Nathan Davis emphasized the word "dead" with significant weight, causing Ethan Montgomery's frame to slightly twitch in reaction. 

He was reminded of their child, still unformed, a child he never wanted to admit existed with anyone other than Grace Anderson. 

Despite his pretense of ignorance, deep down, he couldn't help but wish for the child's safe arrival into the world.

Yet, just yesterday, someone whispered in his ear that the child Avery Miller was carrying was gone. The news left him in a daze, and when he stood up, his body swayed slightly.
