A Sudden Illness

Derek Mason watched her as she lay draped over the edge of the bed, her frail body limp as if devoid of bones, her face so pallid it was almost translucent, making her look incredibly vulnerable. His heart ached at the sight.

 

"Should I get a doctor to look at you? Your complexion is alarmingly pale, and I'm worried..." His voice caught in his throat. He had only just managed to bring her out here, but if she couldn't hold on while on this ship, then what was the point of it all?

 

Avery Miller found even speaking a struggle. Sweat beaded on her forehead continuously, and every part of her body ached tremendously.

 

"It's... it's okay... I can... can hold on... Don't worry too much." Her eyes were heavy, longing for sleep, but the pain throughout her body kept her from resting peacefully.
