Acting All Sweet And Caring!

"Sure, let's take a look at it," Mr. Davis said.

Avery bit her lip as she watched her father leave with Eric and Katherine. She had no choice but to make Sarah the scapegoat.

Madam Quinn, who knew how implicating it would be for them if Mr. Davis found out this was all their doing, walked up to Avery.

"Avery, what are we going to do?" She asked anxiously.

"What else aside from putting the blame on Sarah Blue?" Feeling no ounce of remorse, she replied.

Avery had always been this way: cold, perfectionist, ambitious and always putting blame on others.

"But–"

"Ethan, no buts! She is just a pawn in this game of ours!" She interrupted Ethan, who felt sorry for the poor lady.

A few minutes later, Mr. Davis returned to the living room with Katherine and Eric.

"Avery, Isn't this your friend, Sarah?" Mr. Davis asked as he showed her the video of what really happened, his pale expression hiding his true intention.

Not knowing what her father was up to, she decided to carry on as she planned. "Not really my friend. We got close because she had a crush on Ethan," she replied innocently.

Mr. Davis smiled at her response before he continued. "How did she get a hold of our family's heirloom? And access to Katherine's room?"

"Dad, I have no answer to that question. You know I rarely have time for friends," she defended herself.

"Really? Then, who told her about our family heirloom? Who had access to my room aside from you and your mother?"

She bit her lip at her father's consistent question before replying, "I only talked about it once. I wanted the heirloom to be passed down to me, making me the first woman to possess it."

"Is that why you decided to frame your brother and his wife?" Mr. Davis asked, suspecting her.

Avery smiled curly at his words. Now that her mother and brother are out of this, she knows how to get out of this.

"Me? You know that is the last thing I will ever do. She orchestrated this! She wants to make me the villain by playing the good lady's role. Like, does it make any sense? She did not–"

Eric, who couldn't stand this irritating conversation, spoke up, "Father, let this die here. Though, I will not let Sarah go away with this."

"Katherine, lets go," with that, the both of them left the mansion.

Outside the mansion, in the parking lot, she raised her gaze to look at him. All she could see was regrets and guilt, making her furious.

She did not know what to do, whether to get mad at him or thank him.

"Eric," she called out his name, still staring at him. "I hate you! I just don't know what to do with you. This minute you made me smile, the next you made me question our marriage, and now? You helped me!"

Here in Freeland, the punishment for theft is two years imprisonment, making their country a robbery-free country in the continent.

Eric exhaled deeply, not sure what to say to soothe her heart. "I am sorry, Honey. I know I am not deserving of you, but please don't be too hard on yourself. Blame me all you want."

Not again, acting all sweet and caring!

"Will you just stop this cute act of yours and be who you are? Show me that side of yours that you show others and not this pretentious act!" She yelled at him.

Eric's smile disappeared upon hearing her words. With the sincerity in her eyes, he knew she meant it.

"Okay, I will do that. Let's go cool down our heads," he said, his pale face staring at her.

She grinned before entering the car. After he entered, the car zoomed off.

As if they were driving to a place without destiny, there was total silence in the car until they arrived at an island.

"What are we doing here?" After they alighted from the car, she asked.

"To cool our heads," he replied with a stern look.

She sighed deeply before sitting on the cold fine sand. The cold breeze that blew on her skin was refreshing, reminding her of the last time she went to a beach with Mirabel.

Eric sat next to her, not speaking to her. There was a long silence between the both of them until she spoke up.

"Why did you install the camera in our room, honey?" She asked, a bit relieved of the stress she passed through earlier.

She thought she was going to die earlier. She had never been that scared in her life. Not only was she afraid of being embarrassed by the public, but afraid of being punished when she is innocent.

Eric hesitated before he replied, "I did that to protect myself from Avery's problem. I knew she was going to use you to get me, but I am smarter than her."

"Ehhh, you are a dumb ass! You should have dragged her down, but you act like some damn hero back there," she said, doubting if he really was smart aside from cunning.

"This isn't the time to drag her down. She is much more than you think. She has a backbone in the business empire," he informed her, a little bit down.

Curious, she asked, "Who is her backbone?"

"I learned she is dating Jasper Crawford. He will do anything for her, including destroying our family. He is the reason Jaylen fashion and entertainment hasn't gone bankrupt," he replied.

Everyone knew they had a special relationship, though the fact that he was old enough to be her father didn't bother them. Their age difference didn't affect their relationship in the slightest.

Her eyes widened at his words, not sure if this was an opportunity for her or an impending trouble.

"Honey, please help me strike a deal with Avery. I want her to persuade her boyfriend into signing the collaboration contract."

"I can't!" His response was simple and concise, sounding as if he harbored special hatred towards that man.
