Either Hael's own organization feared him—which I could understand—or my friend had done well to conceal me from its other members, because as I sat tucked behind Ember on his galloping horse, our strands flying and tangling in the wind, members of the organization pursued us.

 

Hooves trampled vigorously over fields, ruining them. 

 

The wind cut at my face and tossed Ember's scratchy ponytail into my eyes.

 

Disorderly shouts and hollers hissed past my ears.

 

Ember placidly commanded—despite the chaos—his horse to run faster.
