The Eden Federation

Space. 2489AD. Eden Command Ship.

Solemn faces covered the large monitor of a slim man. Despite his slim stature and the round glasses that lay on his nose, no one in the same room as him would dare to directly look at him. An odd mix of fear and respect, or, rather, respect driven by an immense fear.

One of the faces in the monitor spoke first. Normally, the volume they used would be considered as nothing more than a whisper, but everyone present felt that in the presence of this slim man, even such a voice was too loud.

"Sir. We have successfully incapacitated all of the bugs' ships. Only the command ship has been untouched, just as you had ordered."

Even with the fear of the commander, the officer who spoke first spoke with a heavy disdain for the Jurian species. Predictable when looking at how quickly they were defeated.

"Good, good. Prepare to send boarding parties to gather the surrendered bugs." The slim man in charge seemed to think for a second before continuing, now addressing the officer who had first spoken to him. "Chief Morello, Bring your ship down to the small sphere of gas below us. I'll give you the opportunity to rescue the poor souls that have been taken advantage of by these damned things. Consider this the reward for speaking first."

At this, the commander disconnected from the video feed with the various ship admirals. Only then did the remaining officers begin to let out the breaths they had been holding.

A large smile covered the face of the one called Chief Morello. Despite the smile coming from a place of true happiness due to the reward she had received, the large scar that reached from her mouth through her nose and hooking into her left eye made her seem extremely menacing to all those witnessing her elation.

Despite the immensity of such a reward, there were no looks of envy from the remaining officers. Such a prize meant being noticed by that terrifying slim man. They would much rather leave that recognition to one of the more experienced and accomplished officers like that of Chief Morello.

After remaining behind for just a few more seconds, officers began to leave the video feed to carry out the orders given to them.

Aboard the large Eden fleet ship known as the Golden Hind, a muscular brunette towered over her subordinates as she issued the commands to bring her ship deep into Jupiter's atmosphere.

As the 'landing' party is going to recover the human miners, they must get deep enough so that the mining ships can safely land in the fleet ship's hangers. Without any solid land, the best they could do to recover the enslaved humans is to broadcast a signal throughout the planet and wait. For any remaining mining ships that were unable to return, smaller recovery parties were sent out to bring them back.

When the Jurians had just taken over the human race of Earth, one of the first things they had to do was implant translation chips into the necks of all of the humans. It was a given that language was necessary for orders to be issued and received, and the clicking of the Jurians was nowhere near similar to the human tongue.

The translation chip is commonplace throughout the entire galaxy, with so many civilizations originating from every nook and cranny, it was only natural that a universal shared language was impossible.

The level of technology and intelligence throughout the galaxy, however, made it easy for something as simple as a translation chip to be developed and mass-produced.

Upon gathering the few billion remaining humans onto the Golden Hind, Chief Morello began to broadcast her face and voice across the ship.

Seeing and hearing the commander for the first time left a lasting impression upon the Earth humans. Though there had been a few who had been collected and gathered by the rescue parties of the Golden Hind, they had all yet to see the newly arrived forces.

The face in front of them was a very familiar face. It was the face they see in the mirror every morning.

It was at this moment that everyone amongst the former mining slaves knew that they had truly been rescued. The face in front of them was human.

***************

"Hello to all of you survivors. I am sure that today may have been quite the shock to you all. But know that now, you are as free as you once were.

The so-called Jurian Empire that has held you all captive for so many years is all but a remnant of what they once were. 200 years ago, we of the Eden Federation engaged in a small scuffle with another Sovereignty, and in the midst of the scuffle happened to wipe out the Jurian Empire that was fighting alongside them.

Along with the territory of the Jurians, we also received their resources and several pieces of information that led us here to you today. Upon learning that fellow humans were being held captive by a small fleet of Jurian bugs, it was at the initiative of my superiors that we moved to free you all immediately.

As a species of humans, and especially as a group of humans that have been introduced to the wider galaxy at the expense of their freedom, the Eden Federation would like to formally accept every individual here as citizens of our nation.

Jobs will be provided, a home will be provided, a new life will be found. In the time that it takes to wrap up the situation here until we return back to the system in which you all will live, we on the Golden Hind will distribute everything you will need for the immediate future.

Again, I would like to congratulate you all on behalf of the entire Eden Federation for your new found freedom.

Welcome to your new life."

At the end of the ship wide transmission, a sudden jolt indicated the ship was preparing to re enter space. As the Golden Hind exited the atmosphere of Jupiter, the transmission screens in every corner turned on once more, this time showing the space outside of the gaseous planet.

A scene of devastated ships, burning wreckage, and a single man was shown across the ship.

'Wait.... A Man?'

Nearly every recovered human had the same thought.

In front of the only remaining intact ship was a small, nigh imperceptible spec.

Only when the screen magnified on the spec did the viewers realize what it was. Though the image only intensified their confusion.

How was it possible that a human could survive in the void of space unprotected?

The face of this man was not a nice sight for the rescued humans. A growing frown shown on his face underneath the round eyeglasses.

The next event seemed to cement itself in the mind of everyone watching. A voice that should be impossible to be heard resounded out of the slim man's mouth, spreading across the void, echoing into every corner of this solar system.

"No more chances."

A simple statement. Followed by a raised hand that seemed to be swatting at the ship like one would swat at a fly.

Despite being miles from the remaining Jurian ship, the pressure from the man's hand first rippled through the void before completely tearing into the space near it. As the pressure reached the ship, in nearly the blink of an eye it engulfed it completely before shredding the hulking ship into millions of pieces.

A simple exertion of force. Yet the Jurian command ship, that rivaled the Golden Hind in size, was slapped into nonexistence.

Despite this shocking event, there was no fear found in the eyes of the formerly enslaved humans. The gazes of the freed humans only contained assurance and anticipation for the future.

This was what it meant to be a citizen of the Eden Federation.
