I had never travelled outside of the city since I was born, and now I was crossing the border to Ethiopia. What a whirlwind of emotions!

A tailor was sent to take our measurements for the clothes we would wear during the wedding. My dad also sent ready-made clothing, shoes, bags, perfumes, jewellery, gels, creams, and makeup kits. At that moment, I realized this was not a dream; it was happening for real.

“Aisha, how would you feel about going to Ethiopia?” I asked her.

She responded, “What do you mean going to Ethiopia? To do what?”

“Can you keep a secret?” I asked.

“Yes, of course,” she replied.

“Dad is about to get married to another woman, and she’s from Ethiopia. He asked me to let you know so we can get ready to travel with him for the wedding. No one knows about it except you and me; it’s a secret.”
