Jonas wasn't sure of what was being asked when he woke up. All he heard was Elmo ask, "Are you sure?"
"Not completely, but sure enough," Blot replied.
"Sure about what?" Jonas croaked as he straightened up from his sleeping position in the armrest chair he was sitting in. Jonas then cleared his throat to get rid of the dryness in it that made his question come out as a croak.
Elmo didn't reply immediately, standing in front of the doorway to the cafeteria. Instead, he looked at Jonas before turning back to Blot, who was on the floor next to him, and sighed. "Blot thinks he might be the Book of Living," Elmo said, almost as if he was worried about having gotten in trouble for something. Something that he wasn't supposed to be talking about in the first place.
Maybe it was just too early in the morning, but Jonas had a feeling that he needed to get something to eat himself. However, if he did that then he might miss what Elmo said to the others.
So, he did what seemed prudent to him. He got up, walked over to where Elmo was, still by the doorway to the cafeteria, put his arm around Elmo's shoulders, and escorted him back to the cafeteria. Not caring what others might think about the sight.
"Wait, what!?" Elmo blurted, clearly surprised as he was pulled backwards into the cafeteria by Jonas.
"Don't worry, just wanted to talk where there wasn't anyone else around," Jonas said gently.
"But Heather and Sonya are in there… uh, wanting the same thing" Elmo blurted, sounding almost frantic to not get pulled back into the cafeteria.
"We'll be quiet," Jonas assured Elmo. In fact, Heather and Sonya's presence was a bit of a wrinkle in his idea, but if they were wanting private time, then they likely were off to one side of the cafeteria. As long as he brought Elmo to the other side and talked quietly, then it shouldn't be a problem.
Though, while Jonas had imagined Heather and Sonya on the floor, where it'd be harder to be seen, he was a little surprised to see that they were at a table, though, it was clear what they were doing, with Sonya pretty much on Heather's lap in the same chair. Though, at the angle they were in relation to them, all he could see was Sonya's bare back.
Jonas couldn't help but sigh. Though, he didn't go back through the door. He still needed his breakfast, after all. He just merely escorted Elmo to the farthest corner of the cafeteria from Heather and Sonya. Which, fortunately, made it so that they were easily ignored, even though if they looked, they'd still be able to see what they were doing. The echoing of the sounds they were making sounding throughout the entire cafeteria was another matter entirely.
Jonas, however, did his best to ignore it. Not that it was all that difficult for him. He'd dealt with some jobs that were around people who were engaging in similar, if not exactly the same, activities in much more public areas than this.
"So, tell me, what led up to Blot talking about him being the Book of Living?" Jonas asked quietly, not wanting to disturb the two lovebirds in their lovemaking on the other side of the large room.
Elmo explained as quickly as he could, the sounds coming from Sonya and Heather clearly being a distraction for him. At least with how his eyes kept glancing in their direction.
At the end, Blot hopped up on the chair next to Jonas. "We agreed to leave as those two started… uh, getting rather intense, so we had just left after we'd finished our meal," Blot added, as if that part added to the explanation.
Which for Jonas, it really didn't. If anything, it was more of a distraction from what they had been talking about.
"So, both of you were bothered by their… activities?" Jonas asked, feeling a headache coming on. While he could deal with them doing their own thing, even if they were probably louder than they realized, it was clear that Elmo, and maybe Blot too, were having trouble ignoring it as well.
Which would mean they'd need to find another location in the library to have this discussion. Which Jonas really wasn't that happy about.
"Both of you, finish up! People are starting to get up now!" another voice called out, startling even Jonas. He'd been so focused on what Blot and Elmo had been saying that he'd been filtering out all other noises, so was caught of guard to find Patricia having entered the cafeteria with Patrick, whose face was beet red with embarrassment.
Jonas glanced in Heather and Sonya's direction in time to see their heads pop up from behind the tables, looking rather startled themselves. Though, from how they went back to what they'd been doing, it was clear to him that they hadn't taken Patricia's words to heart. Either that or they were 'finishing up' rather than stopping right there.
Which if they did 'finish' quickly, then that would mean he wouldn't have to leave, which he certainly was fine with. Although, Jonas did make a mental not to talk with Heather and Sonya about their 'activities.' As it did seem to him like they were over doing it a little. If only to try and avoid the headache he was starting to get again.
"Anyway, I still need to eat, so just wait there until I can get some food and then we'll discuss what it was about Blot's cover that makes him think that it indicates he's the Book of Living."
Jonas had already been thinking about how Blot was a living book and he had speculated that the Book of Living might be in fact a living book, but at the same time, he wasn't sure he was willing to get on board that particular train just yet. It felt a little too convenient right then.
"We'll probably need to discuss this with everyone when they get up, so both of you should remain here," Jonas said as he stood up from the table. "If I need to, I'll send Kim to collect both of you."
Elmo paled a little at that, though Blot hardly seemed concerned. Not that Jonas really was that surprised by that fact. Blot wasn't really 'male' as far as Kim likely considered, so she likely wouldn't have the same dislike for Blot as she had for Elmo. Nor did Blot know Kim like Jonas and Elmo did, so the living book wouldn't find the threat nearly as intimidating. Not that Jonas was that concerned about that, as the threat was mostly for Elmo anyway.
The fact that they'd want to discus something with him would likely have been enough for Blot to stay where he was. As it was still pretty much part of his job in the library anyway.
When Jonas reached the window and placed his order for a bowl of regular breakfast cereal with milk, Patricia had already either put Heather and Sonya out of her mind or was blatantly ignoring them as they 'finished up' or whatever it was they had in mind right then.
"Surprised to see that you were willing to endure the noise those two were making," Patricia remarked as she approached Jonas.
"I've dealt with worse than that before," Jonas replied indifferently. It wasn't a subject he'd care to really get into anyway. Not when he had something else he'd rather talk about anyway. "Though, apparently Elmo's copying of Blot's cover has made Blot think that he might be the Book of Living. I'm not convinced myself, but it's still something that we should let everyone know about."
Patricia blinked, looking rather stunned. However, Patrick didn't seem to be as shocked. "Really? Well, what time do you think we should get everyone together? Others are waking up now as well, but it's hard to say how long it'll be and I'm not sure how everyone will take it if we tell them something like that and we're wrong."
"Wow, you're more than a good fuck," Patricia said, sounding like she was about ready to mimic Heather and Sonya's activities in the cafeteria. Though, Jonas wasn't sure how something like that would work. Not when she'd already complained to Heather and Sonya about that same subject.
Regardless, Jonas nodded and collected his breakfast as it came out of the window at that moment. He'd done his part to inform Patricia and Patrick about the revelation. What they did with it was their business. He'd just need to wait for the others to show up before informing them about the development.
At the very least, he was pretty sure that it would give Elmo more time to review the book he was wanting to take time to really examine, the Prenatal Magic book, before he had to participate in the vote for which books to select to trade.
Jonas was getting more and more convinced himself about the truth behind Blot's assertion. One reason was how Blot had been familiar with the name, but couldn't quite place it, while confident that the book hadn't been taken out of the library.
Though, Jonas hoped that the Book of Living wasn't actually a series of talking books. He wasn't sure how he' be to handle it if that fact turned out to be true.
