Put It On, Get in the Car

Mark couldn't believe his eyes as he looked at the exhausted woman sitting with her back to him. She had actually eaten all the food on the table. Every last bite.

 

"Mark," Lynn called out, having spotted him standing behind Avery Miller.

 

Avery turned slowly at the sound of Lynn's voice, a hint of triumph in her eyes. "See? I finished everything. Now you have to take me to see them, right?"

 

Without a word, Mark walked over to her, surveying the chaotic remnants on the table. Even the soup bowls were licked clean. His eye twitched slightly. He had clearly underestimated her ability to eat.

 

Moreover, he hadn't insisted she finish everything.

"Are you sure you can walk that far?" he asked skeptically.

 

"Of course!" Avery slapped the table and stood up quickly, startling Lynn, who had been standing quietly nearby.
