Chapter 8:Monster in plain sight

After intense investigation, Lark and Silvia were able to get information from Brook.

He had been hired by a noble to raid a village and bring back its occupants as slaves and that was not the first time, they were close to delivering their order but after their sudden encounter, everything went into shambles. With the location of the drop zone, the two headed out to hunt the said noble behind it, when they got back a letter was written to the capital to inform them of the disappearance of a backwater noble family due to unknown reasons.

After sending the report, they went to see Aldin, who was awake at the time.

When I woke up, I was back home, I thought what had happened the previous day was just a bad dream but my sore body and the wounds all over my body said otherwise, I could also see a black ring on my finger, I was getting confused with all the information flooding my brain. I was unable to handle it all and all I could do was cry, the warm tears ran down my face reminding me of the blood that has trickled from my wounds, if not for my father's training, I would have died yesterday.

'I have to get stronger and fast; I don't want anyone to hurt me anymore!' I swore to myself.

Amidst my wails, Vera, Darvin's mom walked in, she wiped my tears and stayed with me until my parents arrived.

"What happened yesterday?" My mother asked with worry on her face, after narrating what had happened to me yesterday the room went silent, both my parents were expressionless, tension grew within room until Vera walked out of her own accord.

"Dad, I want you to train me." I said, which shocked both my parents.

"And where did you forget me." My mother added, displeased at having been left out.

"We will but not right now you need to get some rest to heal those injuries of yours, when your ready we'll begin." My father added as he dragged my mother out by the hand.

"Honey, don't you think we've let scum dwell a lot in the city, what do you think about we go for some cleaning" Lark said to his wife when they got out of the room.

"I couldn't have said better." Silvia replied.

On that day the gangs and corrupt nobles had been annihilated with no traces left behind except their ashes and assets that were used to take care of a group of refugees, Aden had changed greatly within a day.

After my parents left I had nothing else to do and since I was not allowed to leave the house all I could do was try and improve my mana core since it had been stagnated for some time, I sat on my bed and drew mana from the atmosphere and stored it in my mana core, with continued accumulation I would be able make a breakthrough and advance to a tier two but even after continuous accumulation there were no signs. When I got tired of the endless accumulation I proceeded to sleep, when I woke up my parents had finally come back and thy even seemed happy, we shared a meal and they read me a story before I slept, I had thought I had grown too big for this, but I had really missed it.

After a month of proper rest and nothing but accumulation, all my wounds had finally healed. I was excited that the next day me and my mother would begin my training and she would train me on various methods of using my water attribute.

Our training would be taking place in the woods, although I still had nightmare from my fated day I held it in and focused on accumulating power.

"First I want you to show me all the spells you have accumulated." my mother said a=to which I immediately fired out one of each. From her expression I could tell she was impressed.

"That is a good amount you have but your understanding is a little shallow." My mother said. "Water has three different form and you have only utilized two. "she said as she formed mist on her palm.

"To achieve the last one, you need to compress the water till it gains a solid form." The water in her palm shrunk till it formed an orb, "and the more you do the stronger your spell can be." After compressing it more she fired it and an entire tree fell down, I was in awe at the power of that attack although it was small it was almost on par with my tiny star.

I immediately began practicing, I used water the size of a grown man's head and tried condensing it in the shape of an arrow it, but it burst.

'What could I have possibly done wrong?' I thought to myself and tried again several times but failed each time, after several failures, "what did I do wrong," I asked my mother.

"it's simple, all you have to do is ensure that it is equally applied on all sides, then you can shape it, when you have enough experience, you will be able to shape it with ease.

I immediately took the advice and tried my luck this time and it did, once the orb was formed I shaped it into a small arrow when I fired it multiple trees fell, I jumped to celebrate my achievement and before my mother cold continue I formed anther orb but larger this time and use it to make a sword, when I swung it felt like an actual sword and throughout the day I practiced more and was even able to form some armor and only after we left did me and my mother leave.

The following day, it was time for me and my father to practice. We had already done some sword practice, and now it was time for him to guide me on my light attribute.

"did you find an offensive application of light." He asked before we even started.

To answer his question, I formed my tiny star and fired it at a rock, the rock immediately crumbled.

"good but you wasted a great spell." To solve my confusion, he formed one and made it into the shape of a disc, and with the help of his hand directing it, it split trees in half and came back to his arm.

"Spells of the light attribute require a lot of mana and as such should not be wasted. If you can maintain it during a battle it will tear down forces and it can be any shape you desire and mots of all it does not necessarily have to be in its energy form"

Without uttering a word he formed a an small flat blade made using light constructs and fired it at the fallen trees and they were broken apart with those movements.

"I want you to develop your own and do your best to use the least amount of mana possible." My father said .

With that in mind I formed a thin arrow head shaped construct and instead of the breaking down the trees I used in on the rock but the first one broke due to it bring weakly structured. On my second try it was too mana expensive and thus a failure on Mt third try I worked on my failures and took my time and concentrated on using the least amount of mana and concentrating it as much as possible, when I checked the results, it was paper thin and after firing it at the rock it was split in half.

For the rest of the day my father helped me work on some of my weak points and develop new spells when it got to noon we headed back home but my father diverged and when to his office.

Lark Randell

The previous day my wife had told me that our son had monstrous talent, at first I thought it was just her being motherly but today I witnessed what she meant, he had an almost inexhaustible mana supply and the skills to back if up. He had been able to use all spells that I had shown him and even surpass me in some.

Despite being having a third tier mage, he was of equal standing with me. When I got back to the office, I found Silvia in my office, when she turned to look at me I could see her smug expression, before she could say a word, "You were right." Is said before she even had the chance t gloat.

"I told you so." She said with a large grin on her face.

"Yes," I said.

After clearing everything we had to do we went back home, we found Aldin reading his books after which we had dinner. It was really funny how he was still a child and had that much power in his grasp, when would truly grow up to be a strong mage, greater than us.
