________
They finally made their way into the candlelit Great Hall, and it was marvelous like last year.
It was almost full of students, all of them anticipating the end of the Feast for the Champion Selection.
The Goblet of Fire itself had been moved from the Entrance Hall and now resided in front of Dumbledore's empty chair at the teachers table.
Fred and George- clean-shaven again - seemed to have taken their disappointment fairly well.
"Hope it's Angelina," Fred said as they all sat near him.
"So do I!" Hermione said breathlessly, "we'll know soon, though!"
The Halloween feast soon commences, and everyone, even Lucifer, felt like it was taking longer than usual.
None of them were used to two feasts and two dinners in a row, but he still enjoyed a small variety of the foods.
He knew the Feast always lasted an hour, so he was in no rush to see when Dumbledore finished eating.
During the feast, he glanced up and saw one of the girls at the Ravenclaw table quickly move back to her seat, having leaned over to apparently stare at him.
From the quick glance, it didn't look like Madeleine, so he wondered just which Beauxbatons girl it was.
After an egregious amount of waiting, the golden plates finally cleared to their spotless state; there was a sharp upswing in the level of noise within the Hall, which died away almost instantly as Dumbledore got to his feet.
On either side of him, Professor Karkaroff and Madame Maxime looked as tense and expectant as anyone.
Ludo Bagman was beaming and winking at various students.
Bartemius Crouch, however, looked quite uninterested in the events about to take place.
"Well, the Goblet is almost ready to make its decision," Dumbledore said in a booming voice, "I estimate it requires one more minute. Now, when the champions' names are called, I would ask them please to come up to the top of the Hall, walk along the staff table, and go through into the next chamber," he indicated the door behind the staff table.
"Where they will be receiving their first instructions."
He took out his wand and gave a great sweeping wave with it; at once, all the candles except those inside the carved pumpkins were extinguished, plunging them into semidarkness.
The Goblet of Fire now shone more brightly than anything in the whole Hall, the sparkling bright, bluey-whiteness of the flames almost painful on the eyes.
"Any second..." Lee said absent-mindedly.
The flames inside the Goblet suddenly turned red again.
Sparks began to fly from it.
Next moment, a tongue of flame shot into the air, a charred piece of parchment fluttered out of it - the whole room, save a few students, gasped.
Dumbledore caught the piece of parchment and held it at arm's length, so that he could read it by the light of the flames, which had turned back to blue-white.
"The Champion for Durmstrang is," he read in a strong, clear voice, "Viktor Krum!"
"No surprise there!" Ron yelled as a storm of applause swept through the hall.
Krum rose from the Slytherin table and slouched up toward Dumbledore; he turned right, walked along the staff table, and disappeared through the door into the next chamber.
"Whoever the Hogwarts Champion is better kick his arse in every Task," Lucifer said once the applause died down.
Everyone's attention refocused on the Goblet, which, seconds later, turned red once more.
A second piece of charred parchment shot out of it, propelled by the flames, "The Champion for Beauxbatons is," Dumbledore paused only a moment, "Fleur Delacour!"
"Look! That must be the friend Eve was talking about!" Harry shouted as the girl who so resembled a veela got gracefully to her feet, shook back her sheet of silvery blonde hair, and swept up between the Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff tables.
He was right; Lucifer saw Eve on her feet across the Hall, cheering loudly for her friend as Fleur had vanished into the side chamber while the others looked disappointed.
Hermione stuck her tongue out at Emily who also looked downtrodden for not being chosen, causing Lucifer to chuckle and kiss her cheek.
Silence fell over the Hall again, but this time it was a silence so stiff with excitement you could almost taste it.
The Hogwarts champion was next...
The Goblet of Fire turned red once more; sparks showered out of it; the tongue of flame shot high into the air, and from its tip Dumbledore pulled the third piece of parchment.
The Hogwarts Champion is -
"Cedric Diggory!"
"No!" Ron yelled, but only Harry and Lucifer had heard him.
The applause and uproar from the next table was so great, that it was almost deafening.
When Cedric had finally left, and the silence was almost back in the Great Hall, Lucifer leaned over.
"Five Sickles, Weasely."
Ron looked at him with bulging eyes of shock written on them.
He begrudgingly got the Five Sickles out and almost threw them at him, who casually pocketed his money.
Lucifer figured he could find something at Hogsmeade to spend the Five Sickles on.
"Excellent!" Dumbledore called happily after the tumultuous applause completely died down.
"Well, we now have our three champions! I am sure I can count upon all of you, including the remaining students from Beauxbatons and Durmstrang, to give your champions every ounce of support you can muster. Bye cheering your champion on, you will contribute in a very real-"
Dumbledore had suddenly stopped talking, and it was obvious to everyone what had caused him to stop so abruptly.
The fire in the Goblet had just turned red again.
Sparks were flying, and a long flame shot out into the air, and borne upon it was another piece of parchment.
Dumbledore automatically grabbed the parchment with no hesitation.
He held it out and stared at the name written upon it.
There was a long pause, during which Dumbledore stared at the parchment, almost unbelieving of the words written on it.
He suddenly cleared his throat and spoke loudly and clearly-
"Harry Potter!"
A deafening silence filled the Great Hall.
Lucifer couldn't believe what he'd heard. He looked over at his raven-haired friend, and he wasn't budging.
"Harry, go on," he whispered to him.
Harry turned to him and he looked beyond Lucifer, assumedly looking at all of the Gryffindors, "I didn't put my name in," he said blankly, "You know I didn't."
"Harry Potter!" Dumbledore called again, "Harry! Up here, if you please?"
"Go on, Harry," Lucifer urged him using the name again, it made Harry reluctantly get to his feet.
Lucifer could see the glares of every Hufflepuff at the table next to him, and they all wanted nothing more than to pin Harry's head on a pike.
"This is not good..." Hermione understated.
Ron, however, was not in a right state, Lucifer could see that much, but he managed to be holding it in better than one would've thought.
"Someone wants him dead... someone at this school..." Lucifer whispered to Hermione.
"I was thinking the same thing... that leaves us only one question," she said, looking at him as Harry disappeared through the double doors.
"Who here at Hogwarts did put Harry's name in that Goblet..." Lucifer was going to kill the person when he got his hands on them when he found out.
Hermione had held her breath all the way up until the Blue-White flames went out of the Goblet, in which she exhaled carefully.
She had expected Lucifer's name to come out of the Goblet as well, quite honestly.
Dumbledore told them all to make their way back to their Common Rooms or respective living arrangements outside the Castle.
When they all stood up from their seats, Ron almost broke out into a run ahead of them.
Hermione knew that Ron got jealous of Harry, her time at the Burrow this past summer proved that much.
But for Ron to actually think that Harry would put his name in the Goblet was ridiculous.
Ron was supposed to be Harry's best friend, and for him to believe he would want to actually enter underaged, to Hermione that was honestly and utterly ridiculous.
When they got into the Entrance Hall, the talk grew louder, and lots of Hogwarts students were saying really nasty things about Harry, things they'd never say in front of an Authority Figure.
They both made their way into the Common Room in time to see Ron ascending the Boy's Staircase
"He's in a right state, he is," Seamus said to them as they went and sat down on a loveseat.
Hermione pulled a book from her robes and continued from her place from earlier, "D'you really think Harry entered his name?"
"No, I don't think he did," Lucifer looked at Seamus, then behind the Irish Boy when he saw the Twins getting things ready for a party.
"I don't know why we are celebrating."
Seamus turned around, looked back at Lucifer and shrugged, then walked over to see what they were doing.
"Leave it to the Twins to use any excuse to party," Hermione said after a brief glance in their direction, "even at the expense of an underaged Wizard being forced into a Tournament with an age-restriction."
"Since Weasely's being an ass right now, Harry is going to need the both of us as his support through this. I can only imagine how afraid he is. Even if he doesn't show it, he has to be scared deep down," Lucifer said with a look in her direction.
"....You called him by name."
"I should have started doing that last year to be honest..."
