ISAAC'S POV
I was cleaning up in the kitchen, my mind drifting to the events of the day. A sense of relief washed over me as I thought about Mom's recovery from her catatonic state and the long-overdue conversation I'd had with Dad.
Leaving the dishes half-done, I walked to Mom's room to check on her. She was fast asleep, her chest rising and falling with steady breaths. As I stood there, Vera joined me, her footsteps soft on the hardwood floor.
"It's surprising how quickly she recovered," Vera whispered, her eyes fixed on Mom's sleeping form.
I nodded, remembering the doctor's words. "The doctor said we just need to reintroduce her to her old life slowly, catch her up on everything she's missed."
Vera smiled, a hint of sadness in her eyes. "I guess that means you won't need me as a caretaker anymore."
"That's nonsense," I said, turning to face her. "I need your help more than ever."
