Rise of the demons

"What's going on?" asked a puzzled Connor.

"I'm scared!" said Kat.

As she clung to Brendan's arm but he managed to shrug her off.

Kat frowned.

She would have been embarrassed but luckily no one was paying her any attention.

Wasn't she there for him while Brendan paced outside Charm's apartment that night.

Unable to get inside Charm's bedroom because Lola said firmly, "no boys allowed on this side."

She was the one that kept him abreast of the situation.

Running back and forth between Lola and Brendan to give him updates on Charm's condition.

Had she not comforted him, staring down at Brendan as she cradled his head in her lap last night.

His heart had leapt with joy when she told him, "Lola, said that Charm opened her eyes briefly. Lola won't send her to the hospital on the mainland. Charm's going to be okay."

Kat had been confused by the tears that swelled his eyes, she wiped it away with her fingers.

Surprised that he would shed tears for a girl who he had only just met and spent less time with Charm than Kat had.

His heart raced, he reacted with joy.

Showing his apparent care for a mere slip of a girl who he hardly knew.

The world wasn't fair.

Kat saw him first and she felt like Charm had stolen Brendan's affection away from her.

"I long to see her sweet face," he whispered as he gazed up into Kat's haughty face.

Kat doted on him.

Beautiful and proud, the pampered only child of the privileged but it was not her lovely face that weighed heavily on his mind.

All Brendan could think about was Charm, a different face from hers.

In his mind Charm was cute and shapely.

With bluish black hair like a stormy night sea and eyes that glowed like luminescent waters.

Her eyes closed again and jealousy raged inside.

Kat knew that if she ever got a chance to get rid of Charm she wouldn't hesitate to eliminate the competition.

Then a loud trumpet sound drowned out the dean's voice but jarred Kat's thoughts back to the present.

The earth started to tremble beneath their feet.

Each tremble intensified as cries of 'earthquake!' filled the air competing with the sound of the loud trumpet.

How was that sound being blasted so loudly?

Where was it coming from?

That's the question on everyone's lips but no one has the time to voice their inner thoughts as they ran in a state of panic.

No sooner had Charm got to her feet, she found herself being pushed outside the cafeteria.

Soon she found herself separated from Brendan.

Whose grip on her hand could not stop the stampede engulfing them.

Everyone from A, B and C campus headed straight for the auditorium, the designated disaster point for school.

The newcomers have no choice but to follow the massive crowd.

The evacuation point was supposedly able to hold the entire school safely in one area.

Now that theory would be tested today.

Not everyone made it to the auditorium.

With each tremor, cracks started to appear then the largest crack opened.

A loud whoosh!

Followed by gray smoke similar to that of an erupting volcano poured out of the cracks in the earth.

Fierce winds from out of nowhere blew away the ominous gray smoke and revealed a massive swarm of locusts.

That emerged from the deepest pits of the earth.

Once the locusts come out of the earth they head for the sky.

Where they assembled, like huge dark clouds that blocked out the sun in the sky.

These were clearly not normal locusts, their bodies were huge the size of vultures.

With half human half insect like faces on heads that seem to rotate like a scene from the movie 'the exorcist.'

Nothing breathing escaped the range of their vision as they sought to destroy everything in their wake.

Finally, their leader had been released from the abyss, to lead his underlings to freedom.

He would rather die than return to the dark and chaotic prison from which they had been released.

As they gathered in the air they waited for the arrival of their leader, the largest locust of them all.

The Locust General.

Locusts normally only attack plants but these ignore the surrounding vegetation and head straight for the humans.

Their power that had been confined and restrained while imprisoned in the abyss was now unleashed to terrorize the humans as the world nears its end.

They started swooping down on the students that were not fast enough to make it into the auditorium before the locusts made their presence known.

In the crush of sweltering bodies no one is safe from the sound of the trumpet.

Some students could not run to the auditorium even if they wanted to, many had started falling to the ground while holding their ears.

Writhing in excruciating pain on the ground.

As it felt like their eardrums were going to explode.

Many of these unfortunate students were easing pickings for the locusts.

These demonic locusts that had been confined for what felt like a millennia were ravenous.

They devoured.

They feasted until their stomachs were misshapen.

Engorged with the flesh and blood of the unfortunate humans.

Gah.

The Locust General spat blood and chunks of meat on the ground.

Humans are disgusting, the General thought bitterly as he cleaned the meat off a femur.

Then he flung it away.

Not caring that the bone hit another locust causing it to fall from the sky in agony.

These humans were puny weaklings.

Devouring this entire school would not give him enough juice to get out of the realm of the bottom feeders.

He needed to get stronger if he was going to lead his minions to the next hierarchy.

Life for the humans as they knew it was about to come to an end.

They had no chance in the upcoming battle for earth.

It was then he sensed it, a seal was nearby, subtle but powerful, it beckoned to him.

His red eyes scanned the bloody zone, at first sight no sight of the seal.

He used his telepathy to send a command to all his minions, "a seal is here, bring it to me."

His mouth salivated, untapped the power of the seal was about to be broken as the human came in contact with his kind.

This seal could last him for a month or two, if he didn't get greedy and kept it alive.

He came lower to the ground in the search of the seal and that's when he laid eyes on her for the first time.

Beautiful, long black hair and blue eyes, running away from him.

Humans were so stupid.

Why do humans always run when they can't escape death, it's inevitable.
