ELIJAH'S POV
The doctor hesitated, his eyes darting to a nearby chair. "Mr. Rossi, perhaps you should sit down for this."
I shook my head, tension coiling in my gut. "I'm fine standing. How bad is it, doc? Maybe... maybe you should talk to my mother about this instead. She's his wife, after all."
The doctor's brow furrowed. "Mr. Rossi, with all due respect, I am aware your mother has just as much right to know about your father's condition as you do. But... we men know this. Women are incapable of handling difficult news."
I sighed, running a hand through my hair. "You're right, I'm sorry. It's just... this is a lot. Please, just tell me what's going on."
The doctor nodded, his expression softening. "Your father's condition is more serious than we initially thought. The hypertension we've been treating him for has led to some severe complications."
My throat tightened. "What kind of complications?"
