Chapter 39

"I want to eat the big cake. William spotted me and allowed me to go outside. I was so happy, I called her sister. When her friends asked who I was, she said..." Sara mulled over it. "She told them I was a servant's daughter."

"I was disappointed. I was crying when I asked Yen why would my sister treat me that way. He told me that I was an illegitimate daughter, therefore I was just a servant. It really upset me to hear my biological father saying that. I cried for a long time. For the first time, I lost my temper and flung a glass onto the floor." Sara looked up at the starry sky as she mumbled, "Master Bishop, they treated me badly, so I don't want to be good to them anymore. The world is simple. You are a good person. If someone doesn't understand you, it isn't your fault."

Hank was smiling. This little girl had made so much effort just to comfort him about his strained relationship with Madam Bishop.

His cold and cruel heart melted a little.
