I wake up thinking about what Reginald said to me last night. I lay in bed for a while, considering if there is anything I can even do. I decide that I’ll be on the lookout for black magic, but it’s not like I’ll even be here for a long time anyway. All I can do is try and fit in and help out. Besides, I'm too stubborn to back out of my deal with Shane. All I have to do is grit my teeth until this is over. Then, I can leave Shane and this pack house behind and never look back. 


I get up and dress in clothes I can get dirty because I’m helping harvest the crops today. I have a quick breakfast of eggs and toast, and walk out to the field that is beside the woods. One of the older elders shows me how to plant carrot seeds. I spend the morning dropping them into the freshly dug soil and covering the seeds back up.
