Chapter 9: Is this edible?

Ye Xia leisurely strolled a few streets in the town and went to Andre's place in the evening to settle dinner. This night, Ye Xia was sleeping at Andre's house.

The next morning, Ye Xia and Andrei had breakfast and set off in the direction of the North Gate.

At nine o'clock, on the second floor of a teahouse near the north gate of Tasco Town, in a street-side box, Ye Xia stood by a window that was only open a few centimeters wide, looking at the fleet of cars that slowly drove by on the street.

Three red-robed soldiers rode in front to lead the way, then four horse-drawn carriages, each accompanied by a red-robed soldier on horseback on each side of the carriages, and finally five soldiers on horseback, also dressed in red military uniforms.

In the first carriage sat the newlyweds, Varya and Joseph.

The second carriage, in which sat Joseph's parents.

In the third wagon, sat Joseph's brother and sister-in-law.

The fourth wagon, loaded with luggage.

The curtains of the first wagon compartment were not down, and Joseph had his arm around Varya's waist and was feeding Varya cantaloupe slices with a toothpick.

It had to be said that Varya was indeed the prettiest woman in the town of Tasco at the age of twenty or so, and after being nourished by love on her wedding night, she added a touch of mature beauty today.

Ye Xia's heart started to ache vaguely again, so he had to take a deep breath and exhale slowly. He didn't like the feeling of heartache, but the feeling came and was out of his control, so he had to hope that the pain in his chest would be discharged by taking deep breaths.

Andre, who stood by the other window, was always on the lookout for Ye Xia's movements, as long as Ye Xia was impulsive and wanted to go down to snatch the bride, he would definitely be the first to stop Ye Xia and prevent him from sending himself to his death.

Tolya stood by the other window, his hands gripping the window pane tightly, gritting his teeth. If Ye Xia held back and didn't move, Tolya didn't move; if Ye Xia rushed downstairs to grab someone, Tolya would follow!

Across the street in a second-floor private room of another teahouse, Papa Yelofei and Uncle Bogdan were also each standing in front of the slightly opened window. More of their attention was focused on the three juniors across the street. The two elders had come prepared to protect their two sons who might impulsively do something stupid, even if their sons didn't know their father was across the street.

The carriage team finally walked out of the north gate, and the three young men on the opposite side never moved. Papa Yelofei turned around and said as he walked, "Old friend, we were young like them, but we have slowly matured into what we are now! Let's go, I haven't had breakfast yet!" ...

After saying goodbye to Andrei and Tolya, Ye Xia slowly walked to the food market a little closer to the south gate, and while wandering around inside, he saw his mother guarding two baskets of lettuce and hawking them to people passing by.

"Uh-huh? Mom, I didn't expect to see you here!" Ye Xia forced a smile and greeted her mother.

Alina collected the money, grabbed two handfuls of lettuce and shoved them at the grocery shopper, then heard her son's voice, looked up to see the rightful owner of the voice, and said with a smile on her face, "Yeha, come on, sit down for a while!"

Alina stood up and tried to offer her small bench to her son.

Ye Xia pushed the small bench back to her mother, "Mom, you sit. I'll squat for a bit, I'll go over to buy something later! By the way, how's the lettuce selling?"

Mothers are always happiest when talking to their sons.

"Nah, look, both baskets have been sold half each, so I guess, in another hour or so, they'll be sold out. I made an appointment with your father, he'll pick me up here at twelve o'clock. We'll go back together then." It was hard for Alina to stop when she opened her mouth.

"Pops is here too?" Ye Xia probably guessed that her parents had come to town together today on a rare occasion, most likely because they were also afraid that she would have to make the brainless move of bride snatching again today.

"Right. You're not home to accompany me out today, so I'll call your old man then!" Alina only stated the apparent reason, not the actual one.

"Hehe," on talking too much and looking for reasons, Ye Xia really can't compare to his own old mother, "Mom, I've thought about it in the past two days, I'm going to try to make some snacks for sale as well, for one thing, I want to earn some money to buy a horse; for another, I also want to earn more money for you and dad, our family will eat better and live better."

Ye Xiaotian regretted not being able to realize his wish of being reborn in a rich family. If he was rich, richer than Joseph's family, maybe Varya married him, Ye Xia, instead of Joseph, "Maybe Varya didn't marry Joseph for the money either, but with the money I have, I can at least make my parents' life better." Ye Xiaotian (Ye Xia) made up his mind that he must make more money to make his parents, who had worked so hard for so many years, live a richer and easier life.

"If you have more money, you can eat more meat; if you have less money, you can eat less meat; if you eat more rice or bread, that is! It's enough to live in peace and health, to have shelter, food and clothing." Alina was very open-minded about money, after all, she was the one who had experienced that five-year Holy Demon War more than twenty years ago.

"I know," Ye Xia put a few packets of tea in a small basket by Alina's feet and picked up another small basket, "Mom, you keep an eye on the packets of tea I bought from Andrei for me, I'm going to go and buy some eggs, spices and stuff."

Alina shouted at Ye Xia's back, "Son, the eggs are at home!"

"Not enough!" Ye Xia responded without looking back ...

Ye Xia sat in front driving the carriage, and in the carriage wagon sat Papa Yelofei and Old Mother Alina.

Children are always children in the eyes of their mothers, so it does not matter that children's things are rummaged through by their mothers; children have no secrets before their mothers.

At the moment, Alina was rummaging through the small basket in the carriage, checking out the eggs and condiments that Ye Xia had bought at the food market earlier, and asking a question or two every now and then.

"Son, I told you there were eggs in the house, why did you buy so many?"

"Not enough. When we get back to the village, you and I will go to the neighbors and ask them to buy all the eggs they are willing to sell."

"Do you eat that much?"

"You'll know by the end of the night."

"And salt, soy sauce, cinnamon, allspice, and pepper. Son, do you want to learn how to make soup?"

"You'll see by the end of the night."

Papa Yerofei listened to his wife's conversation with his son, one sentence after the other, and smiled without interrupting.

Back home, Ye Xia first with his parents ate lunch, and then Ye Luo Fei old man went to herd cattle, while Ye Xia, it is all the family's basket of vegetables are loaded on the carriage, asked his mother to accompany him to the village "scurrying".

After asking all fifty households in the village, the six vegetable baskets on the carriage were filled with eggs. The money on Ye Xia was spent, and Alina's money from selling vegetables today was also spent.

Alina privately worried that his son is not because the head was knocked over, or just lost love, and the brain messed up messy shopping, but to see him treating people, talking etiquette are still normal, so still hard-headed, with a smile to accompany him to a family "scurrying".

At dinner, Papa Yerofei and Old Mother Alina looked at one of the several plates on the table. On this plate were three brown hard-boiled eggs. The eggs were ugly, the shells were broken with many cracks, and although they were still steaming hot, the appearance hardly aroused one's appetite.

Alina asked skeptically, "Son, a good egg cooked like this, is this edible?"
