*Noland’s POV*
As I step off the elevator and approach Lexie's hotel room, I can't help but feel a twinge of excitement at the prospect of whisking her away on a surprise trip. My heart races in anticipation, eager to see that smile light up her face when she learns of our destination.
I give the door three solid knocks. The door swings open almost immediately, revealing Carol. Her eyes are weary and wary, which sends a chill down my spine.
"Mr. Reynolds, come in," she says with a tight-lipped smile.
"Thank you, Carol," I reply, stepping inside.
My gaze darts around the room, searching for Lexie. She is sitting by the window, her slender frame perched on the edge of the cushioned seat. Her hair cascades around her shoulders like a fiery waterfall. But her vibrant green eyes, usually so full of life, are clouded with worry.
"Lexie?" I call out softly, concern lacing my voice.
She glances up, offering me a weak smile that doesn't quite reach her eyes. "Hey."
