Chapter 78 Luke has the wrong windshield 

He turned around and drove off, came back to the barrier and waved him through. He accelerated, stopped briefly at the gas station to fill up and get some new deodorant. He stopped in the parking lot in front of a high-rise building, looked at his cell phone with the address, got out and walked to the entrance. He saw Saskia Tante's company logos on the building. He set the emergency call to his grandfather on a watch. He reached the entrance, where two security guards were standing. They stared at him through their visors.

"Tach, I'm here to pick up Mrs. Tennigton. "

The security guard reached for his sleeve.

"Ma'am, we have a male asking for the young miss, nope, no match to her description."

He nodded and looked at Luke.

"Go ahead."

" Really thanks." 

Luke walked past him, shuffled to the elevator and pressed the button. He looked at the holologo flickering in front of him. He saw office workers staring at him, he lit a cigar after knocking, got into the elevator puffing away, pressed the top button and took a drag. He was surprised that it took a while for the elevator to arrive. When the door opened, he was greeted by an entrance hall made of wood, steel and natural stone. A woman was sitting at a small table and staring at him.

"Hi, I'm here for Mrs. Tennington. " She gestured to the door. Luke went over, opened the door and behind it was a very, very large office. It was surrounded on three sides by panes of glass, so you could look out over the city. It was expensive and spartanly furnished. There was a single desk near the windows. Luke walked closer and looked at the art.

When he got about ten feet in front of the desk, the desk chair turned and Calara looked at him. 

"I don't know them, who are they?"

"I'm picking up Saskia, where is she?" he puffed on his cigar. 

Calara looked at him arrogantly.

"Do they do that? "

Luke was tired of being arrogant lately. 

"Yes."

She wrinkled her nose arrogantly. Luke grabbed the table and pulled one side to the side, metallic screeching sounding as the table ripped out of the floor, taking power cables with it. He came towards her and she stared at him in horror.

"What are they doing?"

"Make way, their arrogance is getting on my nerves. I'm not one of their employees who bats an eyelid when they want something. So where is she?"

"You have no idea!" 

"That's right, I'm not interested either. I just want my wife in my house and if I remember correctly, it was you who got Saskia to look for something in the armed forces." He blew a cloud in her face.

"I want Saskia back and if I have to. I'll turn to someone with more influence than me."

"Tz, there's no such person." 

Luke grabbed her chair and turned it to face the window.

"No? Have you forgotten that the moment people die, everything stays here? " He let go of her so she would turn around again. 

" Why do you want to break it? " 

" I want her to know where she belongs! " Luke stared at her.

" I'll tell you where her place is, with me and not with a sex toy."

Her eyes widened. 

" What did you say!!!" 

" I wasn't wrong. Where is her place? "

" I'm not giving her up! "

Luke was fed up, he slammed his fist against the window pane, right next to Calara's head, which shattered as a result. She stared at him with fear-filled eyes. 

Luke gasped for air, reaching for his cell phone.

"Oh, are you calling someone? " came mockingly.

He dialed Alex's number.

"Yes, it's me. She told me to call."

"Then it's her?"

"Yes."

"I'm coming. "

Luke puts the cell phone away. 

"Oh, did you call your mom?"

Luke took a drag on his cigar. 

"No, before I lose my patience and smash your face in, throw your body out the window. Did I call sex toys?" 

"Don't call me that! "

" But sex toy, that's all you are in my eyes. That's why I called the second most powerful person I know."

" Ha! I'm the most influential!" she shouted mockingly.

A noise sounded from the outer office and the secretary cried out. The door was pushed open and Alex entered.

"Cala, jammer? Are you serious?"

Cala backed away. 

"No!"

Alex came closer. She backed away further.

"No, that's impossible, the base is more than half an hour away by car." 

Alex grinned. 

"Cala, did you really think your company was the most modern? Please and now come here."

She made a small noise and snuggled up to him.

"What's gotten into you, Cala, to pull such cheap tricks? "

" My uterus is infertile. The eggs in my ovaries are. Henry didn't have a stallion back then and I started something with an actor and I used your foster mother back then, that's how Saskia was born, the company flourished and my brother got a job and money for it..." 

"And why are you panicking so much? "

Cala looked at him. "Your sister's stupid, she'll just about do as a supervisor, and the ..."

She pointed at Luke.

Luke looked at Alex, who pulled up Luke's file, and laughed.

"Wonderful," he called up Saskia's file.

Cala glared at Alex. 

" What's supposed to be good about that!!!" 

" You're part of the Miles Corporation now Cala!"

She slumped down in her chair and just looked in front of her.

" Cala? " 

She pressed a button. "Bring her up," she said in a monotone. 

" Then I'm out of a job? " 

" No, you're part of it, which means you're responsible for ensuring that the media empire continues to expand mercilessly. "

She looked at him. " Then give me channels and I'll hand over the channel companies."

" You can do that."

" How am I supposed to ..."

" I'm doing the Ai , with the system changeover. Just come by tomorrow morning and we'll talk more. Until then, you can think about the current market again. "

Two security guards led Saskia, who was wearing an expensive black office dress, inside. Cala pressed another button and handcuffs crashed down on Saskia. She ran to Luke and hugged him. Luke put his hand on her head.

"Your cell phone?" 

Cala threw it on the table. 

" Here..." Saksia took it. 

She looked from Luke to her. 

Hugged her, which upset her.

 "I still love you. Even if I don't know how to talk to you ..."

Cala looked at her. 

"How about just Cala ..."

Saskia hugged her, he took her hand. Luke turned around, Alex was already gone. They both walked to the elevator. Not until the door was closed and it was going down.

"Did you have to say that?" she looked at Luke.

He grinned. 

"Yes, I did. The look on his face was priceless. "

He gave her a kiss.

She smiled and looked at her clothes.

"Yours doesn't look too bad either."

She looked at her.

"Yes."

The door opened and they both stepped outside. The holologo flickered and changed, it was actually the same as before, except at the bottom it said: / Subsidiary of Miles Corporation /. 

Luke looked at the logo. Saskia saw it too.

"What does that mean? " 

"That you don't have to worry about them anymore."

" Yes, but Miles Corp. Is the biggest company. " 

He gave her a kiss and pulled her with him. 

" Where are you?" 

Luke pointed to the BMW.

She walked towards him and looked at the car.

" What about the Ford? " She looked at him.

" It's in the garage. " He opened the car.

" But why this one? It must be expensive."

Luke grinned.

"No, it was cheap, it belonged to a gang and when it tried to break out of our house, well..."

He sat down in the car, Saskia made herself comfortable in the passenger seat and felt the leather. 

"And we're keeping it? And can I drive it too? "

"Yes. My grandpa borrows it from time to time."

She thought about it. 

"But first I have to do my cleaning rag ... " 

Luke grinned. 

"So, do we want to go home or go out for something to eat?" 

She thought about it. 

"Something to eat wouldn't be bad and maybe some groceries. "

" Okay, what do you want? "

" A burger." 

" A special one? "

" The northern one."

Alex grinned, started the engine and sped off, nudging Saksia, who had dozed off, as he drove into the parking lot.

"In or...?"

Saskia yawned, gave him a sleepy look and looked around.

" We're going inside. "

He parked the car and they both got out. She took Luke's hand and they went inside, at this time of day it was even busier than Luke had experienced earlier. They both got in line. He saw that Saskia was staring ahead. Luke saw the trio again. 

They came closer. Lisa gave Ultra a friendly look.

"Welcome to Planet Burger! What would you like to order? "

Luke leaned towards Saskia.

"I don't care what you order," he said quietly. 

Saskia smiled.

" We'll have the deluxe menu twice with a Coke each. Salty chips with mayonnaise on the side. No ice in the drinks. "

"For 0.5 points, you can change the menu to a maxi menu."

" No, but 2 hunter's salads with French dressing. All to go."

She smiled, with the makeup and styled hair she looked more like Cala.

"Understood ma'am, would you like to pay cash, card or imprint? "

She looked at Luke.

"With fingerprint," she placed her finger on the scanner, it positively quivered.

"Thank you."

Luke said to Lina, who was standing at the drive-thru counter, and Leo, who was loading food onto trays or putting it into bags.

"Your order will be brought to you shortly, please wait over there. " 

So they had to take three steps to the side for the next person's turn. Leo heaved two bags onto the counter in front of them with difficulty.

"Your order, ma'am, thank you for visiting Planet Burger. " 

Saskia smiled.

Luke grabs the two bags with one hand and lifts them effortlessly.

"You too," Saskia replied, turning and leaving. He followed her, lighting a cigarette as he walked.

"Sir, smoking is prohibited in our building," came from Leo. Luke was already at the door, puffing another cloud, they walked to the car. Saskia smiled and pulled the bags towards her."

"Uhh, they really didn't recognize us," she rummaged in the bags. "They forgot the mayo, Luke, get in the drive thru! "

He did, stepped on the gas and sped in, stopping at the order window.

"Welcome to Planet Burger, your order? You can give it to us verbally or enter it on the wall. " Lisa's voice rang out.

Saskia pushed her way over.

"We've just ordered from you and unfortunately you forgot to add mayonnaise, my husband can't do without it." 

"Oh, we're very sorry about that, please go to the front, we'll give you some. "

Luke drove on and came to the counter.

 Saskia was still half standing there. Held out her hand.

"Here you go, ma'am."

She reached for the mayonnaise.

"Thank you." Luke stepped on the gas and roared off. Saskia pulled back in her seat, smiling.

"Can I eat already?" She already had the chips in her mouth.

"Go on, what do we need for the fridge?"

Saskia thought about it.

"Okay, I'll get something while you eat." He stopped at the nearest grocery store, got out and picked up vegetables, bread, meat, sausage, a few drinks, paid and put them in the trunk. He got in again. She burped and thumped her chest. He started the car and drove on. 

"What were you doing there? "

"I wanted to see if the three of them were really working there, I heard from Sarah that she'd seen one of them there. And then when we were on the sports field. The three of them got together suspiciously. Bill said the three of them all had a thing with Ted." 

"Where is he anyway?" 

" He's in jail, once for the windshield on the Ford, then for illegal gambling and tax evasion. "

"Not bad," they reached the gate and the guard waved him to stop, he looked inside.

When he had finished, Saskia was standing there in her jogging bottoms and T-shirt, rummaging in her bag. He grinned and changed his own clothes, grabbed the salad and dressing that was still there and made himself comfortable next to her on the couch. They watched something at random. Until Saskia dozed off. Luke switched off the TV, turned off the light, carried her upstairs, laid her on the bed, put her mask on and lay down with her. It wasn't long before she began to snore, he smiled and closed his eyes. 

The morning was heralded for Luke by the relentless ringing of the doorbell. He blinked in confusion. Saw only notes next to him that read. Be at Jannet's.

Luke got up, tore off Makse and threw it on the bed, staggered to the door.

Opened the door, scratched his stomach. Leo stood in front of him.

"Good morning."

She looked at him scrutinizingly.

"Why are there streaks on your face?"

Luke waved her in, shuffled into the kitchen, Saskia had tidied up. He made himself a coffee. 

 "I have to wear a mask at night." 

Leo looked around.

"It's the first time I've seen the inside of the house. "

Luke pressed the brew button and yawned.

" We only have the basic equipment."

" Luke why are you doing all this ?" Luke lifted coffee cups out of the machine and looked at them.

" Huh? "

" Why are you doing all this Luke? "

" I'm an egotist Leo " He sipped his coffee, shuffled to the terrace, sat down on the steps leading down to the garden. Leo sits down next to him. Luke lights a cigarette. 

"I've wanted a girlfriend since I was 14, actually, and at boarding school. There weren't any and the ones I was interested in were taken."

Leo looked at him.

"What about Claudia, who you were with in year 7? And with Lina? And who was taken?" 

"Dumped me after the first date because of someone from the sixth form and who? Um, you Leo. Only your friendship is more important to me."

Leo looked at him in silence.

"And Saskia I didn't make any plans or get my hopes up. "

" But you worked her so hard and invited her directly, the girls took that as a come-on." 

" I just wanted to show her my family. " He took a drag on the fag and blew out a cloud. 

"But Luke ... we all thought you were going to be a graphic designer. "

He looked at her and smiled.

"Leo, I never knew what I wanted to be. Ah, here comes Sarge."

He blew out a cloud, Sarge came hobbling up with the picture. 

"Hey Sarge!" came from Leo. 

"Good morning," he handed Luke the picture. He looked at Sarge. 

" Not good? "

" Yes, you did, but why the subject?"

" Was what was bothering me. Do you understand Sarge, especially ." 

Sarge squatted down and tossed his head.

Leo looked over at the two of them.

"Sarge, what are you two talking about?"

Sarge sighed.

So first they sent him to basic training camps for behavioral problems, crammed him with courses, and then when he had the EXO basic course, he was sent to war theaters for the first time. "

Leo looked at him in disbelief, Luke continued to fume. 

"You forgot about the deployments between courses," Luke commented, taking a drag on his fag.

" Leo, the new soldiers from today might see one or two. Most of the wounded and dead are in house-to-house combat. So, Luke's throat is broken from an EMP blast that fried his exo. But he was shot by two teammates who were working for someone else, hence this," the Sarge pointed to the wound on his temple.

"Luke took too much punishment from his family."

Sarge nodded.

Sarge looked at Leo. "The training courses were supposed to give you life experience before you jumped into the madness out there. Some learned nothing and stayed the same as they always were, some experienced something new, some saw a whole new world and some changed completely. Look at Ted, no one would have thought he would have messed up so much. "

Luke stubbed out the butt in the flower pot filled with sand. Then he looked at the picture. 

"Leo?" 

"Yeah Sarge?"

" You should be more open with the other girls, I've gotten a few calls about you and Lina and Lisa cutting yourselves off." 

" Sarge... we're broke and want to buy Liz something... and then this with Ted, the dance fell through. "

" I'll dance with Saskia for you guys, then she can show off what she's learned. "

Sarge looked at Luke. 

" She just barely made it Luke. "

He nodded.

" Why Luke?"

" You'll see when the three brides unwrap my present." 

Sarge looked at him. 

" What Sarge, Jannet helped me pick it out."

He tossed her head.

"Let's practice then."

Luke nodded. Sarge stood up and left. Leo remained silent.

"Luke, why are you helping us?"

" You're friends, Leo."

" But ..." 

He patted her head. " Take the others and go celebrate with them Leo, let it rip with them. "

" Hhmm " She stood up and walked past Luke, leaning forward to look at him. 

"Luke?"

He looked up.

"Did you eat burgers yesterday? " 

"More like salad." 

"Hmm." 

Luke looked at him, tapped the tip of his nose.

"You're worried, Leo, what do you want to know?" 

She rubbed her nose.

" My dad said you had a fake windshield in your Ford. "

Luke stood up.

"He said if you came to the garage, he could change it."

" Good idea, I'll just get changed. "

He put the picture on the table and went upstairs to put on his BDU, came back down and Leo studied the few photos hanging on the walls.

" Why do you have the picture of me and Eddie here?"

" Those were the days Leo. "

Her eyes widened when she saw him in the BDU. Luke opened the fridge, grabbed an iced coffee and drank it.

"You really are ... "

Luke tossed the cups into the trash can. 

"Yup yup, with all the bells and whistles. "

"And what are you? I mean, my dad doesn't have rank, but he works over there and gets treated normally." 

Luke shuffled over to the garage. 

"Captain."

" Uh-huh ..." 

Luke walked into the garage and pressed the button for the garage door.

"And your father is safe? You told me it was the right window." 

Leo nodded, following him inside. 

"He only worked on those in his company at first."

He pulled a folder from a shelf and pulled out the receipt, then sat down in the Ford.

"Do you have somewhere to go?"

" Uh, actually to work and Lisa wanted to ... "

" Come on, I'll drive you, then Lisa will save herself the trip."

She got in, Luke immediately stepped on the gas and thundered towards the driveway to the base.

"Ah, the gentleman's out in the Ford again ... " 

"Yes. I'm told the guys at the garage fitted me with the wrong windshield."

"I see, and why do you have Miss Burger Planet in the car?" 

Luke looked at Leo with a grin, who was turning red.

"She has to go to work so that you and the others have something to eat."

"I'll just go on then, will you come back after?"

"Yes. I want to have the windshield checked in the workshop here on the premises. Why?"

"I will." 

He accelerated again and pulled up next to the burger restaurant. Leo held her stomach as she got out.

"Let me know if you need a ride back," he didn't wait for an answer, but turned around and sped off again.
