RETURN TO THE BATTLEFIELD
"What are we going to do now in this damned battlefield?" Sara asked us as we landed in Starri city.
"First we check up on our rescue operations", I told her.
We returned to the Kaleon family mansion. The opulent mansion was now turned into a refugee camp where we temporarily settled the refugees before sending them to Tarah city.
Those who could walk to Tarah city have already left. Those left behind were the old and weak people of the city. They had to wait for our airships to return to fetch them.
"How many more people do we need to ferry to Tarah city?" I asked Camliden.
Camliden was the volunteer who stayed back to help the war refugees.
"There are still many, but all our airships are ferrying them without stop, we hope to clear everybody by the end of the week", he told me.
"We don't have until the end of the week, the demon army are at the gates of Starri city", Chash told us after he went to scout the battlefield.
The demons have almost arrived, and they wasted no time to invade Staari city. The city's guards were useless and defenseless against the horde of demons without the protection of the Apostles. The gates of Starri city will fall soon.
Fortunately for us, our fleet of airships just arrived.
"Thank Solomon for bringing these ships back on time", Camliden said to us.
"The unfortunate thing is, this will be the last fleet that will return to fetch the refugees", I said to Camliden.
"Quickly, load the people onto the ships, do not bring any belongings, only people on the ships, we must carry as many people as we could", Camliden instructed the volunteers.
"Do you think the fleet will be able to ferry everyone away?" Cassandra asked me.
"I don't think that is possible, there are still so many people here, old and sick", Meera told us.
"The demons are coming into the city", Chash told us as he returned from his scouting.
"We stop the demons as long as we can until the airships leave", I said to my friends.
"Wait, we are saved, the apostles came back", Ratatouille said to us.
"That is ironic coming from an Anti-Saint", I said to him.
It seemed the apostles did not abandon the city entirely.
More accurately, the apostles weren't bothered about the city and its people. They were concerned about fighting the demon army.
------
In the crimson-tinted sky, the clash between heaven and hell unfurled as powerful three-horned demons with vast wings descended from the depths of darkness to confront an army of sword and shield-wielding Apostles.
The demons' red crimson scales gleamed ominously, and their eyes glowed with an infernal intensity, radiating an aura of malevolence that struck fear into the hearts of those who dared oppose them.
With an eerie silence, the two forces hovered in the heavens, each side gathering their strength before the impending eruption of chaos. The air hummed with magical energy, crackling with tension.
The demons' three horns emitted an otherworldly glow. In a blinding flash, they unleashed fiery beams of destruction that tore through the skies, leaving trails of scorching marks.
The Apostles, stood resolute, their swords raised high and their shields steadfastly defending their realm.
As the demons' fiery beams descended upon them, the Apostles retaliated by channeling their own inner power into their blades, causing them to ignite with ethereal energy. They swung their swords with precision, sending forth beams of brilliant light that countered the demons' flames.
The clash of magical beams filled the sky, illuminating the battlefield like a cosmic dance of light and fire.
The ground shook, and the city's skyline bore the brunt of the escalating conflict. The unleashed forces of light and fire crashed into the metropolis, turning once-thriving streets into avenues of destruction.
The people's cries echoed as beams of energy tore through buildings and brought devastation to the very heart of this civilization.
As the Apostles battled the Demonlords in the sky over Starri city, an army of the devious kind, crept into the city bringing with them a motley of opportunistic militia, demonic beasts and undead creeps.
-----
"There, another one is falling", Sara told us as she counted the falling Apostles and demons.
The Apostles and Demons didn't fight without casualties among them. In fact, there were many of them who died in battle.
"Summon Malevolent Slave"
I released my Malevolent Slave across the battlefield to scour the field for corpses to absorb magic and soul from the corpses, apostles, and demons alike. Even their bones nourished my magic after they were absorbed by my Malevolent Slaves.
Not to be outdone by my Malevolent, Ratatouille sprang into action going around the city to scavenge for good stuff and he found many.
"Wow, we would make a lot of money from all this stuff. No wonder they say we can profit from war", Ratatouille told us.
Suddenly, a group of impish demons rushed toward us, leaping and jumping, dripping their hellish flames into the grounds which ignited the streets and buildings.
Magic mirrors were conjured by Meera which quickly exploded into thousands of shards that struck the demons, wounding and killing many of them in a single strike.
"Mirrors of Envy"
Fires were summoned by Cassandra that dropped onto a nearby group of undead walkers, burning their flesh with her flames, stopping their onslaught.
Chash rose into the air as he fired his signature spell, beams of magic that could freeze and burn at the same time, targeting those that we may have missed.
Suddenly, our actions on the ground caught the attention of some of those in the sky. Several Demonlords swooped down to deal with our resistance.
"Die, you humans for defying the Savior and the King", the Demonlords shouted to us to our surprise.
This was the latest warcry of the demons.
But meeting the Demonlords, was me. I rose to the air before conjuring a wide beam of energy into the demons, surprising them with the ferocity of my magic.
