Chapter 286 : Dragon [2]

Onboard the Moby Dick, things were tense.

Whitebeard sat on his throne-like chair, staring hard at the Den Den Mushi in his hand. He had been trying to call Ace for hours now, but there was still no answer. The snail-phone just made a sad "purupuru" sound, with no one picking up.

"Damn that brat! Let me meet him again, I'll teach him a lesson, let's see if he forgets his snail behind again...!" Whitebeard growled, veins bulging on his forehead. By his attitude towards this, this doesn't seem to be the first time that this was happening.

Maki and Yuta didn't have any Den Den Mushi either... it was annoying him.

Marco stood nearby, looking worried. "We've been calling nonstop. He should've picked up by now. You think something happened?"

Whitebeard clenched his fist. "That bastard brat must have left his Den Den Mushi behind. Forget it, Kaido is already flying ahead, and we're stuck chasing behind on water!"

They were sailing at top speed, chasing the storm Kaido left in the sky as he flew toward Zou. But even the mighty Moby Dick couldn't match the speed of a flying dragon.

"I told him to always keep that snail on him," Whitebeard grumbled, clearly frustrated.

Whitebeard stared at the ocean ahead, his expression dark. "We'll keep moving. If Kaido lays even a finger on Ace or Yuta, I'll shake the whole sea."

The sea trembled slightly as if agreeing with him.

"I'm pretty sure we'll see waves even before we reach there. As much as Yuta lags behind in Haki compared to others, he excelled in training with you," Marco said and this brought a little smile to Whitebeard's face.

Sometimes even he forgets that Yuta, even after looking like a weak teenager, was the same guy who almost took down three admirals all by himself.

The sky above Zou turned dark. Storm clouds gathered as Kaido flew through the air in his dragon form, his massive body swirling through the sky like a hurricane. The roar that escaped his mouth shook the heavens and the earth below. The ground trembled beneath the feet of everyone in the Mokomo Dukedom.

Panic spread through the streets. Minks rushed to gather weapons, protect their families, and evacuate their homes. The peaceful land was thrown into chaos.

Inuarashi quickly organised the warriors. "Everyone, stay calm! Make defence lines fast, we have to hurry!" he shouted, though even he looked worried. Even together, they were not a match for one Kaido.

Suddenly, a loud booming sound resounded and a crashing came from beside them. Nekomamushi, the ruler of the night, who usually only came out after sunset, appeared with a growl. His eyes were sharp and furious. "What's going on here?! Why does it sound like the sky itself is falling apart?!"

He grumbled the moment he came, usually, he shouldn't be here, this was almost going back to their arrangement regarding the ruling of the Mokomo Dukedom. This could cause much trouble later.

We know that this was a big deal by just how even after Jack was causing a ruckus in the canon, in day only Inuarashi fought him and Nekomamushi only came out at night. This day and night ruling was a big deal.

Inuarashi glanced at him. "Kaido. He's come here..."

Nekomamushi's face darkened. "Why..."

Even the big cat was looking worried at this, temporarily, both dukes forgot about their rivalry.

Above them, Kaido let out another thunderous roar. He looked down at the tiny island perched on Zunesha's back with fury.

The minks tried to shoot arrows, throw spears, and even used electric attacks to hit Kaido. But nothing reached him. His massive body twisted in the sky, avoiding everything with ease. Even when something did hit, it bounced off without leaving a mark.

"We can't touch him!" cried one of the warriors. "He's too high...!"

Meanwhile, Momonosuke was holding his head tightly, stumbling around in pain. The loud voice inside his head wouldn't stop.

"I don't get it, there's nothing that seems to be wrong with his body. I can't understand." Chopper, constantly checking on him, was sweating now seeing he had no idea what was going on with Momonosuke.

"I... I can hear it," Momonosuke groaned. "A voice... a huge voice... it's Zunesha! He's speaking to me!"

Everyone around him stopped in surprise. Does that mean the Mountainous Elephant they were riding all this time—he's talking with Momonosuke?

"He's asking for permission... he wants to fight... but he says he cannot do it unless I say yes..." Momonosuke continued, half confused himself and half not believing what was happening.

This was even more outrageous.

"Then tell him! Give him permission! He might be the only one who can stop that dragon...!" Nami after just a second replied, who cares who this person is, Zunesha or ghost of Gol D. Roger himself. If it can stop Kaido, she'll take it.

Raizo stepped forward. "Lord Momonosuke, you carry the blood of Wano's shogun. You can do it. Don't be afraid, we all are here for you."

Taking a deep breath, Momonosuke finally shouted, "Okay, fight... FIGHT BACKKKK!!!" The shout was easily drowned among all the screams taking place around them but still the person he wished to deliver this message heard him just right.

The ground rumbled. Everyone felt a shift under their feet.

Suddenly, the mighty elephant beneath the island let out a roar that rivaled Kaido's. His large, ancient eyes which were shadowed by the weight of 800 years of history finally felt like coming back to life, seeing light, as Zunesha raised his massive trunk and snapped it at Kaido.

Kaido, who was in the middle of now charging his fire breath, suddenly stopped seeing for the first time the enormous Elephant—even for him—moving and looking at him.

Zunesha's huge trunk came swinging like a mountain, crashing into Kaido mid-air. Even for him, moving out of the way in time wasn't possible since it happened almost instantly.

Boom!

The sky cracked with the sound of impact. Kaido's body flew back like a shooting star.

"Whoa, Zunesha attacked him. He fought Kaido." others saw and perked up.

"Go Zunesha, beat that overgrown lizard."

"Did that attack do it?"

Many of the Mink Tribe people asked. Unfortunately for them, it wasn't enough. Kaido's body wasn't hurt—he was Kaido after all—but he was caught off guard.

Kaido hovered in the sky, glaring down. "How come you didn't act earlier when I attacked you?" Kaido questioned to himself, seeing the giant elephant acting up like this for the first time. As long as he remembered, this giant elephant never acted like this before. What changed?

But he didn't care. If the elephant was about to go in his way, then he'll kill him as well. So with that, Kaido got ready to attack Zunesha with his Dragon's breath like earlier.

When he first arrived, he attacked Zunesha in one of the legs to slow it down and destabilize him. However, the Elephant just like usual didn't act against him for some reason.

He was planning on doing the same when once again Zunesha's trunk came at him. This time Kaido dodged it easily enough.

He then simply flew up, away from Zunesha's reach before planning to attack him again. He charged his Dragon's breath and was just about to throw a powerful fire breath when he and everyone else heard a sound.

A sound which almost made Zunesha stop in his tracks for the first time in hundreds of years.
