Chapter 40 : A Mother’s Concern

*Lexie’s POV*

As I watch mom sleep soundly, it feels as if a weight has been lifted off my shoulders, and for the first time in days, I can allow myself to breathe. I don’t allow myself to stay away from her, because I don’t want to miss the moments she wakes up.

Doctor Patel said she could take several days to fully recover; most of her strength will come faster, but she will feel like she has run a marathon each time. The days she gets to sleep and rest, are going to help her fully recover.

"Lexie," my mother murmurs, her voice weak but her eyes bright with life as they flutter open.

“Mom, how are you feeling? You should rest more,” I quickly say as I stand up to get her some water. She drinks from the metal straw and swallows slowly.

"I'm feeling so much better," she yawns and then gives me and Noland a smile. “I just get tired quickly, just woke up and I want to sleep more.”
