An earing

Killian turned around, his gaze settling on Amelia's serene face. The mere thought of letting her go was splitting his heart in two. He grasped his chest, gasping for air as though his very life was being drained from him.

"See, Killian, just the thought of staying away from her kills us. We can't part with her. We need her," whispered the devil.

"Then what should I do? I don't want to betray my family?" he asked.

"By hiding that thing, you have already betrayed them, Killian," the devil reminded.

Hearing that, Killian's expression hardened. He had always been fiercely loyal to his family, upholding the honor of their name. The thought of turning against them filled him with revulsion and sadness.
