Chapter 4: Unveiling the Mystical World

(Marcus's PoV)

Marcus sat in the grand duke's office, trying to process everything he had learned. The weight of his responsibilities felt suffocating—monsters at the borders, a duchy in ruins, and a family legacy he had yet to fully comprehend. But the most daunting challenge of all wasn't simply the politics or the threats. It was the sheer power structure of the world.

In the world of Solstern, energy flowed through every living thing, through the earth, the air, even the water. The people called this energy Essentia, a mystical force that could be tapped into, harnessed, and manipulated by those who had the talent. It was the foundation of their magic system, and those who could control it were feared and revered.

The vast majority of the population could only sense Essentia, its presence a subtle hum in the background of their lives. But a small, elite group known as Essentia Adepts could actively manipulate it. Adepts were born with a unique gift: the ability to channel the energy of the world and bend it to their will. Some were born with greater talents than others, and their abilities varied widely—each adept manifested different affinities, known as Essentia Disciplines.

There were four primary disciplines that governed the use of Essentia in the empire:

1. Elementalists

The most common and well-known of the Essentia Adepts were the Elementalists. These individuals had the power to control and manipulate the natural elements—fire, water, earth, and air. Each Elementalist had an affinity for one of these elements, though the rarest among them could wield multiple.

Elementalists formed the backbone of the empire's military forces, their abilities used in warfare, city defense, and even agriculture. A fire adept could conjure flames to burn down enemy fortifications, while a water adept could summon rain to nourish the crops during times of drought. They were both soldiers and vital members of society, balancing destruction and creation.

2. Arcanists

The Arcanists were perhaps the most mysterious and least understood of the Essentia Adepts. They specialized in the manipulation of pure, raw energy—Essentia itself. Through complex rituals and incantations, they could weave spells that altered reality in subtle but powerful ways. Arcanists were capable of creating protective barriers, crafting illusions, and even bending space to teleport short distances.

While their powers were not as overtly destructive as the Elementalists, Arcanists held great influence over the imperial court and were often employed as advisors to powerful nobles. Their ability to manipulate reality gave them insight into the nature of the world that few others could comprehend.

Marcus had vague memories of the Arcanists who had visited his family's court—cryptic, secretive individuals whose eyes always seemed to glow with an otherworldly light. They had never felt entirely human to him, and in many ways, they weren't. Their deep connection to Essentia had altered them, making them something more...

3. Conjurers

The Conjurers had the rare and dangerous ability to summon and bind creatures from beyond the physical realm. Using ancient rites, they could pull forth beasts and spirits from the Essentia Veil, a plane of existence where creatures of pure energy resided. These summoned creatures could serve as allies in battle, protectors of cities, or even servants to their summoners.

Conjurers were highly respected but also feared. Their power over the creatures of the Veil was tenuous, and there were many tales of summoners who lost control of their conjurations, causing devastation. It was said that once a Conjurer bound a creature, they shared a bond—physical, mental, and spiritual—and if the bond broke, it could drive the summoner mad.

Marcus had never seen a Conjurer in action, but stories of their power had reached even his previous life's memories. It was said that in the north, powerful Conjurers summoned colossal beasts to guard the border against the relentless monster hordes.

4. Sentinels

Finally, there were the Sentinels, warriors whose connection to Essentia enhanced their physical abilities to superhuman levels. Unlike the other Adepts, who manipulated Essentia externally, the Sentinels channeled the energy into their bodies, increasing their strength, speed, and resilience. They were often employed as bodyguards, knights, or elite soldiers, feared for their near-invulnerability in combat.

Sentinels could also enhance their weapons and armor, making them unbreakable or imbued with elemental power. It was said that the imperial family employed an entire guard of Sentinels to protect them—warriors capable of standing against an entire army.

The House of Aurelius had been known to employ Sentinels to protect the grand duchy, their unmatched strength vital in defending the borders from the monsters that ravaged the northern lands.

And Marcus's new memories told him that his family, The House of Aurelius, had long been recognized as one of the most powerful families in the empire because of their rare and unparalleled mastery over the **Essentia of Creation**. They are different from primary disciplines, this discipline is Unknown and most powerful path of Adepts like them there are some Noble families in Empire that comes under this discipline, where one could directly have affinities towards the concept of universe itself like space, life, death , etc. This path doesn't have a known name and people just calls them as Divinities.

But his family's legacy was not the only one of significance. The **Imperial Family** possessed an equally formidable gift: control over **Time** and **Light**, making them the ultimate adversaries.

---

In Solstern, the manipulation of **Essentia** was divided into different disciplines, each family or bloodline often inheriting a unique affinity. But even within these rare bloodlines, there were varying degrees of power. The House of Aurelius was unique because of its connection to the **Essentia of Creation**—a concept that went beyond mere elemental control. It was a power to **bring forth something from nothing**, a manifestation of will that allowed its user to shape reality itself.

---

### **The Power of Creation**

The **Essentia of Creation** was not just a gift; it was a legacy, passed down from generation to generation in the Aurelius family. It was far beyond what most Adepts could achieve, allowing its wielders to command the very fabric of reality. Unlike other disciplines that focused on manipulating existing forces—fire, water, earth, or air—creation wasn't bound by such limitations.

Marcus's father had been one of the most skilled wielders of this power. He had shaped the duchy itself—fortresses had risen from the ground, seemingly born from the earth, as if he had molded the very landscape like clay. He could create structures, weapons, and barriers that were unbreakable, all formed from the essence of his own will.

Creation was about more than just constructing physical objects; it was the ultimate power of **life and matter**. His mother often used to say, "Creation is not just about making things—it's about making **meaning**." The grand duchy itself was said to have been strengthened by this power, as if the very land Marcus stood on had been imbued with the will of his ancestors.

Yet, Marcus himself had no access to this power. Not yet. He felt the pressure of this legacy suffocating him. Every action, every decision he made as the new grand duke would be compared to the achievements of his father. The duchy was falling apart, and without the power of creation, he was unsure if he could rebuild it.

---

### **The Power of Space**

His mother's affinity was equally as legendary. While the **Essentia of Creation** was about shaping the world around you, his mother's power over the **Essentia of Space** had allowed her to control distances, dimensions, and reality itself. She could fold space, creating pathways where none existed, allowing her to travel vast distances in moments or summon objects from across the room with a flick of her wrist.

Her mastery of space had been an invaluable asset to the duchy. She had been able to create strategic advantages in battle by shifting entire armies across the battlefield, or by opening portals to evacuate civilians during a monster invasion. Her power wasn't just about war, however. She had used it to connect remote regions of the duchy, enabling trade routes and allowing isolated villages to thrive despite the harsh winters.

Marcus had vague memories of his mother using this power in front of him when he was a child. She would fold space in the grand halls of the duchy, disappearing from one end of the room and reappearing at the other in an instant. He could feel the faint hum of Essentia around her when she did this, as if the air itself responded to her commands.

---

### **The Imperial Family: Masters of Time and Light**

But if Marcus's family held the power of creation and space, the **Imperial Family** was equally, if not more, feared. Their control over **Time** and **Light** gave them an almost divine status in the empire.

Some members of the Imperial Family could manipulate time itself, bending it to their will. They could slow down moments in battle, freeze opponents in place, or even rewind time to correct mistakes. It was said that in the empire's history, there had been an emperor who reversed the course of an entire war by undoing a defeat and setting the stage for victory in a different timeline. Time manipulation was the rarest and most dangerous of all Essentia disciplines, and only a handful of imperial bloodline Adepts could wield it.

Others in the imperial bloodline commanded **Light**, using it both as a weapon and as a tool for diplomacy. The manipulation of light allowed them to create blinding flashes that could incapacitate armies or summon beams of concentrated energy that could cut through stone. Light Adepts were also known to create illusions, manipulating the way the world was perceived by bending the light around objects or people. Some could even turn invisible, cloaking themselves by bending light in such a way that they became unseen to the naked eye.

These abilities made the Imperial Family a force that could not be easily opposed. Time and light, when wielded together, were terrifying powers of dominance. With time, they could rewrite events. With light, they could control perception. Together, they held an iron grip over the empire, using these powers to ensure their supremacy over all other houses, including the Aurelius family.

---

### **Creation vs. Time and Light**

As Marcus pondered the power dynamics of the empire, he couldn't help but feel the immense weight of his own responsibilities. The imperial family had long been an enemy of the grand dukes, and with their mastery of time and light, they had the ability to destroy entire bloodlines with a mere flick of their power.

Marcus knew that his family's mastery of creation was perhaps the only thing that could stand against the imperial powers. **Creation** had its own superior nature, allowing its user to shape reality in ways that could counter the manipulation of time and light. His father had once explained that creation was the ultimate force because, while time could be manipulated and light could be bent, **what was created remained.** Time could not erase something brought into existence through pure will.

But to wield that power required knowledge, control, and confidence—things Marcus did not yet possess. He could feel the Essentia within him, but it was locked away, as if his body hadn't fully acclimated to the vast potential it held. The memories of Marcus Aurelius were slowly merging with his own, but the sensation of being disconnected from his family's legendary abilities haunted him.

---

As he stared at the pendant in his hand—the one that had belonged to his mother—Marcus closed his eyes and took a deep breath. He needed to understand not just the power of creation, but also the philosophy behind it. His parents had wielded these forces with wisdom and purpose, and he had to do the same.

The duchy was on the brink of collapse, monsters were gathering at the borders, and the imperial family would not hesitate to strike if they saw weakness. But Marcus knew one thing: the power of creation was not simply a tool for survival. It was a **legacy of renewal**, of building something greater than oneself.

And if he could unlock that power, he would do more than just defend the grand duchy. He would reshape its future, crafting a world that could stand against even the imperial family's control over time and light.

He would **create** a destiny of his own.
