Since early morning Ganghwado Island was lively and moving since early morning, as it had become the capital during the Great Mongolian uprising, after being relocated and with it the bustle that it had, remained.
On its coast there is an honor guard and on its hills, there are gorgeous mansions, while the streets are lined with houses of merchants, fishermen, and salt bakers it connects the docks and the low-down streets, where the trade at the docks was once more prosperous than Byeokran Island, now have quite a few ships that have a hive of workers that are busy loading and unloading them and fishing boats that bring in their daily catch.
Choi Young found a tavern displaying a blue flag, where he was planning on having a quick bite to eat before visiting Gyeongchang-gunmama
Choi Young ordered some soup and rice wondered whether Eun-soo would like something like this as well, but Eun-soo ordered seafood that Joo-mo bought out.
Choi Young somehow enjoyed his meal as he emptied the bowl of soup, wondering if Gyeongchang-gunmama's was eating well.
The boys gentle eyes came to his mind and how even when he was King, he was always unable to sweeten his meals.
He remembers when he first saw him at the river, Gyeongchang-gun was twelve years old, and he is the second son of King Chunghye and the descendant of Queen Heebi Yoon and considered a bastard.
It was during this first encounter that he remembers how his maternal family, the Yun clan, entered together.
The way they were crowded around the skinny body which looked even thinner under the loudly embroidered robe and the noticeably rounder physiques of those around him.
The arrival of the group made the palace noisy, even before the coronation ceremony, began. The Yoon's family was a group that received protection and the royal family of the Yuan Dynasty.
It was before the royal family of King Chunghye, came out, when an all-out war between Princess Shin Deoknyeong's faction has begun.
Shinwoo Yoon, maternal relative wields enough power to be called King Yun and reigns over the people, the worship hall, which was favored by Princess Deoknyeong, was not inferior to that.
High and low officials are not interested in national affairs it only became his job to do things when they only focused on which line to take, and we slandered each, is when he became very busy.
In the end, it was the people who suffered the brunt of the fight within the royal family.
All, as those with vested interests were interested int taking advantage of this turbulent political situation, the pirates began to rampage even more.
At first, Japanese pirates invaded Goseong, Jukmal, Geoje, etc as it gradually expanded the scope of its invasion.
The Jeokwoldae that remained in the palace many of the crew members died while trying to subdue the Japanese pirates.
I remember Gyeongchang-gun sitting in the King's large study in Gangan-an where he can clearly see the sickly young King sitting behind a mountain of scrolls of reports that sit stacked all over the desk.
He always had a scared face, worried at how to catch the Japanese pirate and when the order is given.
The person who received the order shamelessly comes to the King and says, "Celebrate." The response is "I can't do it."
Choi Young had watched as the King's shadow so used to it that he has to consciously remind himself not to forget it existed.
Moreover, Gyeongchang-gun was the King's son who is the victim of Chung-hye, who killed his teacher.
From the beginning, there were no expectations for the King, and the protection of him was just mechanically organizing the King's guard team and the palace patrol team, and the night passed.
Choi Young would personally visit the King's residence once or twice to supervise those in charge. The one night he became aware that the protection he had put into place was inadequate was when one night he had found Gyeongchang-gun was found hiding in the royal garden. He had asked him in surprise, "How did you come out alone?"
Prince Gyeongchang just looked at Choi Young with a frightened look on his face as he noticed that he was the only one dressed up, while he had his clothes tied awkwardly and shoes on.
The sight made him aware that something was not right so, Choi Young knelt down on one knee and raised his eyes to eye level to ask in a calm voice, "Is there somewhere you want to go?"
Gyeongchang-gun, who looked at Choi Young in disbelief at first, then shook his head. Choi Young sensed this was not entirely true then says to him, "If you tell me where, God can help me."
Gyeongchang, who hesitated some more, confessed in a low voice, "I want to meet Hwang." Choi Young not recognising the name asks him,"Who is Hwang?"
The answer is, "This is the dog I had grown up with since I was young, and when I came into the palace, they said that he got lost." He then looks hopefully to ask Choi Young, "Should I ask you to bring him?"
Noticing that Choi Youngs face does not seem to look like it was going to give a favourable answer to the suggestion, Gyeongchang shook his head.
He proceeds to echo something that he has been clearly taught but struggles with the reality, "I will not allow you to stay with me. The person who will become King. It is said that one should not give affection to such a small creature, showing such a weak appearance. It shouldn't be seen...…."
Gyeongchang-gun tries to catch his breath as he then says, trying to suppress his crying, "I miss Hwang."
Choi Young had long forgotten what it was like to miss anything, is reminded of that feeling asks him, "Then would you like to secretly go and take a peek?"
Gyeongchang-gun looks at him with surprised eyes to ask, "Can you do that?"
Choi Young answers, "Please wait a moment." He then quietly called some of his subordinates and gave them instructions, he then quickly wraps a plain clothes jacket wrapped around the young King
Choi Young is the leader his own words have weight with the army on board, the Woodalchi were able to move ahead of the Young King and Choi Young to make sure their way was clear as they travelled through the dark night to Gyeongchang-gun, to visit the Yoon family residence where he grew up.
The Woodalchi group stayed to position themselves little further away from the mansion, while Choi Young got off his horse to then carry Gyeongchang off his horse.
It was while Choi Young was doing this that something came rushing from the mansion and Gyeongchang-gun suddenly broke from his grasp to run to embrace the large yellow dog that now could be seen by the all the Woodalchi.
The dog was wagging its tail like crazy and licking Gyeongchang, who laughed out loud and hugged his dog, not letting go. It was the first time that Choi Young had seen the young King smile.
The next day, a member Woodalchi, disguised in civilian clothes, stole the large yellow dog called Leong Gae who was seen sleeping at Mr. Yoon's and brought him to Woodalchi Barracks.
After the young King is escorted by Choi Young with the excuse of teaching him in training his body and learning how to shoot archery to the Woodalchi training ground, where he is met by the yellow dog who accompanies him. It was in this way that the young King got to keep his beloved dog.
Choi Young is brought back to the present when Eun-soo says, "Is there something you have to do?" he looks at her with his gentle eyes wondering what she will say, when she laughs, "No matter how urgent it is, even if you cut my head off after a while, I will wash it I have to go. Even if I get cut off, I want a clean head."
For the sake of Eun-soo, who had made this declaration, he talked to the lady who ran the tavern, who was able to guide her to a place to wash.
Choi Young also took the opportunity to quickly wash at the well, able to clean off the dried blood stains that had been on his body, before visiting Gyeongchang-gun
After cleaning himself he went to the well behind this tavern and looked around, but there was no follower.
It seemed that the group that had followed the boat all night disappeared as soon as the sun came, which makes him think 'Good'
Choi Young then locates the person named Zhou Mo's husband who knew where Gyeongchang-gun was located gave the following instructions, "Just go about 4 ri east of Ganghwabu."
(Author note: Definition of ri里 In Japan and North Korea, 20ᵗʰ century, a unit of distance, = 36 chō, = 3.92727… (that is, 3 ⁵¹⁄₅₅) kilometers, about 2.44 miles, while in n South Korea, 20ᵗʰ century, a unit of length, approximately 10/33 millimeters. But see li.)
Choi Young then asks him, "Have you ever seen him alive?" The man hesitates as he Gyeongchang-gun was dethroned and Ganghwado Island was preserved.
When the ship had to leave, only 45 people, including Jeon Gyo-ryeong and Shin Deok-rin, followed.
Choi Young knows that afterwards, they were chased by the Sungun and arrested and probably also heard that So who is looking after Mama now?
The man answers, "Don't even talk to me. If anyone goes in to see Mama, they will immediately torture you and then me. I have grown cold towards that young person. What kind of high treason is giving a small lump of rice to someone and turning the country upside down called?"
Choi Young's heart feels cold, "Then you're saying there's no one to help?" The man looked around and spoke softly,"Fortunately, I heard a sweet sound, that the governor of Ganghwa-gun occasionally sends government funds to provide food.
Choi Young wonders, 'Who is the current governor of Ganghwa County?' he tries to remember is whether he has seen him but cannot remember anything at all.
The thought makes him wonder, 'is he not a member of any faction?' It seems he is not too proud to give to someone who was once a King food and he asked me to take care of him.
Although the food was rough, Choi Young packed it well in his saddlebag, to put it all in. In one day, Eun-soo's horseback riding skills improved considerably and her speed was quite fast, enabling them to move at an increased pace.
After leaving the tavern and traveling for about one hour, there seemed to come across one daunting area which was surrounded by a thorny tangerine hedge.
At a glance, it was the residence where the exiled Sora in Urian was in custody. Choi Young could see how it was wrapped, on the outside of the fence there is a rust wall with short pieces of wood stuck at an angle, where the awakening is installed.
Choi Young ties Scarlett first near the house but does not bother tying his own horse as it is smart and even if it does not stay in one place it will not leave without his master.
Choi Young looks around the area, it appears that there were no people nearby, so the surroundings were quiet and there is still no sign of those who were following them.
Wirianchi, a prisoner trapped inside cannot step outside and outsiders cannot talk to the criminals inside.
The no exception even when a wife exchanges love or correspondence with a criminal, she will be severely punished.
Choi Young is trying to see with his eyes and his internal senses to locate anyone that must be there to protect it but was not visible.
He looks at the gate of the thatched hut was locked from the outside, but both the iron and the hooks that hung it were rusty and flimsy.
It is hard for him to believe as he wonders, 'Is there no one who can break in and no one can get out?' Choi Young grabbed the lock and pulled it, tearing off the ring at once, to then toss it away.
The lock resembles how his heart was chained by the combined power of his anger, his covenant and is now being torn to pieces, as a result of being under the command of the great Deokseong Buwongun.
He is fully aware of the consequences of him being here, so if anyone starts a fight, he will give up his name.
The thought makes his heart angry, which he acts on as he pushes the door with force, which makes a loud noise because of the rusted hinges as it is opened.
Eun-soo who has been feeling well was walking through the desolate yard behind Choi Young, noticing but not understanding why a man who is said to be King would live in a place like this. It makes her wonder, 'Was this the kind of exile you only read about in history books?'
Eun-soo had also notices that Choi Young had been silent from the moment they left the tavern. Normally he did not say very much like he was a non-existent person, the difference in the atmosphere that exuded from his person was a bit different this time.
It was like he was angry about something, that grew as they got closer to their destination to the King in exile.
Eun-soo thinks for some reason, when a person like this gets angry, that there must be a good reason.
She does not know what the reason is but hopes that she is not the reason why he is angry. So, she follows him quietly looking around until he stops walking making her also stop to keep her distance as she watches him from behind.
Choi Young stands in the middle of the yard of the thatched hut and straightened his collar and his clothing to then announce, "Gyeongchang-gunmama. This is Choi Young." As he stands facing the entryway.
The silence of the hut is broken when something can be heard crashing inside where movement suddenly can be heard
Soon the door opened wide as Choi Young stands watching it, by a white-faced, dry man that now can been seen as he appears in the entryway.
The boy that appeared, had bare feet, as he suddenly starts to run down into the main yard stumbling and falling down, where Choi Young kneels down to catch him before, he can hit the ground and hugs him as the boy says in breathless disbelief, "Young-ah."
The boy looks up at the man again and again not quite believing what he says, "Young-ah, you came. Young-i came." Choi Young's face has taken a warm and soft look as he asks the boy, "How have you been?"
Eun-soo cannot believe what she sees as she observes at a respectable distance, it makes her wonder 'Who was it that could affect him to make a face like that?' from next to her.
The boy who was said to be the former king grabbed the hem of Choi Young's chest "Young-ah. Young-ah...." He cried as the reality of the situation sets in and laughs to, then bury his head in his arms.
Choi Young-I who had wrapped his arms around the boy, raises his head, which enable Eun-soo to peek at his face noticing how it changed from smiling brightly just a moment to become increasingly cold as he investigated the room with the door open.
Eun-soo followed his gaze and looked inside, to see the empty interior, there is a yellowed worn old wooden furniture of table, chairs and a bed that is covered with tattered old rugs, the pottery, has chips, cracks and broken edges.
A few dishes are sitting on a dusty shelf. In the corner there was also a broken brazier, but there was no fire and on top of that it appears the young King who is no more than a child who is pale and sickly and is no more than thirteen or fourteen years old is alone.
It makes Eun-soo wonder how he can stay in a place like this and why is he here? Eun-soo had noticed earlier how the boy had limped on one leg, as he moved and jumped earlier. It made her head spin as she recalls Ki-Cheol's ultimatum to think, 'You want me to cure this child's illness?'
Flashback
Earlier when, Deokseongbuwongun Ki-Cheol requested an audience with the King early in the morning.
The King had called Ki-Cheol had called him into his study without delay and greeted him. The first thing that Ki-cheol, he immediately brings up Captain Woodalchi, to ask about his story, "Do you know the name of the commander of Your Majesty's Woodalchi Army?"
The King answers, careful not to overreact, "I know." Ki-Cheol then reports with some solenity, "Choi Young, he came to Soshin's house and kidnapped Uiseon. Do you know anything?"
The King looks amused, "Did someone named Choi Yeong lead an army? They say that the strictness is one level higher than that of the royal palace, but in a house like that, how is possible a person in hyour charge was kidnapped?"
Ki-Cheol looks aggrieved, "It was such a surprise attack, and the tricks were so brilliant that my child say they missed it."
The King has a stern expression, "I borrowed the Uiseon for a while because I heard there was a patient at Buwon-gun's house, that no one could treat and now you are telling me that Uiseon has been kidnapped. How am I supposed to hold you accountable when you are trying to silence me."
Ki-Cheol waves his hands exaggeratedly, "The accusation is unfair, Your Highness. The leader of Woodalchi came to visit because he was worried about Jeongin. So, I allowed him to visit me at home to meet with me."
The King asks, "Did you say Jeongin...?" He then looks back at Chung Seok who is standing with his mouth opened in surprise without realizing it, to then quickly close it.
Ki-Cheol satisfied that his revelation has made the impact he was looking for continues with, "Choi Young said so with his own mouth. He treated Uiseon as Jeongin. It means crawling. Since it's your Majesty's leader, I'm going to drink alcohol. I treated him well, but this guy ran away, taking Uiseon with him. How could God have guessed? Is it by your Majesty's command? I did not know that the captain of His Majesty's guard would kidnap Uiseon...."
The King glares at Ki-Cheol in silence wonder 'What trick are you trying to do? Is it?' Ki-Cheol continues seemingly oblivious to the Kings displeasure, "My children who followed behind brought me the news a little while ago. It is said that Choi Young took Uiseon to Ganghwa Island."
The King says, "Ganghwadora...?"
Ki-Cheol continues, "Perhaps His Highness this is where the dethroned Gyeongchang-gun resides. Did you send him like that, to take Uiseon with him?
The King is not answering, so Ki-cheol answers his own question, "No. Your Majesty couldn't have done that. If that is what your Majesty wanted you should just make a bold statement and that's it. What on earth is interest? Do you think that His Majesty's royal family was taken to Prince Gyeongchang?"
The King then looks at Chung Seok to ask him, "What does the manager think?" Chung Seok answers in a stern tone, "I do not know anything, and I cannot even guess."
The King no longer pretends to be relaxed and asks Ki-Cheol "What do you want to say? Say it." Ki-Cheol asks, "How close are you to Choi Young? "You've only been in circles for about a month on the way here, right?"
The King says, "So?" Ki-Cheol looks calculating as he tries to provoke the King by saying, "Choi Young and Gyeongchang's Majesty were not simply a military and vassal relationship. It is said that Gyeongchang-gun ascended to the position of chief minister at the young age of twelve. Back then, Choi Young was a reliable bodyguard, a teacher, and a patient man. He was like a close brother to him, for the three years they were together, and it has been a while since they have seen each other let alone meet."
Chung Seok looked at the King's expression with anxiety as the King rises his chin and is looking at Ki-Cheol with a shaken expression, while Ki-Cheol is quite content with how the words he has uttered has clearly upset the King.
The King forces a smile and opens his mouth, "So now, Buwongun, my captain Woodalchi ran to Ganghwa Island to bring back my nephew Gyeongchang-gun. Oh? To rebel against me?" Ki-Cheol acts like he is very worried and asks back, "Why not?"
Back to the present Eun-soo is relying on the sunlight coming through the window, as she inspects Gyeongchang-gun's vitals, to then look at his eyes and inside his ears.
She notices a tumor which can be seen with the naked eye and clearly visible. The sight makes Eun-soo anxious but the patient, Gyeongchang, seems to be doing well and is clearly excited as he asks a multiple of questions, "So Young, you're saying you went into Heaven yourself?" Her answer is, "I did."
While Eun-su was examining Gyeongchang-gun, answering the young kids' questions with a friendly voice. She has noticed Choi Young who faces Gyeongchang-gun sitting with a smiling face, clearly enjoying how they interact.
Gyeongchang asks, "Are there only people like this who live in Heaven?" Eun-soo is carefully examining the area of Gyeongchang's neck below his ear as Choi Young interjects playfully "A person like this. What kind of person is this?"
Gyeongchang answers, "I am saying this because Uiseon is so beautiful. I I'm surprised you have good looks. Is this what a fairy is like?" Eun-soo laughs at his words to say, "The young man has a really good sense of work."
Gyeongchang-gun confused tries to repeat some of the words she said, "Zen・・・・・・Su?" Choi Young gave him advice with a smile, "Ignore it. She often uses unknown heavenly language."
Eun-soo is looking into Gyeongchang's eyes when she asks him, "Do you sometimes have objects that appear two or three times to overlap? Do you sometimes have trouble with seeing with your eyes? Do you sometimes have trouble hearing? Do you sometimes experience piercing pain in your ears? Do you have any symptoms or something like that?"
Gyeongchang look at her in amazement which is reflected in his voice when he says, "Oh. It really is Uiseon. How can you know just by looking at it?"
Eun-soo then asks him, "Do you sometimes go deaf?" He answers seriously, "Yes. Sometimes that happens, I also have a severe headache and my nose bleeds often."
Gyeongchang-gun grabs Choi Young's sleeve, to shake it in his excitement as he says, "It's amazing, Young-ah. This person is truly amazing. She knows everything."
Choi Young can't help but laugh and looks at Eun-soo's face to see that it is showing a concern rather than sharing in the amusement.
Eun-soo then asks Prince Gyeongchang, "Can I roll up your pants to check your legs?" He answers her good naturedly, "Go ahead." He then bends over to roll up his pants to show them to her saying, "You can look at anything you need to."
Eun-soo then kneels in front of Gyeongchang-gun to slowly touch his skinny ankles and move up his leg to press here and there to see if he reacts to the pressure on either leg to assess for the differences between the two.
While she continues with her examination, Gyeongchang-gun acts like nothing is happening except for the slight changes in his expression when he feels discomfort which he tries cover with ask Choi Young, "Young-ah tell me more stories of the sky world."
Choi Young is happy to divert the attention of his old charge by saying, "All I saw was a very brief, very narrow section." Gyeongchang presses him for more information by saying, "But you must have seen something, right?"
So, Choi Young says, "The houses were very tall." Gyeongchang then asks, "How tall?" The answer is, "All places where the earth and sky meet are so high that even if I tilt my head back, I can't see all the way up to the top that is how big and high they were. The houses were so tall that only half of the sky in the sky world was visible. Oh... and it was the middle of the night when I had arrived, and at that night the whole heaven and earth was full of light. All tall houses are made of light, it was as bright as ever and some of them had lights that made up paintings hanging here and there on the outside of them."
People rode in horseless carriages which had, bright lights radiate out from the front of the carriages and when it moved down the road, it illuminated the road in front of it.
The number of horseless carriages and the lights that came out the front of them made it seem like the air was full of balls of light that were floating everywhere and moving.
The eyes of Gyeongchang-gun looked into space as they were trying to visualise what Choi Young had described, to then say, "I can see it with my own eyes. Ah, it is truly beautiful."
Choi Young looked back at Eun-soo, who looked at him as their eyes made contact, as if to communicate clearly her concern with the young kid's condition.
It had been dark for a while, since Deokseongbuwongun Ki Cheol had returned to his residence and Chung Seok became the leader of Gapjo, where Chung Seok had been sent to a remote place
The King had instructed him, "One hour is urgent. Run to the captain and tell him stop everything straight away. Whatever it is, stop everything and return to the palace immediately."
Chung Seok asks, "Are you sure that the captain is at Gyeongchang-gun mama's residence?"The King answers, "You'd be lucky if he was not there. If you are both caught there you will be accused of being a traitor."
Chung Seok protests, "Your Majesty…" The King then says, "Deokseongbuwongun's speaking skills were so clever. I began to doubt him, it seems like you did."
Chung Seok realising what the King has said complies, "I will run to my death." To then leave without a word, to quickly mount a horse, grabs the reins, to then say to the King, "By any chance, it's unlikely that the captain will do so, but something happened. Even if it is possible, take Gyeongchang-gunmama and take even one step from that house. You shouldn't come forward. I will send you a message to let you know right away."
Chung Seok kicks the horse in the stomach to ride his horse at full speed. Meanwhile Ki-Cheol returned home, where Yangsa ran to report the situation., "Jeonseo-gu has arrived. Preparations are complete on the Ganghwa County side. They say it is done, and Hwa soo-in says they are just waiting."
Ki Cheol contemplates saying, "Choi Young. That guy. He's an outstanding martial artist." Yangsa says, "Hwa soo-in is taking Mo family assassins with her so, it will not happen."
Ki Cheol says, "If anyone misses a man with a woman and a child, he dies." Yangsa say, "He told me to catch him alive, so that's a bit...."
Ki Cheol says, "It's okay if you don't save the child and the woman. Just save the guy and take him away." Yangsa asks, "Didn't you say you could come? After all things need to be restored two or three times to properly carry out their orders".
Yangsa turns around in frustration, when there is no response to see that Ki-Cheol's gaze was fixed on the object wrapped on cotton cloth lying there on the table.
Ki-Cheol's gaze remains where it stares as the two who had retrieved it report, "It was stolen from Choi Young's errand boy who had come back alone to get that."
Ki-Cheol tries to verify, "If that is…" but comes to a stop so Yangsa says, "I asked for one of Jeon Eui-si's medicinal plants, and Uiseon was in the sky. They said it was brought from there. He saved the queen's life with that tool. go...."
Ki-Cheol slowly approaches the table, to then grab one end of his cotton cloth and hold it upside down so that the things that it contains land loudly on the top of the table.
Ki-Cheol's breathing stops for a moment as he carefully picks up the scalpel stroke it as he inspects it and then puts it down to then repeat the process with each individual tool that the cloth contained.
While doing this Ki-Cheol's mind becomes turbulent, he unconsciously throws ice, which causes metal tools to freeze them cold, as he says under his breath, "I have seen it before."
Ki-Cheol's spirit was so vicious that Yangsa cried out in fear at what was happening, "Really? These…things that are that similar…"
Ki-Cheol wrapped his tools again in cotton cloth, grabbed them, and left at a run, taking both his associates by surprise, who quickly follow behind him.
Ki-Cheol was moving so fast that they just caught a glimpse of his figure as he disappears through the north side of the mansion to enter the Buyu High School.
The annex, he has entered is located in the corner, which is the home of Ner, the teacher of Ki-Cheol's, which is where Gui had lived until his death.
It is surrounded by a high wall that exceeds the height of a person and the heavy gate that is used as the main entrance is locked, there have been very few people who have seen it at all.
It is said that at night, the spirit of Nergui is seen in the yard, the rumor going around is so plausible that he I did not bother to listen to it and it had the added benefit of no-one wanting to go in.
Ki-Cheol didn't have the presence of mind to open the locked door, so he left it locked to fly over the wall.
Both of his closest people have a key chain that hang on their waists, with so many keys it makes it hard to find the right one to open the unlock the door.
They were able to barely pushed open the front door, to enter, as there were weeds in the yard which grew over the stone road to almost completely bury it, hindering it from freely opening.
The reason it is called a go (庫) rather than a house is because of the appearance of this house, was built according to all to Nergui's specifications. It was built in such a way that the carpenter built a house two to three times larger than an ordinary house.
The walls were built thick, there are few windows, and the doors are made of iron plates to make them sturdy.
Ki-Cheol is waiting impatiently in front of the strong door, so that when Yangsa walks with the keys in his hand they are snatched to then be used to unlock and open the door.
Spiderwebs can be seen all over the place some are new, some are old, where some are being covered by others.
The two aides walk ahead one knocks the cobweb out of their way, Yangsa diligently lights candles located throughout the room and around the walls to illuminate the interior that had not been touched for a long time which is revealed.
The progress of time at the thick dust that covers the bottles and jars that stand on the shelves some are filled with human organs, others are filled with rare animal grounds and some contain unidentifiable things, which they have been trained to use for different purposes.
Even though they had followed each other in before, both companies looked at each other every time they turned around as the bizarre things, combined with the strangely rotten smell that the room contains sometimes makes their heart pound in anxiety.
Ki-Cheol pulls out the iron box that was deep inside, opens it, to then flip it open, to then take out a leather pouch that is inside it, to then place it onto the table.
He then moves the box out of the way to untie the leather pouch, unfold it to lie flat on the table. The appearance of old looking tools that have rust here and there can be seen, on the unfolded leather. The two men who were watching Ki-Cheol do this then look at each other in surprise.
Ki-Cheol said in a voice, that reflects his confusion, "It is similar. How could something like this happen…."
The two sets of tools sit on opposite sides of Ki-Cheol who stands in the middle, his hands on either side lightly touch the tools that are near them.
The differences were minor on one side has rust on the tools denoted their age over time, while the other side were so new that it had a silver shine, but the tools on both sides seemed to be similar.
The both sides had what looks like a small sharp knife, which Ki-cheol carefully takes out to hold the sharp looking small knives from both sides in each hand, to look at them and compare them.
He does the same with the tools that look like tongs and scissors noticing how they have the same unknown writing on the handle, that he could not read but were exactly the same in how they were written and where the writing was located.
Ki-Cheol opened his mouth in surprise and disbelief, for the first time in a long time, his voice was trembling, "It was said to be a heavenly object. Master said so. I heard it came that this from heaven. That's it... a crazy old man's dog. I thought it was a sound."
Ki-Cheol's gaze has not left the items as his hands have started to tremble which is reflected in his voice when he mutters, "If that woman brought this item..."
Both his associates are quick to interject, "I am sure I heard that, when she came through the Heavenly gate, she had brought that thing with her."
Ki-Cheol mutters incoherently, "That... there could be the heavenly world. There could be such a thing as the Heavenly world. That means that woman could be from...I have to meet that woman. I have already ordered that if it is that woman, I can kill her... No. Just tell the woman not to hurt even a hair on her head. It is too late to send a new order. It is said...We will start as soon as the sun sets."
Ki-Cheol shouted as he ran toward the door, "I will go directly, as she says she going to get that woman, which will make me responsible for blowing up the whole country."
Eun-soo meanwhile was trying to figure out how to come to a treatment plan that she could use as it was not possible to take photographs using instruments or perform a proper biopsy.
She suspects that the boy Gyeongchang-gunmama appears to be suffering from rhabdomyosarcoma, which she had encountered a patient with similar symptoms during her days in Thoracic Surgery.
The patient had muscle tumours which can appear in a variety of locations, but most commonly start from the part on body which is the head and neck.
Eun-soo had accompanied the patient as they met was initially an ophthalmologist, who while receiving treatment, he developed cancer cells and developed lumps on his chest and back.
Only after the disease had metastasized to the point where the patient had vaginal discharge before her visit to the thoracic surgeon.
Gyeongchang clearly had not only a visible tumor inside his ear, and on the leg that he favours when he is limping, there is also a tumor growing on his leg that is large enough to be felt with her hand he, which is an indication that it has spread to the legs, which is a sign that it is malignant.
It is possible that the tumor may have penetrated into the abdominal cavity, but without the technology she has in the modern world it is not possible to detect how it has spread in his body.
Choi Young and Eun-soo moved out to the yard, so that she could explain to him, without being overheard by Gyeongchang, when Choi Young asks anxiously, "You can fix it, right?"
The condition he has is so serious that it not only needs surgery for it to be successful if it has not spread throughout his body and even if it is a success he will need to undergo chemotherapy...…"
Choi Young confused but understanding how concern she is asks, "Are you saying it will take a long time to fix it?"
Eun-soo answers, "I cannot keep him alive for very long in his current condition… I am not sure if there is anything I can do to treat it."
Eun-soo looks at Choi Young for a moment, determined not to think about the condition not being able to be treated, "Let us move the kid to the medical clinic at the palace, where the surgical tools and we can get Dr. Jang to help, which we will need…"
She stops talking noticing how Choi Young's face became dark with her words to say seriously, "We cannot leave this place for him to receive treatment."
Eun-soo not completely understanding, "Why is that?" She understands that according to Choi Young's explanation, it was probably during exile.
It seemed like the most terrible thing, those in exile are in the house where they are kept captive where they cannot take even a single step outside the fence.
Choi Young explains, "If you take even one step forward, you will be breaking the law of the country."
Eun-soo asks, "What happens if I break it?" Choi Young answers solemnly, "He will be sentenced to death."
Eunsoo was feeling so overwhelmed that she turned around to see that young kids face peeking at her through the window.
Choi Young turns to see what has caught her attention to see Gyeongchang, who he thought was sleeping, heard their words through the window as he listened to everything.
Eun-soo said she would help, with the chores that need to be done but Choi Young didn't bother to take her at her word and proceed to do everything by hand.
He split the tree into appropriate sizes, to then break them as he put them in the brazier, to then light it and coax the flame to take hold and blaze steadily to then go to the well in the corner of the yard to fill buckets of water to use to wash the dishes, clean the tables and warm the food and to drink.
The blankets used by Gyeongchang-gun were also hung out to dry in the sun, while the inside and outside of the house were swept with a broom.
Choi Young was flustered with the fear that feels like it seems to press down on his solar plexus where even his breathing is not calm so he distracts himself as he busily moves his body.
He rubbed his temples, and he noticed a thick cold sweat appears on his hands making him wonder 'What is so scary? No wonder Taiwan is not coming. Something happened to him. Was he arrested by the King's order or imprisoned by Ki-Cheol's subordinates? It does not matter, as it is not the real reason that he is afraid.'
The thought makes Choi Young stop to stand where he had been cleaning the messy yard to look at how the afternoon sunlight was slanting as it indicates that it will be dark soon.
He notices how the moisture of the air mixes in with the breath you breathe in, making him aware that is will rain soon.
He does not remember the last time he felt this kind of fear. It must come out every time they see each other at night, aware of the eyes that he has looked into with every person who doesn't want to meet me, I tell them to trust me and run away.
The day he sent it, he was so scared, that he had tried to calm him by saying, "Look at me. Hear my words. "How many times do you say, "Are you doing well?" and you are out of breath and sweating.
I cut it I left each episode with such fear. Be sure to find it I will go. I sent it to you and asked you to wait. That was the last time. Every time didn't believe it and didn't wait for it.
Deokseong Buwongun sent Uiseon to treat Gyeongchanggun's with the unlitmatum of If you don't get treatment, it will be an excuse to get killed. Choi Young weighs up the possibility of, 'What would happen if I gave up on Changgunmama and let Uiseon run away...…
Choi Young measures the consequences of each path calmly. The thought spreads further and further where he wanted to make a wish that he should not even dare to think about, so he quickly made it happen.
He shakes his head shake off the thoughts, but the hope remained deep in my heart turned on and remained.
He barely made up his mind and opened the door and went in, Choi Young stopped before crossing the threshold at the sight.
It was Eun-soo and Gyeongchang sitting side by side on the bed laughing out loud. Eun-soo had been talking about Heaven to Gyeongchang-gun earlier.
She was showing him how to fold a paper airplane, to adjust it to fly. At the same time she was telling him a story of the flying carriage, as she helps him fold the paper to make the paper airplane and helps him make it fly.
They both laughed out loud at what they were talking about, then Eun-soo makes eye contact with him, her eyes are full of laughter as she says, "Why?"
"Yo?" he asks. Choi Young is somehow overwhelmed at the unexpected surge of emotion when she has looked at him with those eyes, to say, "Yo?" which is like him saying huh? What?
Eun-soo looked at Choi Young who had entered the room to ask her in his clear voice clear to say, "If you have the tools of the medical profession, you can treat Mama here too."
Eun-soo seems to hesitate for a moment to answer, "Can you get them for me? I will also need some medicinal herbs. Teacher Jang will tell you what you need."
Choi Young answers, "I know." Eun-soo says, "It would be best if Teacher Jang came."Choi Young responds, "I will bring it. If possible, I will also bring the eel doctor."
Eun-soo notices that he is clearly anxious but decides not to say anything when he continues to say, "I am thinking of going alone because it will be faster."
Eun-soo still has not responded to his statement, but Gyeongchang comes out crying, "Young-ah. Didn't you just come, because you missed me? How can you go already? I have so much to say.
Choi Young seems not to react what the young kid is saying as he continues, "I will get there before dark tomorrow..." He is interrupted by Gyeongchang, "No. Young-ah, you cannot go."
Meanwhile, Eun-soo comforted Gyeongchang-gun as she says, "Let him go. I will tell you about Heaven all night long. Yo, there is a lot to tell you about and there are so many interesting stories about girl groups, games, etc."
Choi Young asks carefully, "Are you sure you don't mind?" Eun-soo looks at him, "Are you going to go and come back?" Choi Young then says, "I will make sure to bring Jang Bin."
Eun-soo says, "Great." looked at Choi Young and held up one of her fingers to say, "But there is a condition. Can you buy a lot of dumplings when you come back."
Choi Young's tense heart slowly relaxed as he answers, "I will." Eun-soo looks back at Gyeongchang and smiles, "He said he will be buying dumplings."
Gyeongchang-gun asks with a scared face, "Will there be a silver lining?" Eun-soo responds happily, "Of course. Where can I go alone? Leave the two men here."
Choi Young straightened his collar and stood in front of Gyeongchang, "I will be back." Gyeongchang-gun relented, to nod to allow it by saying, "You should return quickly."
Choi Young bows his head, "yes." and then turns his body around to move towards the door, he had walked a couple of steps, to hear Eun-soo's voice behind him, "Bye." the sound makes him turn around to see Eun-soo smiling and waving both her hands.
Gyeongchang is laughing at her and joins in with the waving of both hands, to imitate her, the sight makes him feel uneasy to leave them alone in such a shabby and remote place. Choi Young had thought she would get angry, but says, "Please come back."
The both of them smiling and waving at him, makes deeply suppressed hope bursts into life to make it a dream of his to see this scene again where these two people are together in the yard of a thatched-roof house, waiting for him to join them.
He quickly hides it, to open the door, to then look at the two people sitting side by side are smiling again as he leaves the room, to close the door behind him.
Since leaving the palace, the president has been running on his horse without even a sigh. It was when it reached when the sun is already about to set over the foot of Seosan Mountain.
He looked up at the sky to gauge my life, a flock of pigeons flew by, he notices a pigeon flying low at that moment, which lands and is caught by Lee to then remove the message that is rolled up and hiding in a small barrel that is on its leg.
The message is from Jeonseo-gu, who had abandoned the easy path and took the straight path without hesitating the mountainside, it seems that its path overlapped with that of the pigeon, where there are so many in Gaegyeong
The only place where Jeonseo-gu is used is Deokseong Buwon-gun's house, where there are one or two pigeons…...No, a dozen of them flies in a flock. What on earth? Are you giving urgent instructions? The draw of the flock of pigeons strengthens without fail, as it faces in the direction where it is.
The Choi Young was so anxious that he spoke even more, drenched in sweat as he crossed the darkening yard and headed towards the gate thinking, "You will have to find the fastest boat."
He reflexively puts one hand on his sword, as he senses the people waiting outside the fence for him, as there are so many of them that they cannot be counted and there seems to be more coming from all directions.
Choi Young opens the gate with a creak, and the woman in red Hwa soo-in appears making sure only he is aware of her appearance.
Changhani walks towards the Choi Young who smiles brightly at his appearance, the other man asks him, "Where are you going?"
At that moment, unexpectedly Choi Young takes a step backwards, as he narrowly avoids a jar that has been thrown and smashes to the ground.
Unfortunately, it is not the only one as it is followed by many other jars as they break on the ground as they land here and there, to spill the yellow liquid they hold as it splashes and flows in all directions and the smell that it emanates from it smells…....
Choi Young recognises the smell it is Oil. He then looks at where the jars of oil have hit to see how the oil has sprayed everywhere onto the cypress hedges and the walls and roofs of thatched houses.
Hwa soo-in then raises a right hand to look mischeviously at the pair of them and makes sure Choi Young sees the fireball appearing in her right hand.
Choi Young reacts and runs inside without thinking, to quickly get Eun-soo and Gyeongchang who were startled by the sound of a jars breaking outside to suddenly see the captain re-enter in a hurry.
Eun-soo knows without being told as Choi Young crouches down to present Gyeongchang-gun with his back to then say,"I can't hold you. I can't help you with my arms and legs. You have to hang on to me."
Gyeongchang is confused, "What's going on? Why are you doing this, Young-ah?" There is no time to answer Gyeongchang-gun's frightened questions, as Choi Young then looks at Eun-soo to say, "Can you follow close behind me?"
Suddenly there is a loud sound of something breaking outside, which makes her flinch in surprise as she keeps her gaze on Choi Young who then says, "From now on, I will run in a straight line to the gate. What happens? Don't stop, don't fall behind, and follow me. Are you ready, to run."
Eun-soo nods her head, which is all he needs as he prepares to do what he says by pulling out his sword to then kick the door open.
The yard is only lit by the moon as night has fallen and with it the assassins dressed in black to camouflage their presence can be seen as they climb over the wall, to enter the yard.
Hwa soo-in was caught off guard by Choi Young's sudden appearance where he was jumping out from inside, which initiated the assassins to respond to come from all directions to attack.
She had planned to use her fire to initiate the attack first, but why are the others blocking her way? Her thoughts are broken by the sight of Choi Young who moves forward, mercilessly cutting down those in front of him.
Eun-soo walks so close that she is only half a step behind Choi Young, with one hand on Gyeongchang back, who was being carried by Choi Young, who was determined to do whatever it takes to leave.
He is trying to get to the gate that encloses the thatched hut, but the number of people blocking his way are formidable, who make him stop in the middle of the yard and start to surround the group from behind.
Choi Young-eun reacts suddenly to throw a dagger at the back of the neck of the guy who was attacking Eun-soo and then stab his sword deeply into the chest of the person blocking his way.
Choi Young channeled his true energy into that sword that increased its energy to pierce its target and also the guy behind it.
He then kicked the guys he had embedded his sword, to forcefully pul the sword out, and swung it again, in fluid motions.
He moves towards the gate where the sight of Hwa soo-in makes him feel uneasy as she stands in its entry blocking their exit.
Choi Young had no intention of attacking the girl but became wary as she stood there smiling in such away that he was starting to recognise as something that she does before she launches her attack.
Suddenly, as predicted a fireball shoots out from Hwa soo-in's hand, to then hit the thatched roof, where it breaks into flames on impact, fuelled by the oil that has be spray on it when the jars of it were broken earlier.
It was this fire that was the signal for the group of assassins to launch into their attack in unison.
Figures jumped over the fence, while others emerged from where they were hidden, to fill the initially empty yard, the gate is open and is now empty of the woman in red that had been standing there.
Choi Young hesitates for a moment before the gate, as he carries on his back the person who is considered a sinner of the country and has been held in custody.
The hesitation is due to the few fires he has noticed that are outside the fence and the figures that wait to stop them with arrows.
The energy of the fire catches in an instant where the oil had landed here and there in the yard. Choi Young kicks down the front door to try and leave.
Eun soo tried not to scream and not to collapse, while she followed behind him wonder who uses a sword and how?
It is really hard to see the sword being wielded, apart from the blood that sprays as it is splatters from the front and sides.
The blood that splattered indiscriminately got some on her face, on her lips and even left a metallic stinging taste in her mouth.
Eun-soo tries not to panic as the men dressed in black came rushing towards them. The sight makes her wonder if she is going to die if they keep doing this.
She tries not to think about dying and looks behind her, trying to stay close to Choi Young, like he had impressed upon her the importance of following him.
The uncertainty of her complying makes her want to ask him if she cannot follow him does that mean she is left behind and it makes her wonder does she really have to ask that.
Eun-soo tries not to worry about it too much as right now there is only one person in the world I can trust and follow, and that is him.
The moment Choi Young walks out the front door, she knew something was wrong, as the Government soldiers came rushing towards us, blocking the road ahead.
Meanwhile, the assassins who have been attacking him so far reposition themselves, like they were all joining him forces with him, while the government soldiers stood opposite them swords ready to be used.
It seemed like the assassins were in the same group as Choi Young, while they were all waiting for the others who block Choi Young steps to make their first move.
Choi Young wonders 'How it was strange. Was it Hwang?' Although he was suspicious, Choi Young stepped forward carrying Gyeongchang-gun on his back while he identifies himself to the leader of the Government soldiers, "I am Woodalchi Jungrangjang Choi Young. An assassin came and set fire. So, I had no choice but to attend Mama…"
He was abruptly interrupted by the head of the government army who shouted loudly, "Who dared to break the locked gate during Yulianchi?"
The question remained unanswered as an empty arrow came flying towards the government army, as the assassins who were standing as if they were on the same side as Choi Young were angry at the government soldiers started shooting the government soliders.
The head of the government army shouted, "Assassins! Protect Mama!"
One of the assassins shouted, took off his sword to go in to attack the government soldiers. In terms of numbers, the assassins were inferior to the government army.
Choi Young sword skills were so extraordinary that the government soldiers were pushed back all at once, when it started to happen.
Choi Young almost laughs at how absurd it is when he notices Hwa soo-in approaching softly, tauntingly, "What are you going to do? Do you want to become a traitor and get the government's attention? Or Do you want to come with us?"
Choi Young accepts her words, buys time, to look back to ask, "Does your master really like such troublesome pranks?".
He is looking at the entire roof of the thatched house is engulfed in flames, the tangerine tree and the fence is also engulfed in flames, with sparks blowing in the wind. In the yard beyond the fence, oil here and there had caught fire and fire pits are made.
The gate to which they turn their backs. The fire has also spread, and the air is full of black smoke which makes Prince Gyeongchang on his back breathes in smoke, which makes him cough a lot.
The effect this all has makes Hwa soo-in laugh in delight and urges,"Let's decide quickly. The longer we wait, the more innocent people die. Are you leaving?" Choi Young answers coldly with, "That's none of my business."
Anyway, it does not matter whether the people are from the government's side or the assassin's side. Choi Young wonders that they are probably moving according to the instructions of the Deokseong Buwongun Ki-Cheol.
Choi Young stretches out his hand and grabbed Eun-soo to pull her closer, who is mesmerized as she was watching the people fighting in front of me, when Choi Young pulls me her closer causing her to stumble and she tries to stay calm just a little longer.
Choi Young speaks softly to Eun-soo, who is standing close to him. "What I said a little while ago, do you remember?" Eun-soo looked at me to make eye contact with those wide eyes and nodded.
Choi Young's heart becomes lighter as his vitality returns, when a loud whistle pierces the air and the reinforcements from the government army rushed in, to join those that have already acted.
Now both sides are at their wit's end, Choi Young asks the Hwa soo-in, "What do you want?" Her answer is, "My brother-in-law wants you Choi Young."
She watches the impact her words have to canjole, "We will guarantee the people you protect their safety, only if you come willingly to our side. We will give you a warm welcome."
Choi Young laughed from the end of his mouth, "I do not trust your guarantee." The moment Hwa soo-in laughs out loud and was about to say something when Choi Young's sword draws a large arc cuts the Tangja tree which is on fire, to land in between them, which stops her from getting closer.
He then cut down the hedges, to lodge the burning lumps of the parts of the hedge toward Hwa soo-in, who, freaks out and throws her body out of the way to then try to gather heat in her hands, but cannot actually create a fireball.
She could not actually create a fireball, where a flammable substance was need for the heat in her hands is used as flint for the actual fire to be created.
So, Hwa soo-in herself is in this part of her body may be vulnerable to actual fire due to the flammable substances hidden there on the outside.
Hwa soo-in avoids the burning bundle launched by Choi Young, where she was backing away, Choi Young took off the two gates in an instant.
After launching the burning bundle at the woman in red and taking off, Eun-soo could not believe it.
Choi Young had checked with her to see if she remembered what he had said about staying close and she had nodded to say that she did, after all it was not something that you could forget.
Eun-soo did not realise that Choi Young-eun had meant that it involves jumping into a burning yard.
She knows that they are not on fire yet and is determined to survive the yard where fireballs are burning here and there as they are definitely stepping into a fire pit, which cannot be good.
Choi Young stands on top of the gate as he looked back at Eun-soo, making her wonder if he was checking that she was following his.
She looks to her side, wanting to step back, when she has met the eyes of a very familiar woman in red.
It was the X-Woman, who came to the city of war and started shooting fire, is back in the gate and she looks at the yard, which is currently in flames as it burns red, with the appearance of silver sparks and black smoke billowing with the wind.
At that time, Choi Young extended a hand towards Eun-soo to wordlessly indicate for her to hold it.
The sight makes her heart sink as she remembers how he had done that in her dream, he then smiles at her in encouragement which he also did in her dream.
Just before that, Eunsu entered the yard where the fire was blazing, Hwa soo-in, the fire fighter, runs up to Eun-soo, tries to snatch her collar, when Eun-soo grabs Choi Young's outstretched hand and he held it, to run, covering and blocking his eyes and nose with the surging flames, to run through the smoke to the backyard.
Choi Young-eun then runs to the well where he lifts the water bucket next to him with his foot and kicks it backwards.
The water jar breaks and as its contents poured out spread the burning oil wider and caused the flames to spread more violently, which blocks the assassins who tried to follow, but are forced to move back.
Choi Young swung his sword with the same momentum as he was running, causing a fire in the backyard.
A road was made by cutting down and removing the hedge of Tangja trees that were growing around the fence, to then be able to exit through the fence.
Choi Young then blows a whistle which can be heard, and his horse Jooheung was not afraid of the fire approaches them, clearly responding to his signal.
Choi Young held Gyeongchang who he has put on top of Joohong, while Eun-soo while was bending over sneezing hard.
Even though she was sneezing hard, she recognized the familiar colour of the horse and hung on to it.
Choi Young looked back at Eun-soo who despite her tangled red hair that flew everywhere and whose pretty face was covered with soot, her eyes that were looking at Choi Young were shining.
Choi Young tells Eun-soo that she is better than the flames that have run out so far, which makes her more afraid of what has to do, when lightning flashes across the dark sky and the sound of thunder rumbled from an unknown origin.
Big fat raindrops start to fall and Choi Young yells instructions, "Run straight in this direction as far as you can. It's raining, so it will make it more difficult for them to chase us. Go far away as possible and if you find a place to hide, hide there and wait."
Eun-soo asks in disbelief, "You want us to go alone? Why?" Choi Young answers, "I cannot fight properly if we're together."
Eun-soo understands what Choi Young is saying, the burning house in the background reflects how scared her eyes are.
The man blocks large a person who had come running to attack them after cutting his way through the flames without a moment's hesitation.
The person who was trying to break through is attempting an attack worried that we will escape is scared by Choi Young's defense.
ChoiYoung avoids Eun-soo's gaze, as he unfastened his shield from his horse's saddle, to puts it on his back to says, "I will come find you later."
Eun-soo feeling unsure about what is happening asks, "How?" Choi Young's answers with authority, "Wherever you are, I can come to you."
Choi Young grabs the stirrups of her horse to then wait for her to put her foot in in it. Eun-soo did not move, so he had no choice but to look back at her, to notice that she had tilted her head to him and has a desperate look in her eyes, who then nods and says, "Great."
Choi Young finds it hard to believe the response he got from her and waits fully expecting her to put her foot in the stirrups, when suddenly she wraps her arms around Choi Young's neck to hug him, which makes him stop breathing.
So, there she holds the large man in her and to make the situation worse for Choi Young she then whispers in his ear, "I will wait." The sensation is like a petal that blows in the wind, to land, and then fly away again.
Eun-soo then let go and proceeded to get on the horse alone, while Choi Young stood motionless and watched unable to move, watching as she wraps the reins like a seasoned horseman to sit ready.
Choi Young reaches Gyeongchang-gun to instruct, "Hold on to the saddle." Gyeongchang nods, looks back at Choi Young and smiles, which Eun-soo notices and smiles at the picture they make despite the reality of them running away from the burning house.
Footsteps were heard behind him, when Choi Young noticed Eun-soo watching them with a smile. Eun-soo then kicks Joohong, and Joohong starts running, it was only when he saw the scarlet disappearing into the darkness that Choi Young turned around, to see the assassins running led by Hwa soo-in.
Choi Young takes his sword out holding it in preparation to stop them from following the horse with Uniseon and Gyeongchang.
Lightning flashed again, thunder roared, as the rain suddenly fell thick and fast to pour down. Choi Young starts to walk through the rain, his pace increasing to run towards the enemies.
He buries the hope deep in his heart that has started to bloom like a young sprout in the small yard of that thatched house, that he has etched in his memory the picture of them laughing and waving at him.
The softness that blows towards me as they passed him carries with it the lucky wind, that carries the scent of her with it and the memory of her smile that makes him determined to live to protect his spirit.
The day she leaves he must be the one to send her off personally. The fierce determination to keep his promise makes him act instinctively channel his inner energy down his hand and into his sword.
The first attacker to block it is cut by Choi Young and the red blood that splashes out as a result turns the raindrops into a dark thick grey which it infiltrated from the inside and causes it to stay in the air for a while.
