Out of Sight,still in Mind.

"Anne." I sang for the third time since I entered the guest house.

I have a tray of strawberries in hand. Anne was way too sensitive, and since her pregnancy calls for so many delicacies, I have no trouble pampering her after every outburst.

She should be grateful. I'm not always this generous; the least she could do was reply back.

"Anne!" I yelled this time. The guest house is big, but not that big. She should be able to hear me and answer just as loudly.

I float into the bedroom just to see Anne curled up in a ball and investing in a book I don't remember giving her.

"So you were in here all along." I said, my tone painted with accusation.

"Uh-huh,she replies, her nose still looking into the book.

I place the strawberry tray on the side table and try to keep a smile as I crouch over her.

"What are you reading?"

"The House of Thorns,she replies.
