CHAPTER FOURTEEN: WISE TALKS WITH ROSA
“You know if you don’t want her as your partner, we can just talk to Ms. Nate” Samson said shrugging as if he knows how he can do it
I looked at Gabriel expecting him to talk but Mones talked instead
“Guy, how are you going to do that? Ms. Nate is a Latin woman and besides she is not from this side of our country” Mones said spoiling the morale
“Have you forgotten Josh’s father is the owner of this school? He is even our friend and we can just talk to Josh for help” Samson bragged
“Just like that” I said barging into their discussion irritated by the way the rude brats are talking as if they own earth that they are even staying in
“Who put your mouth in our discussion?” Samson asked looking at me in some kind of disgust expression. If looks could kill, I could have been gone by now. Mones and Gabriel as well turned to look at me
“Who will stand to hear you bragging about something you don’t even have right to it. It disgusts me” I said speaking out my mind
“Guys, just stop it…” Gabriel said tired of hearing us talk to each other in an ill-mannered way “… I can’t answer your question on whether I like her as my partner or not because I find it annoying for you to ask that type of question. You don’t have to do that and if it is because of her looks that you hate her, look again” Gabriel said giving Samson a piece of his mind before leaving the class
I find Gabriel’s last two words making my stomach to be filled with butterflies. Did he just support me? Or was he doing it out of his own will?
I looked at him as he left the class
“I can’t believe Gabriel, I find it hard to call him my very best childhood friend” Samson said leaving the classroom as well with Mones maybe, to catch up with Gabriel
As soon as they left the class, Rosa and her new found friends entered the class
I looked away and turned to the already prepared Margaret
“Let’s go!” she said as we walked towards the classroom back door
“Didn’t you hear what Gabriel said? That was very supportive of him but I find it hard to believe” Grace said as she opened her school bag to get something from it
“Rosa…” I called her as I turned to face her and her new found annoying friends
“Yes?” she answered as she faced me along with her new found annoying friends
“Why are you calling her?” I heard Margaret whisper to me
“Why didn’t you come to class today?” I asked as a normal friend would do
“Why are you asking? How is it your business?” Kate answered for her and that really offended me to be sincere
“Are you Rosa? Did I mention your name, Kathahrine?” I asked not minding if I pronounced her name wrongly
“Girl, you better watch the way you pronounce my name because my name could buy your house” she bragged and then I ignored her, facing Rosa once again
“Rosa, are these the friends you want to be following?” I asked pointing at Grace and the so called Katherine
“Friends are friends” Rosa answered me plainly
“Rosa, friends are friends doesn’t mean you make anyhow friends” I said to her wisely as a good friend would advise her friend
“Christiana, didn’t you look at your friend before looking at mine?” she asked pointing at the innocent Margaret
“At least, my friend and I are able to attend class and do the right thing at the right time” I answered Rosa’s meaningless question
“Stop talking l…”
“… Rosa, where were you when class was ongoing?” I asked again interrupting Grace from talking
“Why do you want to know?” Rosa asked looking at me in a way that says ‘why do you care?’
“Today is your second day in this school and you didn’t even bother to show your face at three subject teachers teaching. How do you think it will reflect in your record book?” I asked her speaking from my mind as a true friend would
“I can keep it up with my performance in my tests and exams” she answered swiftly, bragging at the same time about it
“Funny thing to say but it is not all subject teachers that records tests, some record attendance” I said to her speaking from experience since that it what our homeroom teacher did
“How does she know?” Grace asked Rosa who is busy looking at me
“Well unfortunately, one of the subject teachers did that today and guess who did that? Ms. Nate” I responded to Grace question and Rosa’s unspeakable expression
The three of them became speechless and I turned to face towards the back door
“You better not miss class again, Rosa and the two new found friends” I said calling Grace and Katherine by the name I formed for them except that I didn’t put in the ‘annoying’ word
And with that, I left for the door with Margaret following me
“You really do care for your friend” Margaret said as we both turned to our left walking towards the cafeteria since we are both hungry
“I guess I do since, she had been my friend so long” I answered sincerely
“Do you think she thinks the same about you through her behavior towards you?” Margaret asked looking at me with so many thoughts about my friendship with Rosa, I don’t blame her.
“I don’t care for as long as I know she is being influenced by those two annoying girls she calls her friends and again, this is not the first time she will be behaving like that towards me” I answered her thinking about the past when Rosa sometimes leave me alone and go walk with her friends or sometimes with Jake
Jake is friendly but we didn’t have enough chitchats face to face except on social media just because Rosa avoids him talking to me sometimes
