Liam stood over the remains of the Titan Mech, his breath steadying. The battlefield was silent, save for the distant crackling of broken neon signs. Kai stood beside him, still gripping his weapon tightly, scanning for any more threats.
The system had already spoken to Liam moments before, marking his Override synchronization at 12%, and now, for the first time, he truly felt the change within himself.
But there was no time to reflect.
A low, eerie growl came from the alleyways beyond the wreckage.
Kai tensed. "Tell me that's not another mech."
Liam's eyes flickered in the darkness, scanning the shifting shadows. No, this wasn't mechanical. It was something else.
Then they emerged.
A pack of wolves—no, something close to wolves. Their bodies were lean but reinforced with cybernetic implants. Their fur flickered between natural strands and metal plating, their claws clicking against the concrete like sharpened daggers.
There were at least six of them, their glowing red eyes locking onto Liam.
The largest one in the center—a dominant alpha—let out a mechanical snarl.
"They're scanning us," Liam realized, his Override pulsing slightly in response.
The wolves weren't just attacking mindlessly. They were evaluating. Calculating.
Then, as if receiving an unseen command, they lunged.
The Battle for Dominance Liam reacted instantly, dodging to the side as one of the wolves snapped at him. Kai barely avoided another, rolling backward.
"Override Activated."
Liam felt the surge of energy within him—the same energy that had allowed him to control the Ravager before.
But these wolves weren't mindless like the mech.
They had instincts.
A challenge.
Liam's eyes flickered as he focused on the alpha. If he wanted control over the pack… he had to take down the leader.
"Override: Tamer's Will."
His ability pulsed outward. The wolves hesitated, their mechanical instincts conflicting with their primal nature. But the alpha resisted, its red eyes burning with defiance.
It wasn't enough.
Liam needed to prove himself.
Facing the Alpha The alpha wolf lunged straight for Liam, claws slashing forward. Liam barely ducked, countering with a swift strike using his reinforced gauntlet. The wolf staggered but didn't fall.
Fierce. Strong. Unyielding.
But so was Liam.
He charged forward, gripping the wolf's metallic mane and forcing it into the ground. The beast howled, struggling, its pack members circling anxiously.Liam tightened his grip, pressing his forehead against the beast's. A battle of wills.
The Override pulsed again—stronger this time.
For a moment, there was resistance.
Then, something shifted.
The red glow in the alpha's eyes flickered—then changed to deep blue.
The pack stopped attacking.
They watched as their leader stood, its posture lowering slightly in submission. Then, one by one, the other wolves followed, their eyes shifting as well.
Liam exhaled, stepping back.
"Pack successfully tamed. Override synchronization: 15%."
Kai, who had been standing frozen the entire time, let out a breath. "Holy—dude, did you just… take control of a wolf pack?"
Liam smirked, running a hand through his hair. "Looks like it."
Kai shook his head. "Okay, remind me never to piss you off."
The newly tamed pack of cybernetic wolves surrounded Liam, their mechanical tails swishing as they awaited his command.
And for the first time since entering this twisted game, Liam realized something—
He wasn't fighting alone anymore.
