The Boss Troll part 5

Kim felt herself get pushed away from the troll as it suddenly lunged towards Elmo. Kim suspected that the force the pushed her back had to do with whatever it was that was keeping fire away from the troll. Although, she couldn't understand why the troll suddenly went for Elmo like that.

Though, regardless of whether Elmo survived that hit, her focus was on getting to the troll. If she could only touch the troll with the sword covered in flames, then maybe it could make it stop regenerating long enough for them to really do some damage. Kim had no idea if that would work, but until whatever was keeping fire away from it was dealt with, then that was pretty much the only thing she could really hope for.

As Kim started trying to push her way towards the troll again, she noticed the troll didn't seem to be paying much attention to those inflicting damage on it. Not that the were making any headway, as while its wounds didn't heal right away, they weren't able to do that much damage, since none of it was lasting. It was clear that they could only deal so much damage before it healed it, and they definitely weren't able to get anywhere near depleting its HP.

Though, Kim couldn't help but glance at where the troll seemed to have its attention focused. It was towards the ceiling and what Kim saw was what looked like a falcon that was trying to use its talons on the ornamental piece in the center of the room on the ceiling. Kim wasn't sure how else to describe it but as an upside down triangle or pyramid or something. She assumed the falcon was Sonya, but she couldn't say why Sonya was targeting that, not that her talons seemed to be doing any real damage. Although, she had to assume that whatever the reasons, Sonya had determined that what was keeping fire away from the troll was centered there.

"Patricia!" Kim called out, getting the girl's attention. "See what you can do to help destroy that thing."

Patricia nodded, before moving away from the troll and began shooting icicles at the ornamental piece. However, the moment she started doing that, the troll seemed to focus on her. Kim couldn't help but wonder if the troll was attuned to that structure and was determined to defend it first and foremost. Which further meant to Kim that it was what they needed to destroy in order to have any kind of fire get close to the troll.

Kim wished she could do something herself, but she knew that she certainly couldn't do anything. She could shoot arrows at it, but it didn't look like it would do that much damage and she'd have to either drop her sword or put it away. She couldn't say if that would affect the flames it was imbued with or not, and she wasn't sure she wanted to take that risk.

However, whatever damage the icicles were doing to it seemed to be significant, given how freaked out the troll seemed to be. It began attacking Patricia with a ferocity that it hadn't shown any of them. The closest was when it hit Bart and Bart went flying. Like Elmo, but somehow it felt like there was more force when the Troll had hit Bart.

Suddenly the ornamental thing shattered as if it was made of glass and it had been hit with a giant sledgehammer. Pieces of it were falling and Kim no longer felt like she was wading through weeds that were wrapping themselves around her.

The troll looked infuriated and slammed it's fist down on the ground, facing Michelle. At that moment the ground beneath Michelle suddenly shot upwards, a impaling skewering Michelle on it as it shot up twenty feet. The stalagmite tearing Michelle's body apart as the tip came out of the top of her head.

Kim could only hope that Elin wasn't looking as that happened and a part of her was glad Elmo was probably unconscious and couldn't see that. She herself felt rather nauseated at it. The one thing about Michelle she could be sure of now was that she was dead. There wasn't anything they could do about it other than to try and not let it affect them.

Kim screamed as she ran towards the troll, swinging the flaming sword as she got close and sliced deeply into the troll left arm. The troll roared in pain, clearly reacting differently than to how it had any time before to the cuts it had received before now.. Which told Kim that the fire really was affecting the troll and it wasn't just a theory any more.

Not only that, but all the damage it had received before Kim struck its arm looked like it had stopped regenerating. Kim couldn't help but smile to herself as she finally saw the end of this fight.

"Sonya! I think you can turn into a salamander now!," Kim yelled at Sonya.

In the corner of her eye, she saw Sonya the falcon land and begin to change shape. What she saw a moment later was a large lizard that had completely red scales and had flames coming out of its body at random places. Some were around the joints, such as the elbows, while others were at various scales.

Yet, before anything else happened, a stream what almost looked like liquid fire blasted the troll in the chest. Not only was it clear it was doing major damage, its meager clothing burned away. Km swung her sword again, letting her guard drop, since it was clear the troll was too preoccupied for the moment to take advantage of that.

She was vaguely aware of Owen, Leon, Elwin, and Jonas continuing their attacks as she continued swinging her sword at the troll as it took of a more defensive posture. While she wasn't sure exactly how much damage they were dealing with each strike, or even how much damage the continuous stream of the liquid fire, that could only be coming from Patrick, was dealing.

Soon, the troll was clearly trying to escape, as it's movements were becoming erratic. It looked like it was having difficulty even standing or had much strength in any of its attacks.

Then when the final blow came, Kim couldn't be sure who delivered it. She only could be sure it wasn't her. As she was still in mid swing when the troll stopped trying to move at all. Her blade merely cut into the body of the troll, merely damaging a corpse than a living monster.

When she realized that, she put her sword in its sheath and looked around, taking stock of everyone around them. Elwin and Leon were hugging and slapping each other on the back, shouting things Kim couldn't understand as they celebrated the demise of the troll. Owen was sitting down cross-legged on the ground, leaning his forehead on the palms of his hands with his elbows braced on his knees. Jonas climbing out of the shadow of the troll as he stretched. Patricia looked at the troll before starting to walk over towards Patrick. Sonya had reverted back to her human shape and had her eyes wide and was shaking.

Kim looked around away from the immediate area around the toll, and had to walk around to see Elin taking care of Bart, which told Kim that the boy was probably still alive, though she couldn't be sure about the depth of his injuries. Heather had clearly gone towards Elmo, but, like Sonya, she was staring at towards the troll, wide eyed and not moving. Maybe she was shaking like Sonya, but the distance kept her from being able to be sure of that.

Kim could also see Patricia making out with Patrick towards the doors through which they'd entered the room. However, she pushed that out of her mind as she started to walk towards Elin.

Of all the people involved in the fight, she was most concerned about Elin. While the girl looked like she was fine, Kim wanted to be sure herself and quickly ran over to Elin.

Elin looked up as Kim approached, her face streaked with tears as she cradled Bart's head in her hands. The boy's skull had pretty much been pulverized, but was still breathing, albeit with a lot of pain. Kim wanted to ask how Elin was doing, but got the feeling that Elin was more concerned about the boy than with herself.

"How's he doing?" Kim asked, kneeling down next to Bart, as if he was the one she was truly worried about.

"Heather said he'll be fine and I used the last of my MP to cast Regenerate on him, but its just taking so long and I don't want to put his head on the ground, because I don't want all that dirt to get in with his brain," Elin replied.

Just the thought of the boy's brain coming out of his head in front of her, made Kim feel pretty nauseous. So, she pushed the thought away by changing the subject. "Think you'll be okay?" she asked, hoping that Elin would let the subject change.

"Yeah, I'm alright. The closest I came to getting any damage was when the troll threw Owen's sword at me," Elin said, still keeping her eyes one Bart. Then she blinked and looked at Kim. "Oh, how is everyone else?"

"Well, Elmo I think is knocked out, but I haven't asked Heather how he is, but Michelle was killed," Kim said. "As for everyone else, I'm not sure. I didn't check to see if anyone else had been hurt. Though, I'm a little worried about Sonya and Heather. I'm not sure why, but I think Owen's thing that he did to keep them from feeling the trauma they'd experienced with the goblins is back."

Elin sighed. "Maybe I could go check on them once Bart's doing better," Elin replied. "Right now I think I should make sure he stays like this until his head fully regenerates."

Kim nodded. "I understand. I'll check with the others and see what we can do otherwise," Kim said as she stood up and started walking back to the others.

She was satisfied that Elin was fine and was ready to see what else happened. It was time to assess just how much damage that troll had really done to them.
