Chapter Twenty six - Interview

It takes money to make more money. The trick is to realise where the money brings the returns and where it is poured down the drain. After spending many years in a prestigious and premiere institute of excellence, under the care of rich, uber rich, smart and super smart students, even the dumbest person could understand few principles without entering the society properly.

And the thick file under Atharva's name showed he was not dumb, but the opposite. So why would he ask about how Mrs Briggs knew about his lack of thought towards being an entrepreneur? Was Mrs Briggs wrong? Was her guess correct? If correct, how did she know it?

Mrs Briggs laughed. " Good! It is worth spending time in this useless department to meet someone like you. Work for me. I'll tell you why I thought that. How about it? You can get free teaching from such a great persona like me, just by entering the workforce a bit early."

Atharva shook his head. He took the polite way and said he would consider it. He would really consider it. He could compare the salary, bonuses, working hours, the duties and many more before accepting any job. Unless some glitch happened beyond his scope, he knew he did well in the exams. Whether he was in top 100 of his cohort, he didn't know but he would not be in last 50, he had that confidence. Even keeping that as base line, he would get lots of job offers. He would not dive into first hole he found, even if was gilded by gold.

Mrs Briggs sighed. The scholarship department had unspoken function too, as a head hunter. A poor, brilliant, driven sap would be a loyal worker. A bit of brainwashing and multiple talks of loyalty and brotherhood, they would be most ferocious guards. She didn't get first dibs on such a fine boy. Now she had to compete with others to get him to join her company.

She turned into professional. This hiccup was a minor thing. "I have assessed all the exams you have taken in the time you were this college. Even we can't access to your results till it's declared, somewhere within next ten days. However, I can accept the early prepayment of the loan and handle the next few procedures. I think you should come to us a week after the results are declared. Your case is different, so we need a full committee meeting for it and all of us will be swamped dealing with others after results are declared. You will be notified when to come for follow up." Her eyes said the remaining - now pay and get lost.

Atharva could just nod and pay. He had not expected that there would be a delay. But he understood Mrs Briggs intentions. If he had performed well in finals, the probability of getting even more scholarship money was higher and that needed review from full committee. The members were very busy and getting them together just to deal with his matter would not be deemed urgent matter, thus they would not convene a meeting soon after results were declared.

However, this meant he had to stay near vicinity of college for more days after results were declared.

Should he continue playing game then too or just give it up when free trial period ends? Well, he had some time to ponder. He booked a capsule room for himself for the days he would be waiting for the meeting and went back to his dormitory. Maybe he could find ways to earn money. He recalled there were many posts in school forum which said they would buy resources from game with credits. He should search in regards to how to facilitate that sort of transaction.

In one of the news studios, a sensational interview was about to begin. As the most discussed game of the moment, the producers had to pull quite a strings to get one of the chief game developer of the game into interview. This interview had costed a lot. Developers of game had spent trillions in advertising and marketing, as estimated by the industry people though none had come to deny it. But the big people, people who worked on the game were completely invisible to the public. They didn't do interviews, they didn't chat or share details in any forums or social media, not even a selfie and change in the nickname to show that they worked in that mega project. The producers had to pull many strings, then pay and accept all sorts of restrictive conditions before one of them agreed to be interviewed. Then had to get back more than they spent or else it would be a waste. So they started putting in the face advertising about the upcoming interview. Heck, one of the geniuses even started a trend with a post of 'what I want to ask the game company '.

The live interview had more than billions of viewers, even before the interview started.

The news company called a team to be hosts. One of them was veteran, 'Last Song' Song Min hae, noted for her tough demeanor and in depth interviews. The other, recently retired A level eSports player, 'Shark' Silva de Mailo. who was still active in gaming world. This way they could cover all the parts. They could talk from gamer perceptive and newcomer perceptive. They could talk about in game details and behind the scenes, real life details. They could cover about the present and future of the game or in the game. They could discuss financial changes and implications. As the time given for interview was short, they had to be precise and detailed, no time to chit chat or going round and round the real issue. These hosts fitted the bill nicely. The gaming company gave green signal for the interview.

The person they would be talking with would be Camelot Tasmin.

Camelot got famous few years back as he was chief gaming programmer for the game 'Avalon High'. That game opened a new chapter in gaming industry. Before that, he had worked in many games and had extensive and exhaustive resumé.
