IMOGEN'S POV
Fate had its way of playing its funny games. One second I was comforting Isaac as his mother was wheeled away to the emergency room and the other second, I heard my husband scream his brother's name while charging at us.
We were in public so I didn't expect him to get violent. But Elijah didn't seem to fucking care.
His fist immediately connected with Isaac's jaw before I even realized what was happening.
The impact made a sickening sound, and Isaac staggered back, his head snapping to the side. He stumbled, catching himself on the wall.
"Elijah!" My voice came out high and panicked. "What are you doing?"
I knew why he was reacting this way. What he must have seen or believed he saw.
He ignored me, his eyes fixed on Isaac. My brother-in-law touched his jaw, wincing. A trickle of blood seeped from the corner of his mouth, and my heart raced with fear and confusion.
