goal was.

I was heading towards the one who caused the roar I heard earlier, the one who led this legion of goblins.

The creature looked similar to the goblin but the difference was that it was bigger and stronger, if other goblins could be compared to chimpanzees, the gorilla could be a perfect match for it.

The abomination that had noticed me once again let out a ferocious roar and leapt in my direction, raising its weapon above its head.

"So, you want to fight it too?" I shouted, sprinting backwards to avoid his attack.

His club smashed against the ground, which left cracks on its surface, without waiting I took advantage of the fact that he was still distracted to attack.

In a few seconds the whistling of my saber had left a large gash in his back.

The abomination let out furious moans, its crimson eyes seemed to be on fire with anger.

"It hurts, huh?" I mocked "let me shorten your suffering, come on… just a little bit"

After saying these words, I channeled my mana into my legs while my strengthening skill was still active, almost half of my energy was consumed in the process...

And as I sprinted, propelled forward, I focused on my saber and the place where I wanted to cut.

Tightening my grip on my katana, I quickly closed my distance from him.

[ …]

The hideous abomination only waved his weapon in all directions, his inability to think properly put him at a great disadvantage against an adversary like Cliff.

"It's like fighting a five-year-old child" Cliff had thought, ducking to dodge the club that the hideous creature kept spinning.

As the hideous primate violently swung his attacks, making sure Cliff couldn't get close to him.

But…

Cliff took a brief step back and lunged above him, spinning his body as he cut towards the creature.

In a fraction of a second, the whistle of his saber rang out and took with it the hideous head of the creature.

The announcement whispered in his ear;

[You killed a variant monster: a green hobgoblin]

[You received a Variant Essence Stone]

Cliff opened the abomination's torso and retrieved his loot.

"I'll have to work on my techniques," he thought, glancing at his katana.

Shaking his saber, he got rid of the blue blood of the abominable creature.
