First Door

I sit down next to the pool as Everett sits down next to me. The kids are splashing each other with smiles and having fun. I look at the water where there are drains on the side, probably to keep the water level but what is a pool doing here? I guess I shouldn't be so paranoid but this doesn't seem right. This could just be like a living room for the gods since they all seem to have their own rooms. I look over to Everett, who is smiling as he watches the kids.

"Should we leave them here?"

"What do you mean?"

"I mean they are having fun and I don't want them to get hurt. Plus, look at the doors left. How are we supposed to beat death without getting hurt? I just don't want anyone to have severe injuries."

I see him looking down at my arm for a second before looking back at my face. "Does that include yourself?"

I pause for a second. "Well I guess it does but I would rather get hurt then the kids. They are only kids after all. I want them to have a childhood. I regret letting Lukus come with us from the beginning. I know you feel the same for not going back so Hope is safe."

"You're right, I have but wouldn't they be hurt if we leave them behind?"

"They might be safe."

I see him pause for a second. "Well if we were to enter a room and see what we are against then we would be on the safe side."

"Which door should we go through first then?"

Everett looks at the door that we suspect to still have gods alive. "Let's do the one with the human on it. After all, it is the only unclear door."

We both stand up when Lukus swims over to us.

"Dad."

"Yes, buddy?"

"Where are you going?"

"We are going to investigate the doors more, okay buddy?"

"Can I come with you?"

"No, you stay here and play."

"Okay. Please just don't get hurt again."

"I will try my best."

"Good."

Lukus goes back to swimming. Everett and I walk up to the human door. There are four hand pads around the door. Two of them are too high to reach and the other two are at the very bottom.

"Everett, do you think you could reach the two hand pads on the top if you stand on my shoulders?"

"I might but then how will you get the bottom two?"

"I will figure that out but the top two seem the hardest so let's focus on those two first."

"Alright."

I kneel down on the ground. I feel Everett step on my shoulders. I hold his legs as I stand up. I am a little wobbly as this is a rare thing for us to do. I can feel Everett leaning against the wall. Once I am fully standing up, I look up at him. I can't tell if he can reach it or not.

"Can you reach?"

"No, I can't. I'm close but not quiet."

"Great. Let me help you down."

I kneel back down on the ground and I let him get off of me.

"Do you think we should get the kids to help? I mean we will be able to reach them then."

I pause for a second as I think about it. I don't want the kids to get hurt but he has a point. "As long as we enter the room first."

"I will go get them."

He soon comes back with both kids. Hope is on his shoulders and Lukus beside him. They are both soaking wet from playing in the pool.

"Uncle M! I get to go into the air." I guess Everett told her what we are going to do.

"Yes, you do, little man."

I kneel back down as Everett gets on my shoulders. I help him up as Lukus puts his hands on the bottom hand pads. The door opens once Hope puts her hands onto the top hand pads. I set down Everett and Hope down.

"Kids, stay here."

"But I want to come with you."

"Lukus you can't come with. Me and Everett are going to see what is inside and then we will be back out. We don't want you to be hurt. Plus, you should be able to see us from the door. We just can't have you two getting hurt."

"Okay dad."

Everett and I head inside. The room split in two with a blue line with white on the one side and red on the other side. There are pictures of different people all over the room but there is a different list with actions on them under the pictures. The list has different actions. I recognize most of these people. The ones on the white side are all the people that have done amazing things. The ones on the red side have done horrible things and I see my face. My list has most of the things that I have done. I also see Lukus' face but the things on his list are stupid. Everything he broke was to stop me. He was trying to do good. I take his photo down. This photo shouldn't be here. I put it on the other side. The list changes slightly to add more details on what he did. That is a lot better.

I hear Everett chuckle. "I saw that."

"So what if you did. This seems to have to do with people's moral compass. Lukus is a good kid. He should be on this side. It makes more sense."

"Are you going to move your photo as well? I mean you do have a very messed up moral compass that sometimes you think you are doing things for good and other things you know are bad and there isn't a middle."

"No, I'm not. I see no reason to. I know I am a bad person, but is your photo here?"

"Yes, it is. It's too high for me to reach though."

Everett points at his photo and I look at his list.

"When did you steal something? I can't read what it says but it looks like a chemical."

"Oh. Ya. Remember when you got really sick and left me in charge?"

"When I almost died?"

"Yes."

"Yes, I remember that, what about it?"

"So I wanted to try something new, this resulted into the same thing that was used to heal Lukus so fast and why you are still alive as you died like five times on me, but I had to get it from a government facility. It's actually something the public shouldn't know about. I did research on it and now I have a pretty big file on it in my office out of sight so no one will find it."
