Ambushed

Avery Miller looked up at him with a joyful smile. "No take-backs on your word, or you're a puppy!" she declared with playful stubbornness in her youthful tone.

Ethan Montgomery felt a pang of remorse. During the time he had her in his life, how much had he truly cherished? At times, he felt utterly reprehensible, continually letting her down and pushing her away, despite all the hardships she had endured. Now, all she wanted was his commitment on this small matter.

"I won't regret it," he said firmly, his voice carrying an unquestionable conviction. Then, he pulled her closer into his embrace, feeling more fulfilled with her in his arms, his heart finally at ease.

Avery laughed heartily, wishing she could express her joy louder. Her man, it seemed, had fallen as deeply in love with her as she had with him—a truly delightful realization.
