Chapter 10:dinner with companion

Laura strolled gracefully behind the maid, who guided her with elegance towards the magnificent dining room. Together, they ventured through an seemingly endless corridor, filled with maids bowing their heads respectfully as Laura passed by. The hall was softly lit, torches flickering along the walls, casting dancing shadows that whispered secrets to those who passed. The air carried the allure of candles and ancient wood, tinged with a captivating hint of intrigue and history. The walls were adorned with vibrant paintings, showcasing scenes of splendor and captivating beauty.

As Laura progressed further down the hall, she noticed tall, ornate mirrors strategically placed at intervals, reflecting her from different angles. It seemed as though the hall was designed to make her acutely aware of herself with each step. However, she reminded herself that she was not simply a guest, but a significant presence in the mansion.

The maids moved gracefully and in harmony, silently dedicated to their tasks. Their inquisitive eyes stole glances at Laura, meeting her gaze before swiftly averting their own. It was as if they were evaluating her presence, silently wondering whether she would seamlessly integrate into their tightly knit society.

Approaching the dining room, the grandeur of the hall reached its peak. Two strong servants opened the doors, revealing the opulence that awaited within. The warm glow of crystal chandeliers illuminated the hall, while the table was adorned with exquisite china, delicate glassware, and gleaming silver cutlery. Countless candles flickered at its center, casting a mesmerizing glow.

Laura took her seat at the end of the table, and just as she sat down, the door opened and Leandro entered, clad in his black night robe. Laura's breath caught in her throat as she laid eyes on him. Leandro epitomized handsome sophistication. His dark hair was tousled, adding a touch of ruggedness to his otherwise impeccable appearance. The black night robe draped him in elegance and mystery, accentuating his strong physique.

As he approached the table, Laura could see his confident grace in every step. His piercing red eyes locked with hers, and a charming smile formed at the corner of his lips. The dim lighting cast a flattering shadow across his sculpted features, highlighting his strong jawline and high cheekbones. Leandro's presence commanded attention, emitting an irresistible magnetism that fascinated all who saw him.

The black night robe hugged his form, hinting at the contours of his body without being overly revealing. It was a perfect blend of refinement and sensuality, further enhancing his already captivating charm.

Laura desperately tried to convince herself that he was a monster, a vampire who fed on human blood and took innocent lives. With that thought, she managed to halt her mind from wandering.

"The dishes not to your liking? Or are you afraid of being poisoned?" Leandro said, seemingly joking but with a hint of seriousness in his tone.

Laura picked up her cutlery, "I wouldn't be afraid of you poisoning me, as you would face consequences from the council. Moreover, I don't believe vampires are foolish enough to kill me on the first day of our truce."

"First time seeing a human with a great brain and rational thinking," Leandro responded as he cut a piece of meat and placed it on Laura's plate. "I believe meat and fish will help humans fortify themselves. Eat more of it; I wouldn't want my wife looking drained like a vampire."

Laura's eyes twitched slightly. Back at the Duke's mansion, she was mainly accustomed to eating fish, as she was rarely given meat. As she looked at the meat before her, she wanted to smile, but she remembered she wasn't alone. "Are you suggesting that my family didn't do a good job with my diet?"

"Yes, I must say," Leandro responded without wasting a moment. "You are undeniably thin. When I first saw you, I thought the wind might blow you away. It's a shame. But as my wife, I have decided that you should look a certain way. I wouldn't want the council to have the misconception that I don't take care of you. Don't you agree, 'wife'?" Leandro emphasized the word 'wife,' making it clear that it served a purpose.

Laura took a deep breath, trying to maintain her composure. She knew that any display of vulnerability would only strengthen Leandro's power over her. She must remain strong, independent, and resilient.

"I appreciate your concern, Leandro," Laura said, his name flowing smoothly from her lips.

Leandro raised an eyebrow, his gaze fixed on Laura. His eyes seemed to search for any hidden emotions in her words, but she responded with confident poise.

"I understand that you have your own expectations for me as your wife," Laura continued. "But it's important for me to maintain my individuality and make decisions about my own body."

Leandro's lips curled into a smirk, clearly intrigued by Laura's defiance. "Oh, I have no doubt about your individuality, my dear. It is what caught my attention in the first place."

Laura took another deep breath, steeling herself against his charm. "I appreciate your compliments, but I must insist on having autonomy over my appearance and health."

Leandro's gaze softened slightly, a flicker of admiration crossing his face. "Independence is an admirable trait, Laura. I respect that. But as your husband, I also have a duty to ensure your well-being."

His words struck a chord within Laura. Despite her reservations about Leandro and his world, she couldn't deny the subtle concern in his voice. Perhaps there was more to him than just the rumors and her preconceived notions.

"I understand your intentions, Leandro," Laura replied, her voice softer this time. "But I ask you to trust in my judgment as well."

Leandro's eyes studied her for a moment, and then a small smile played on his lips. "Very well,as you wish."

And with those words, a flicker of hope kindled within Laura. Although she had initially feared her marriage to Leandro, perhaps there was a chance for understanding and compromise. As they continued their dinner, Laura couldn't help but feel an unexpected warmth growing within her heart. Perhaps, despite the darkness that surrounded them, she had found a glimmer of light in this mysterious vampire.
