As Ghemae and his group approached the main entrance, the fog thickened around them, wrapping each step in an oppressive atmosphere. Even the sounds of their own movements seemed muffled, amplifying an almost palpable tension.
"It seems these creatures enjoy playing with our nerves," murmured one of the Scourges, a hint of unease in his voice.
Ghemae turned, his sly grin still plastered across his face. "Don't be a coward. This fog can't do anything to us. If that's their only defense, then they're already dead."
He gestured to his comrades, and the first explosions rang out as they unleashed their attacks on the stone structure. The impacts echoed violently, shattering the silence and sending shards of rock flying in all directions.
But to their great surprise, the fortress showed no sign of crumbling. Worse still, shadows began to move within the fog, emerging from nowhere with alarming speed and stealth.
