"Don't worry," Derek reassured her. "Even though his character is indeed questionable, he has assured me, hand on heart, that he will do everything in his power to keep Ethan Montgomery occupied. Plus, his role is only to delay Ethan; he doesn't know what our next moves are. You can put your mind at ease."

 

Reassured by his words, Avery had nothing more to say.

 

She watched him lean against the hospital window outside, where he had been waiting for a long time, clinging to a large pipe that ran from the roof to the floor below. Concerned he couldn't hold out much longer, she didn't give it another thought, climbed through the window, and Derek reached out to pull her onto his back. He also used a long, flat strap to secure her to him, preventing any risk of falling.
