~~~Azrael Jaesyrian~~~
~~~Carcosa~~~

The city of Carcosa bore a huge resemblance to Dragonstone, with its black walls, gargoyles decorating the battlements, and looking gothic statues, along with its borders of cliffs and tall rocks, it looked as if it had been transported to Dragonstone.

It was as if he had entered a city ruled by the Addams, though judging by how Isabella's father, who was the king of the city, and very much a sorcerer, such a phrase was not so far from the truth.

Endoxes circled the city three times, roaring and making his presence known, followed closely by Valka's wyverns and other witches accompanying me. For this mission, I planned to do things quickly, to return to Xandar as soon as possible, since I did not want to be away from my kingdom for too long, especially since I had to build cities for the Jhogos Nhai, as well as close the Steel Pass and the Stone Pass, to leave the Sand Pass south of the Bone Mountains as the only one to control the passage between the West and East of the Bone Mountains.

This would bring Xandar a great deal of money, as Xandar would control the land and sea passage between both parts of Essos, which could manage to bring great benefits to all of Xandar as a whole.

Standing in the sky, I could see the high peaks of the Dawn Mountains, with the city of the Winged Men on the northern shore of the Hidden Sea, a towering city with steep, pointed towers that seemed to touch the sky.

"My father will be pleased to see me again, he is a rough, but upright man, you will get along very well with him," Isabella, sitting behind me, commented with noticeable happiness. She was very excited to be back home.

As for me, I was not happy about coming to this city, a city that looked like something out of a horror story, with rivers of radioactive green flowing, dark walls, and fog and gloom, it seemed as if the city hadn't seen good days in years. "Did you grow up here?"

My question perhaps sounded too direct, or perhaps I didn't hide my bewilderment about Carcosa, because Isabella responded with a scathing tone, "What? While I didn't grow up in a city as grand and beautiful as Xandar, that doesn't make Carcosa any less, she is beautiful to the right eyes."

I could only sigh, not denying Isabella's love for her home city, which, while it seemed utterly hideous, did not take away from the fact that it was the place Isabella called home.

Soon, I urged Endoxes to land just outside the city walls, and soon he landed and scattered ashes in the air, along with a strong smell of sulfur and smoke, truly this city needs a break. I'm surprised that someone as pretty and bright as Isabella has left this place.

Helping Isabella off Endoxes back after I went down first, I waited for the witches and Valka to approach me, being constantly alert, I knew Isabella couldn't play dirty, but that didn't bring out my bad luck.

From the walls surrounding the city, a retinue of men came out, led by a thin, tall man with pale skin, cold blue eyes, straight black hair, and a droopy appearance. Though he looked as if he would collapse at any moment, the man rode with his head held high and confident. Until he reached some distance from us.

"Father!" Isabella's excited shout made me a little uncomfortable, especially since her voice came out so shrill, as she rode away from me and ran the dying man.

Isabella reached her father, threw herself at him, and hugged him, forgetting everything around her and concentrating on her and her father. It was a very emotional moment for her, especially after being away from her father for so long, something Endoxes didn't understand, deciding it was a good idea to roar, bringing Isabella and her father's embrace to an end, making her realize he was still standing without having introduced me.

"Father, meet Azrael, the king of Xandar, he has offered me asylum in his kingdom after having to escape, and he has protected me ever since," Isabella introduced me to her father once she approached Menrico, who was with a calculating look on his face.

"Azrael, this is my father, Menrico Farwan, Witch King of Carcosa," upon being introduced, Menrico nodded his head, "From a father, I thank you for taking care of my daughter, you have my thanks."

"It's nothing, your daughter has known how to protect herself long before running into me, I only opened the doors to my kingdom for her". Dismissing his words, the truth was that I had done nothing to protect Isabella since I knew that even without my intervention nothing would happen to her inside Xandar, you had to be very stupid to attack someone in my house, and those enemies that Isabella had would think that the protection of Xandar would also extend to her, so they would refrain from attacking the city.

"Let's go in, have some wine, and chat," Menrico proposed, showing himself as pleasant and friendly. And agreeing, I started to follow him towards Carcosa, with the seven witches walking close to me, without letting my guard down at any moment, knowing we were on dangerous ground, both for them and me.

Already inside the walls, the environment changed, it was as if I had passed under a waterfall of hot springs, something that improved my state and even made me relax a little, "I see you like it," Menrico commented happily, but with a strange gleam in his eyes, "my city didn't look like this as you are seeing it, green fields grew everywhere, and fruit trees were born lush and strong, unless until the cursed Winged Men and their leader used those damned shadow scum to curse my lands."

"Is their use of shadow summoning strong enough to cause that? " I asked, curious about the extent of the power of such creatures, beings I didn't know much about, largely because even in the books or the series they were rarely mentioned, 'they couldn't, but the magic grew like never before since a year ago, that gave them the power to grow their arts, plus they managed to wake their leader from eternal sleep, now they have at their disposal a huge army of giant mummified eagles, they are hard to deal with and complicated to kill completely.'

"Leader, who is he and why was he in an eternal sleep?" if he was confused before, now he was lost, beginning to think that this conflict held more hidden pieces under the simple fight between two simple cities.

"I don't know much about him, only that he was a well-recognized important figure during the Age of Heroes, he controlled an army of giant eagles and became well known in distant Westeros, the stories say he was tainted by the death magic of an ancient and corrupted being called the Corpse Lady in Westeros, though here east of the Bone Mountains she has another name, known as the Amethyst Empress."

That information left me surprised, by the appearance of such beings, which mark a powerful contrast in Westeros, and which were greatly feared, taking as a reference the Night King, which, although defeated by Arya Stark, was a being of magic that awakened nightmares in the dreams of many, one that I would have to face perhaps in a few years, since I could not leave the survival of my kingdom at the hands of common men.

"That being awakened with the help of the Winged Men, since then, he's had those damned birds gaining ground in the war, they've already been advancing to lands further west and north, and it won't be long before they run into Yi Ti," Menrico explained, pointing out on a map of the region the places to which the Winged Men had been expanding.

"Well, then let me tell you that their advance will stop right now because no matter how many eagles they have, they have never faced a Wither," I said, feeling a colossal chill in the air the instant I mentioned that being straight out of hell itself.
