Inside the bomb shelter, it was crowded with people. Cries and shouts was filling the air, and occasionally, someone would commit suicide. The pressure from the aliens was too much for some to bear, leading them to choose death. Of course, there were also those who lost the will to live because their parents, spouses, or children died while fleeing, hence opting for suicide. The atmosphere inside the shelter was extremely oppressive. If it weren't for the military maintaining order, it might have turned into a hell of humanity's own making.
By now, hundreds of cities had been destroyed, and conservatively, about a billion people had died. The entire population of Earth was only around six billion. Now, one-sixth of the population was gone, and these were the cream of humanity. Losing these cities and populations had thrown the whole world into a massive regression.
