CHAPTER SEVENTEEN- Fateful Decision

Upon hearing about the arrest of their mom, Jerry, and Joe planned to kill Daniel in retribution after learning of their mother's incarceration. They intend to use his father to entice him.

"If we were to set the house ablaze, Dad would also lose his life; how about moving him first?" Joe proposed.

"Mom also has a plan to kill him; there's something you need to know," Jerry said, oddly glancing at Joe.

Here, he offers Joe a DNA test medical report slip proving that Mr. Johnson is not their biological father.

"What! Joe was stunned and unable to talk properly.

"He isn't our real father, and killing him won't hurt us."

"bu....t he.....! Joe took a deep breath, but he brought us up. Joe said he was feeling anxious and despairing.

"Our mom is as good as dead! Should we embrace a man whose son did such a thing to our mom?" Also, if we successfully exterminate them both, the whole wealth will be ours." Jerry said he was trying to convince Joe.

"Ok, what's the plan? Joe asked eagerly.

"Once we successfully lure him inside the room where his dad is staying, we will lock them together and release a toxic chemical in the room." "And that's the end for both of them," Jerry chuckled.

"Daniel, I don't know how Dad is feeling. He is having a seizure. You need to hurry up!" Jerry said he was trying to lure Daniel.

"Seizure? Daniel shouted. "OK, I will be on my way. Have you called the doctor? Daniel asked anxiously.

"Are you ok?" Katherine asked, looking worried.

"I have to rush home; my dad's health is deteriorating," Daniel said, looking worried.

"Let go together, babe! Katherine said she was showing concern.

"No, don't worry; stay in the office with Harry; I will be right back," Daniel said as he kissed her on the forehead.

"I need a favor from you," Daniel said, placing his palm on her shoulder.

"What's that, boss?" Katherine asked.

"Call John and let him know I've got Jerry Joe's address; they should join me at my dad's mansion." He said.

"OK, but be careful, dear; I don't feel comfortable leaving you alone," Katherine said, looking anxious.

"I will be okay, dear, Daniel said, caressing Katherine's hair.

Daniel arrived at his dad's mansion. He rushed in to check on his dad's health, only to find out it was stable.

"But I thought he'd be having a seizure," he said to himself. "But why is there no one staying beside him?" He said to himself, Suddenly, he heard the sound of the door closing on him.

"Who's there?" He exclaimed.

"You can now rest in hell with your dad," Jerry said.

He releases a toxic chemical that is capable of destroying the respiratory organs. He released it through a small open space with the intent of killing both Daniel and his dad.

"Have a nice journey to hell together," he said.

Daniel quickly covered his nose and tried to cover up for his dad as well.

"I can't survive my illness; I should risk myself to save you, my dear son." Mr. Johnson said he started coughing blood and quickly covered his son.

"No Dad I won't let you sacrifice yourself for me, no!" Daniel said, trying to push his dad off, but he was unable to do so.

"Right from your childhood, I did nothing for you; I only brought you hardship and pain. This is the least I can do." Mr. Johnson said, tears rolling down his eyes. "Forgive me, Dan," he said.

"Dad! I caused your death; I should be the one to receive the punishment." Daniel cried out, trying to move his dad on top of him.

"I love your mom; it's just that I was carried away by my past feelings." "All I thought I had with her was not mine." He continues, "My trusted driver betrayed me, and I helped him raise his kids." "What did I achieve in this cruel world? Had I known, I would have been satisfied with my wife and lived happily. Mr. Johnson started to cough, hardly to the extent that blood started to come out of his nose and mouth.

Jerry and Joe were about to escape when the police surrounded the building and requested that they surrender or else they would open fire on them.

They both raised their hands and walked towards the cops; they were apprehended by the cops.

Just then, Katherine noticed Daniel was not with them. "Daniel! Daniel! she screamed." She and Johnson rushed inside the mansion to look for Daniel.

Katherine led them towards the room where Mr. Johnson had been attended to. On getting there, they noticed the door was locked and the room was filled with toxic chemical substances.

They placed a sticky bomb on the door and all moved back. A remote was pressed, and the bomb blew off.

"Wear your gas mask," Detective Anderson instructed, and he gave one to Katherine.

"Wear it before entering; hydrogen cyanide is the name of the chemical they're exposed to. It's very dangerous for intake," Detective Anderson instructed Katherine.

They went in and found Mr. Johnson on Daniel; both of them passed out.

"Oh my gosh! Daniel! Daniel!" Katherine screamed. "Please don't leave me alone, please." She fell to the ground, crying.

On getting outside, an ambulance is already waiting for Harry, who is on standby.

"Boss! Boss! Stay with me!" he shouted, chasing after the wheel bed Daniel was laid on.

"He's going to make it! He's been through hell, yet he survived." "He will surely survive this as well." Detective Anderson said, trying to console her.

They all rushed to New York Presbyterian Hospital. They waited anxiously, hoping for positive results.

After waiting for an hour, the doctor attended to Daniel, and his dad came out to meet Katherine and Harry.

"I am sorry to say this; we lost Mr. Johnson; he passed away around 3:30 pm, and the cause of death was excessive inhalation of hydrogen cyanide." The doctor started, and he bowed to them as a sign of respect.

Harry and Katherine fell on their knees and wept bitterly.

"What of Daniel? Katherine asked.

"He's-"

Doctor! he's awake! He's awake! Another nurse shouted.

They all rushed to his ward.
