Kyunghee jumped out in an instant.
She walked over to the dog. At the same time, she could hear Jintae got out of the car and followed her. Kyunghee stopped in front of the small dog. It stared up at her with suspicion and caution, its hind legs taking a tiny step back. It snarled at Kyunghee viciously, like she was the enemy but she wasn't scared. There was only pity and sympathy. For some reason, she emphasized with this abandoned animal.
"Hi, little one," Kyunghee cooed softly with a friendly smile, putting both of her hands up to show she was defenseless against it. "It's alright. I'm not going to hurt you." She slowly squatted down in front of it as she steadily kept eye contact. It was important to maintain good eye contact, to reassure this wounded animal that she meant no harm. It must have understood Kyunghee's tone and behavior because it relaxed, if only a little. There was still skepticism in its eyes but much less so.
