The Life Claimer

"Fine, I am heartless; I have wronged you!" With those words, he turned and walked out the door, his silhouette as forlorn as it had been that morning, leaving her eyes stinging with a fresh wave of tears.

 

Mr. Yamada was still seated on the floor, legs casually sprawled out. His almond eyes wide, he watched the back and forth between them, utterly confused about the connection between their words and the day's events. Strangely, it seemed he was the instigator of the chaos, yet somehow his British business partners were the ones suffering the consequences. Even Derek seemed misled, but why was Ms. Miller, another British associate, also so displeased and suspicious of him?

 

"Ah, these British, truly a perplexing bunch," he muttered to himself.

 

"Avery, are you alright?" Derek Mason turned her toward him, checking her over for injuries.
