CHAPTER ELEVEN

"And, here it is! The glorious lab that I've been meaning to visit for a while now. How did you sneak in, Shadow?" I asked, looking up at the imposing grey concrete box. It wouldn't have been half as terrifying if I was the size of a human, but currently, even I was having a hard time not running away screaming. Shadow, however, was putting on a brave face, even if it was merely for my sake. Shadow nodded at a window. "They called 'windows'." He told me. "There seems to be something wrong with this one, though," Shadow said, and I, not listening, climbed onto a crater, then a cardboard box, and then clawed my way up to the windowsill and grabbed the latch with one tooth, twisting it open. The window swung in, and I peered down into the perilously dark room. "Let's go, Shadow! Broken or not, no window is going to stop us!" I said, bravely leaping in. Shadow followed in hot pursuit, jumping in a minute later.

I was instantly smacked in the face with the smell of hand sanitizer - like a doctor's office or clinic, but there was also a smell of rot. As happy as I was to have night vision, this was one of the occasions where I was unlucky to have it.

Because all the cats were about to die.
